Tommy Fury beats MMA star Anthony Taylor on points on Jake Paul’s undercard to set up future fight with YouTuber

TOMMY FURY kept on course to fighting Jake Paul by beating the YouTuber’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor. Fury convincingly outboxed and outmanned Taylor on the undercard of Paul’s fight with ex-UFC champion Tyron Woodley.

The 2019 Love Island star won all four rounds largely at range and behind his jab, unitising the massive size difference.
It put Fury to 7-0 in his career and announced himself to the US market for the first time.
And afterwards he called on Paul, 24, to get the job done against Woodley, to make sure their all-celebrity blockbuster is a go.
Fury, 22, said: “Jake Paul should have an easy night on that night, so He’s got no excuse for not taking the fight.
“Let’s get it on Jake Paul. I’ve done my bit, you do your bit.”
Paul has spent his last two training camps sparring Taylor, a veteran of Bellator with a 7-5 MMA record.

And he put his training partner up against Fury in a bid to give his online rival some exposure to the Stateside audience.
Taylor was almost a stone outweighed in comparisons to their respected weight classes, and gave away four inches in height.
And it was evident from the first round as Fury boxed behind a smart jab and completely controlled the distance.
Taylor, 32, struggled to get on the inside and often looked off balance and out of ideas, despite winging in some haymakers right hands.
Already Fury was starting to time his American opponent coming in, specifically with a right uppercut, which looked to have made a mark.
Heading into the second round and again it was the rear uppercut which appeared to have the most affect.
Fury was starting to pile on the pressure but Taylor tucked up and at times tried to hold on and avoid a knockdown.
There’s no excuses, no running, no hiding. I want you next, you bum. Let’s get it on. Tommy Fury to Jake Paul
By the third round, Taylor was on the back foot and trying to avoid Fury’s right hand but was unable to deal with the feints and jabs coming his way.
Fury looked to have his man hurt on occasions in the final round but was left with too little time to finish with a showstopping knockout.
Still, all four judges scored the fight unanimously in his favour as Fury walked away from Paul’s home of Cleveland with a win.
The social media sensation headlined the night in his fourth and toughest fight against Woodley.
Fury said: “Looking at that, Jake Paul, you should have an easy night mate, shouldn’t you? There’s no excuses now.
“You’ve seen everybody, I’ve had the biggest cheer in the place.
“There’s no excuses, no running, no hiding. I want you next, you bum. Let’s get it on.”

The YouTuber dressed in brown and orange at the open workout in the week as he continued to represent his home city.
Paul comes into the fight with three wins in as many fights, all by knockout.
But so far he has faced only  online rival ‘AnEsonGib’, ex-NBA star Nate Robinson, 37, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 37.
His return against Woodley will provide the biggest challenge in Paul’s boxing career to date.

Nevertheless, the social media sensation has predicted a sensational first-round KO.
Paul told Sky Sports: “Honestly after this camp, I said three [rounds] and now I’m thinking, max two.
“But to be honest, something in my heart tells me that it’s going to be another one round fight.

The lack of testing stunned fighters and fans alike, with many wondering why they wouldn’t be administered.
And according to ESPN, the Ohio State Athletic Commission wasn’t going to test the combatants due to an ‘issue with the number of test kits available.’
ESPN reporter Mike Coppinger tweeted: “Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley will be tested for PEDs by the Ohio commission following the fight tonight.
“Initially, there was an issue with the number of test kits available. That’s been rectified.
“@MikeBohnMMA reported there wouldn’t be testing, which was correct at the time.”
Paul’s clash with former UFC welterweight champion Woodley will mark his fourth professional boxing match, the last of which came against his upcoming opponent’s good friend Ben Askren.

And The Problem Child has vowed to add the MMA great to his victim list in devastating fashion, telling Sky Sports: “I’m just built different.
“I have something inside of me that I think is just a natural-born fighter, with natural power.
“You can teach a lot of things, but you can’t teach speed and you can’t teach power.
“I think that’s why my fights have ended so early.
“When those 10oz Grant gloves come on, I just grip them back, and the knuckles are at the front of the gloves.
“There’s no way these people’s heads can deal with this damage.”

    PAUL’S LAST OUTING
Jake Paul made light work of Tyron Woodley’s good friend Tyron Woodley in his last outing in April, blasting him with a big straight right hand in the first round.
Relive out the viral KO below

    CARD IN FULL
In case you don’t know, there are actually a few decent scraps on this morning’s Paul vs Woodley card
British heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois will be in action against Joe Cusamano.
And former IBF light-welterweight champion Ivan Barancyhk will lock horns with Montana Love.
And Love Island star Tommy Fury – the half-brother of Gypsy King Tyson – will also be in action.

    BIG NIGHT ON THE CARDS
Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza has revealed Paul vs Woodley is currently on course to do ‘slightly below’ the numbers for Floyd Mayweather’s clash with Logan Paul.
He told MMA Junkie: “I think we’ll be pretty close to 15,000 in the arena. That’s probably a few tickets short of a sell-out. Less than 500 tickets, maybe closer at the time.
“The pre-buys are bigger than just about anything we’ve done lately short of Mayweather Paul.
“So it’s tracking within line with, but slightly below, Mayweather-Paul. Now look, I’m not saying it’s gonna hit a million buys. Because you have to take tracking with a large grain of salt.
“It’s a few thousands buys and trying to predict, five, six or seven hundred thousand. But the indicators are very good.”

    TALE OF THE TAPE
In case you’re unfamiliar with the pair’s respective boxing records, here is the tale of the tape for Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley.
Although Woodley has 0 professional boxing matches to his name, he does have a wealth of cage time to his name having had 27 pro MMA fights.
How Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley compare ahead of their boxing match
BETTING SPECIAL GET PAUL AT 7/1 OR WOODLEY AT 14/1
    TESTING, TESTING 1-2-3
The Ohio State Athletic Commission WILL be drug testing Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley after their fight.
On Saturday, it emerged that the pair wouldn’t be subject to pre and post-fight testing.
The pair will, however, now have to submit samples to the commission after the showdown.
Source: @jakepaul and @TWooodley will be tested for PEDs by the Ohio commission following the fight tonight. Initially, there was an issue with the number of test kits available. ‘PRESSURE’
Former UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley hasn’t tasted victory since submitting Darren Till in September 2018.
And former middleweight champion Michael Bisping reckons, The Chosen One – who has lost his last four on the bounce – is under a world of pressure.
‘The Count’ told SunSport: “He does look motivated. But I think that’s because he’s feeling the pressure.
“Of course, he had a great career as champion and in the UFC he was a phenomenal fighter.
“I would assume he’ll be in the Hall-of-Fame one day, but he’s lost his last four.
“I did see some interviews a while ago. He fell into the trap that a lot of fighters do, a lot of athletes do, with overspending money and things like that.
“I’m not sure of his financial situation, I’m sure he’s OK. But this is all he knows.
“And he’s probably training like a madman because he’s feeling the pressure.

    FINAL TROLLING
Jake Paul somewhat bizarrely kept making reference to Tyron Woodley’s backside during one of his final pre-fight interviews.
And he did so again not long after Saturday’s ceremonial weigh-ins.

    SNEAK PEEK
Take an inside look at the 20,000 capacity Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, which will be full to the brim when Paul and Woodley make their respective walks to the ring in a few hours’ time.

    INFLUENCER VS MMA
Good evening, folks. I’m Chisanga Malata and I’ll be keeping you up to date with all the ongoings from the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio – the venue for Jake Paul’s clash with former UFC Tyron Woodley.
Not long now until we find out if Paul can actually hang with elite combatants.
And I have to admit, I’m quite excited to see if he can.

    RUNNING ORDER 📋
Here’s how the night will pan out from bottom to top, with the first fight getting underway at 12.30am UK time on BT Sport Box Office.

    PAUL ON MASIVDAL
Here’s what Jake Paul thinks about Jorge Masvidal’s assertion that Tyron Woodley should beat him easily.
“I wasn’t surprised by Masvidal,” Paul said.
“He has the same manager as [Tyron Woodley] and the guy is kind of an airhead, let’s be honest, Masvidal is not smart.
“Does anybody here listen to a Jorge Masvidal interview and go ‘wow, this guy is an intellectual and he’s a smart guy. The way he talks, he’s very well spoken’ – I don’t think anybody says that.
“He’s like a street fighter gangster who got knocked the f*** out in his last fight. So maybe he’s losing a couple of brain cells.
“If I’m your friend, I’m your friend. If he wants to switch up, hoes will be hoes.”

    DRUG-TESTING?
Apparently not on fight night anyway, despite Jake Paul’s claims there would be.
The Ohio State Athletic Commission head tells me Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley will NOT be subjected to fight night drug tests.Only athletes to be tested on the card are those competing in title bouts. #PaulWoodley— Mike Bohn (@MikeBohnMMA) August 28, 2021

    WHITE RESPONDS
Dana White has responded to a call-out for a fight from Jake Paul.
“It actually makes sense,” White said.
“I’m 52-years-old. I’m in the age bracket of guys he fights, so yeah, I could see him wanting to fight me. It’s all he fights are 50-year-olds.
“Let me tell you what, get in line. There are plenty of people who would like to assault me.
“Get in line. It’s a long f***ing line, buddy. You’re going to be waiting for a while.
“No, it doesn’t bother me. This is the business we’re in. I say it all the time about the fighters, too.
“We are not in the nice guy business. This is a very mean business. I say many mean things about people, too. It’s just part of this game. It’s all good.”
    SOME DIFFERENCE!
Fair to say Jake Paul is up against someone with a much stricter diet in Tyron Woodley tonight…

“I’ve been boxing since I was 18 but fell in love with MMA at 26. I don’t have amateur experience but I have sparred many pro boxers.

    BIG DOGS
Here’s how Dubois and Cusumano looked weighing in yesterday in Cleveland.

    AMERICAN DEBUT
Elsewhere on tonight’s card, Daniel Dubois is in action on his debut in the USA under new trainer Shane McGuigan.
The Brit heavyweight, who lost to Joe Joyce last year, has since rebounded with a win over Bogdan Dinu.

    TALE OF THE TAPE
Here’s how the two fighters are looking ahead of their clash later..

    GOOD EVENING!
Hello and welcome, everyone, to this evening’s live coverage of Tommy Fury vs Anthony Taylor!
He might be on the undercard of a Jake Paul fight, but he’s still a big deal, so you can have our extensive coverage of his fight tonight, on us!
The younger, handsome half-brother of heavyweight world champ Tyson is back in business this evening as he takes on MMA star Taylor.
Taylor has been sparring Paul in preparation for the Problem Child’s huge clash with Tyron Woodley tonight.
One wouldn’t be wrong to assume that a Fury win beautifully sets up a future fight with Paul, assuming he doesn’t lose to Woodley.
But Fury has insisted this week his mind isn’t on Jake Paul, it’s solely on Taylor.
We’ll see about that one soon.
We can expect Fury to be in the ring around 1.15am, so just a few hours to go.
Until then, kick back and feast on our coverage of tonight’s huge event.

The Chosen One got some work in with Floyd Mayweather ahead of his clash with the Youtuber
Although he didn’t have a prolonged period of time training under the former five-weight world champion, Woodley took plenty away from the former pound-for-pound king.
The 39-year-old said of his training with Money: “The times I worked with Floyd [Mayweather], he was very vocal.
“You couldn’t do nothing wrong. And that’s what makes him so great.
“In MMA we over-do it a lot, but it doesn’t always transition into power.
“It doesn’t always transition into accuracy.
“He gave me the foundation of how he beat everyone he did.”

BETTING SPECIAL GET PAUL AT 7/1 OR WOODLEY AT 14/1
Training with boxing royalty has heaped extra pressure on the battle-tested Woodley, who has had over ten times as many fights as his latest opponent.
And Paul believes the Missouri mauler can have no excuse for coming up short in his professional boxing debut.
The former Disney star said: “Tyron said he’s training like he’s fighting Mike Tyson.
“Mayweather is training him and you can tell he’s in shape. He’s got the six-pack back. He’s looking good. He’s not messing around.
“This is his biggest fight ever and the whole MMA community is counting on him to represent them and to get the ‘W’.
“Unfortunately, that’s not going to happen.
“And when I beat him, there will be no excuses because he was being trained by Mayweather.
He gave me the foundation of how he beat everyone he didTyron Woodley on his training with Floyd Mayweather
“Because Jorge Masvidal said he was going to knock me out. Because he took this camp and had a 14-week camp. He has no excuses.
“I love boxing. I fell in love with it. There’s something about knocking someone out and cracking someone in the face.
“My whole life has been a fight. I never got anything handed to me so I feel like I’m at home.
“I feel like I was put on this earth to fight. And I like challenges. I’m driven by challenges.”
Despite not having tasted victory in over three years, Woodley is confident of having his hand raised in Paul’s hometown.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour, he said: “I’m here to f***ing takeover.
“You’re gonna see Jake Paul get hurt in a way you’d never imagine.

“This was my lifestyle before it became a sport, before it became a career.

Woodley, 39, will bid to avenge his good friend and University of Missouri wrestling team-mate Ben Askren’s stunning loss to the former Disney star in April.
Three-time Bellator 155lb champ Chandler was also a team-mate of Askren and Woodley and is willing to throw down with The Problem Child should he go 2-0 against his fellow Mizzou alumni.
He told TMZ: “If Tyron does somehow lose, I guess there’s only 1 guy they can call and it’s the third Mizzou wrestler!”
But Chandler, who is gearing up for a showdown with fellow fan favourite Justin Gaethje, doesn’t foresee The Chosen One losing to the younger Paul brother.
He said: “I believe Tyron wins the fight. I believe Tyron takes Jake Paul to a place where he’s never been before.
“Where he’s never been in his past amateur-level sports accomplishments.

“Tyron Woodley is one of the best fighters in the world. Multiple time world champion.”
Despite losing his last four MMA fights on the bounce, Missouri mauler Woodley is confident of derailing the Paul hype train in spectacular fashion.
During an appearance on The MMA Hour, he said: “I’m here to f***ing takeover.
“You’re gonna see Jake Paul get hurt in a way you’d never imagine.

“He may not want to do this again after this.
“This was my lifestyle before it became a sport, before it became a career.
“This was a bucket list thing he wanted to try, his following allowed him to do so.
“But this is in my DNA, it’s all I’ve been doing since I was a kid.”
