Deontay Wilder helped by George Foreman after Tyson Fury loss who ‘knew how he felt after Ali’ humbling

DEONTAY WILDER found a shoulder to cry on in George Foreman after his defeat at the hands of Tyson Fury. The Bronze Bomber, 35, was comprehensively beaten in his rematch with the British star after their first fight was controversially deemed a draw.
Fury battered Wilder in their rematch with a third fight set for October 9

And Foreman was a shoulder to cry on for Wilder, with the 72-year-old boxing legend able to relate thanks to his shock defeat against Muhammad Ali in 1974 classic “The Rumble in the Jungle”.
The American Hall of Famer was 40-0 when he headed to Zaire for the eagerly-anticipated fight, but was humbled by Ali in one of the sport’s most-famous encounters.
In 2019, Foreman told SunSport he still has “nightmares” about the defeat which left him utterly “devastated”.
Wilder had a similar record too, sitting at 42-0-1 – with his only blemish the draw with Fury, 32, in December 2018.
    “ONLY I UNDERSTAND”
During a grilling from TMZ, Foreman revealed: “I had a nice conversation with Wilder, nice conversation with him.
“We talked because I was in a position where I lost unexpectedly with the title in Africa.
“Only I know what he’s going through.
“He’s gonna have to live with [the Fury loss] but I can show him how to live with that and come back better. We talked a lot on those lines.”
Wilder quickly activated his rematch clause to ensure he would have another crack at Fury – with many pundits believing it to be a mistake.
Despite the criticism, Foreman is adamant Wilder can not only beat Fury in the third and final fight of their trilogy, but do it easily.

The boxing legend-turned-grill-flogger added: [He can] Not only beat him, [he] can do it easily.
“Give him another chance. He’ll show you.”
Mike Tyson also lent his advice to Wilder too, urging him to rediscover his “zest and confidence”.
The pair will fight again in their trilogy bout on October 9.

Frank Bruno reveals he was sectioned under Mental Health Act during coronavirus lockdown

FRANK Bruno today reveals he was sectioned under the Mental Health Act during lockdown and admits: “I hit rock bottom.”The ex-world heavyweight boxing champ, 60 next month, was taken to hospital by police and kept there for six weeks after family and friends grew fearful for his safety.

The heavyweight athlete, 60, admits ‘I hit rock bottom’ as he was taken to hospital ‘for my own safety and for the safety of others’, pictured is his heroic ’96 Tyson fightCredit: Getty
Mental health campaigner Frank, who has bipolar disorder, said the loss of friends to Covid combined with lockdown led to him suffering another breakdown.
And, shockingly, we can reveal a mental health worker who looked after Frank after his release is being investigated for allegedly calling the star by mobile while on a night out with pals in a pub.
Among the incidents which prompted friends to act and get him sectioned were:

    EXCESSIVE fitness training daily at home in an attempt to keep his demons at bay;
    TRYING to arrange a boxing comeback, and;
CONCERN that he wanted to pay £60,000 for a car worth less than £20,000.

Londoner Frank, famed for his two brave battles with fearsome US rival “Iron” Mike Tyson in 1989 and 1996, said: “It has been the hardest and most terrifying time of my life. I hit rock bottom and suffered a breakdown.

‘Face up to the fact my illness had returned’
“For my own safety and for the safety of others, I was sectioned and taken back into hospital. I had to face up to the fact my illness had returned after years of keeping a lid on it. I had to fight for my sanity and there were times I feared I wouldn’t get through it.
“Being locked up against your will is the worst thing you can ever imagine. It’s ten times scarier than boxing. Being in a hospital for weeks during the pandemic only made it all the more terrifying. But, thankfully, not least due to the support and love of family and friends, I was able to pull myself away from the cliff-edge. I’m still standing.”
Frank’s nightmare began when lockdown was first introduced. He explained: “All the routine and structure in my world vanished. Work started to be cancelled.
“Gyms closed. And the health spa near my house, which is like a second home, shut too. I quickly felt like a bit of a prisoner in my own home and my illness started to take hold again.
“Then, when I started to lose friends to Covid, it was like a perfect storm was crashing around above my head.”
A series of incidents left his friends, family and managers concerned about Frank’s safety. These included excessive training in the gym in his shed and weight loss — and, worryingly, trying to arrange boxing bouts.
Being locked up against your will is the worst thing you can ever imagine. It’s ten times scarier than boxing.Frank Bruno
The star retired in 1996 after being told he could lose the sight in one eye after his second defeat to Tyson. But he contacted promoter Frank Warren’s office. He also called his agent and asked for £60,000 to be transferred from his account to buy a car which was worth £20,000, sparking fears of an attempted rip-off.
Frank was eventually taken by police minibus, with two cops sat either side of him, to Luton and Central Bedfordshire Hospital mental health unit on June 28 last year. He had six weeks of intensive treatment and has since had care from community nurses.
Frank is also on medication to try to control his illness. The ex-ring favourite, who recently had a reunion with “Iron” Mike for a documentary and also posed with current Brit world heavyweight title holder Tyson Fury, said he is now close to being back to his best.
And he is to reveal all about his battle — and how he won it — in a new book called Frank Bruno: 60 Years A Fighter, out next month. But Frank has also told how he was recently shocked by a phone call from a care team member.
He said: “I got a call late one night from a number I didn’t recognise. When I answered it, I could hear singing and laughing in the background. It quickly became clear that one of the staff in charge of my aftercare was on his mobile down the pub and passing me round his mates.”
Last night a spokesman for Frank said the incident was subject to an NHS investigation. The health trust that employs the worker refused to comment.
YOU’RE NOT ALONEEVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.
It doesn’t discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society – from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.
It’s the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.
And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.
Yet it’s rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.
That is why The Sun launched the You’re Not Alone campaign.
The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.
Let’s all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others… You’re Not Alone.

Frank, who struggled after quitting boxing, was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1998 and was sectioned for the first time in 2003.

His charity The Frank Bruno Foundation is holding a fund-raising ball in November in a bid to help others.
Frank said: “I want to say it’s OK to admit you need some help. Right now, I’m doing well, but I know I can never get ahead of myself or take things for granted. My illness will be with me for life and the challenge is learning how to live with it better.”

“I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Fighters, bro, modern-day gladiators. There is no more dangerous athlete.
“When the fighter walks in the room, everyone feels it. He’s got a presence. And it’s cool, I love it.

The winner is likely to fight Oleksandr Usyk, who beat Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision in their heavyweight clash to secure the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
Any match-up between Joshua and Fury now seems remote after AJ’s defeat, but Eddie Hearn promises the pair will go for a rematch.

    How the fighters compare

    Who is on the undercard?
The event, cross-promoted by Top Rank and Premier Boxing Champions, will see a host of heavy-hitters featuring on the undercard.
That includes the battle of unbeaten heavyweights in Cuba’s Frank Sanchez meeting Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba.
Sanchez, a training partner of Canelo Alvarez who is promoted by Top Rank, will put his 18-0 record against PBC’s Ajagba, who stands 15-0.
Robert Helenius will also rematch Adam Kownacki on the bill.
Polish prospect Kownacki, 32, was defeated for the first time and stunned by veteran Helenius, 37, in March 2020.
American star Jared Anderson will return, with an opponent yet to be confirmed.
Anderson, 21, is 9-0 and was credited as a huge part in Fury’s win against Wilder last year.
He provided the Gypsy King with expert sparring Stateside, winning the praise of the WBC champion.
    What have they said?
Fury has recently been talking about how referee Kenny Bayless saved Deontay Wilder’s life in their second clash, despite the Bronze Bomber’s claims the fight was stopped prematurely.
Fury said: “The final stoppage one was where I was catching him clean, I believe the referee actually saved his life that night and saved his career.
“It was just like ‘I told you so’, and I am back where I belong and that’s it. There was no big miracle shock, it was like I was back where I was supposed to be at the top of the game, rated number one and back beating guys I wasn’t supposed to be beating.
“Physically and emotionally I have managed to push myself and come back from places I didn’t know if I could, but it was a tough ride and I have enjoyed every minute of it.”
Wilder, on the other hand, is more confident than ever he will have his hand raised in their massive trilogy.
“I just want to beat his ass. It’s as simple as that. I just want to beat his ass,” he said.
“I want it back in blood. That’s up to me. Come October 9, I will get my revenge. An eye for an eye, that’s what I’m looking forward to.”
Where is Fury vs Wilder 3 taking place?
Fury vs Wilder 3 will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, making it the third different venue in pair’s three fights.
Fury vs Wilder 1 took place at Staples Center in Los Angeles back in December 2018.
The T-Mobile Arena will play host to Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder III
And while their second happened in Las Vegas, the MGM Grand Garden Arena was the venue.
But now the T-Mobile Arena, which has hosted huge fights such as Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor, Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin and numerous big UFC events, will play host for their third clash.
    Who is training Tyson Fury?
Tyson Fury will be trained, once again, by SugarHill Steward, who took his corner for the second Wilder fight.
Fury used to be trained by Ben Davison, who was in charge for the very first Wilder bout, but was replaced by Steward a year later.
Steward instantly implemented his ‘Kronk style’ of training, one in which where boxers who fight out of the Kronk Gym in Detroit, Michigan, seek to put pressure on their opponents to force a knockout.
The style of fighting was first introduced by legendary trainer Emanuel Steward, SugarHill’s late uncle.
Fury predicted that with SugarHill in his corner, he would bring the fight to Wilder and take him out during their second fight, a prediction not many believed in.
But the Gypsy King did just that, stopping Wilder in seven rounds. And now, with 18 months more Kronk training under his belt, Fury will be looking for the same result on October 9.
    Who is training Deontay Wilder?
Wilder has brought in a new head trainer in Malik Scott, who the Bronze Bomber fought and knocked out back in 2014.
Scott and Wilder have worked all summer in attempt to sharpen the latter’s boxing skills, quickening both his feet and hands in preparation for Fury.
Wilder will still have ex-head trainer Jay Deas in his corner, but Scott will take charge on fight night.

The Alabama native used to have former world champion Mark Breland in his corner, but he was sacked after Wilder accused him of spiking his water before the second Fury fight.
It was also Breland who threw the towel in, forcing the referee to stop the fight midway through the seventh round. More
