Anthony Joshua training with Mike Tyson’s former coach for Usyk rematch in big hint he could split from Rob McCracken

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been training with Mike Tyson’s former coach ahead of his rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. And it is the biggest hint yet that the Brit could have a new trainer instead of Rob McCracken next time he faces the Ukrainian.

AJ has been in the USA since he lost his heavyweight world titles to Usyk in Tottenham last month and has been spotted in a number of different gyms.
A number of questions have been asked of Joshua’s training team, led by McCracken, since he was outclassed by Usyk and speculation has been mounting that the coach and boxer could split.
The star has already posted Snapchats of him visiting his mentee Joshua Buatsi in Virgil Hunter’s gym in Hayward, California.
And a further clip emerged showing Joshua hanging out with Canelo Alvarez in Eddy Reynoso’s gym in San Diego, California over the weekend.
The veteran trainer has previously worked with the likes of Iron Mike and Evander Holyfield and he says that he has been training with the Englishman to see if they ‘mesh’ ahead of a permanent appointment for the Usyk rematch.
Shields told ThaBoxingVoice: “They reached out to me and they asked if I would be interested in taking a look at AJ and that he wanted to come down to Texas and see if things would work out between him and I.

“I said: ‘No problem, I would love to see if we had a connection together’.
“He said: ‘European boxing is different from boxing in the US.’ He realised he had to come to the US to get something different… I guess he didn’t feel it was the right [game plan vs Usyk] so he wanted to make a change.
“He told me: ‘Listen, I know people don’t think I’m a dog. I’m gonna be a dog in this next fight.’
“And that’s his words. He told me: ‘I just need you to show me how to be the best dog you can teach me to be.’”
Joshua officially invoked his right to an immediate rematch, Eddie Hearn confirmed, with a target date of March or April.
And the promoter did not rule out new faces in the training team in order to become the first to figure out the Usyk puzzle, who is unbeaten in 19 fights.
Hearn told Boxing Social: “I think what AJ will wanna do is analyse why he performed like that.
“Yeah, the tactics weren’t right, he underperformed, but why?

“It’s difficult just to say, ‘He didn’t get the tactics right and he underperformed,’ because let’s talk about the brilliance of Usyk as well.
“But AJ will always look at his preparation and see how he can improve.
“If that’s changing things up, looking at bringing people in, or whatever he’s got to do, he will do that.”
Shields was asked about McCracken working with AJ ahead of the rematch, and he said the former champ would only be looking to take one of his current coaches with him moving forwards – Angel Fernandez.
He added: “I spoke to him about some other guy that came with him.
“He explained to me that he really wants this guy there, I told him it’s no problem with me.
“Angel. He told me he wanted Angel to be with him and I told him, ‘Yeah, it’s no problem.’”

Tyson Fury snubs Anthony Joshua, Oleksandr Usyk and Dillian Whyte and says that Joe Joyce is ‘the best one out there’

TYSON FURY has picked Joe Joyce as ‘the best one out there’ to challenge him for his throne in a surprise snub to his other heavyweight rivals. Fury right now is the top dog in the division, having knocked out Deontay Wilder.

And if Dillian Whyte beats Otto Wallin on October 30, he will be the next in line for the Gypsy King’s WBC title.
Fighting for the undisputed crown is also in Fury’s sights before the end of 2022, but he has to first wait for Anthony Joshua to rematch Oleksandr Usyk.
Despite all the usual suspects lurking underneath him, the unbeaten champion believes British contender Joyce is the best of the bunch.
His promoter Frank Warren told Sky Sports: “I was talking to Tyson about him. Tyson said that he’s the best one out there.
“That’s what Tyson’s opinion was. Can he go all the way? Yes he can. He’s got a good ticker, a big heart.
“He’s strong, he walks forwards, he is the ‘Juggernaut’. Whoever he’s in there with, you know they will have a problem getting rid of him.
“He’s a tough guy. He can fight a bit. He can punch.”

Joyce, 35, looked in line to fight Usyk, 34, for the WBO ‘interim’ title while Joshua, 32, was in talks to fight Fury, 33, in the summer.
But instead Wilder, 35, won an arbitration case which meant he forced through his contracted trilogy bout with the Gypsy King.
He later lost it after 11 thrilling rounds, just weeks after Usyk dethroned AJ of the unified titles at Tottenham’s stadium.
The heavyweight saga meant Joyce, who sparred Fury in 2018, was frozen out, but did get placed as the WBO’s next mandatory challenger.
He returned in July with a win over veteran Carlos Takam, 40, and will now wait patiently in the heavyweight queue.
But his promoter fancies Joyce’s chances against Usyk, who he lost to in the amateur World Series of Boxing tournament in 2013.

Warren said: “Him and Usyk would be a great fight. He could hurt Usyk, he’s a big man.
“Could he beat Usyk? Yes. He fancies it and I fancy it. He isn’t going to back off Usyk. He’d let his shots go.
“It won’t be the little man out-jabbing the big man – that will not be happening.”

Anthony Joshua could be forced to vacate world title if he beats Oleksandr Usyk in rematch and fights Tyson Fury

ANTHONY JOSHUA could be forced to vacate one of the world title belts if he beats Oleksandr Usyk. The Watford boxer suffered his second defeat as a pro when he easily lost on points to the Ukrainian in September.

The pair have agreed the rematch, with the finer points of where and when still to be thrashed out.
If AJ somehow manages to find a way to beat Usyk, it could bring back the dream Tyson Fury clash.
But that might not be for ‘all the belts’.
The WBA could push for their mandatory man, Robert Helenius, to get his shot at the title.
That could mean AJ gives up that belt to sign the multi-million pound fight against fellow Brit Fury.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Helenius’ manager Markus Sundman explained: “Right now we are focused on the WBA mandatory position.

JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET A FREE £10 BONUS WITH 100s OF GAMES TO PLAY AND NO DEPOSIT REQUIRED (Ts&Cs apply)
“Robert fought a WBA elimination bout in March 2020 against Adam Kownacki, and he placed a stamp on that victory in the rematch on October 9.
“Usyk should really be Robert’s next bout.
“We will do what is necessary to assure Robert’s rightful position as Usyk’s next WBA mandatory.
“In the end, of course we have respect for [president] Gilberto [Mendoza] and the WBA, and we think that ultimately they will do the correct thing and formally order Robert as the next mandatory.
“The WBA mandatory is due next, and that must be Robert.”

The WBA are likely to allow the Joshua-Usyk rematch to go ahead before pushing for Helenius to fight the winner.
Joshua, meanwhile, is enjoying some down time Stateside after his recent defeat.
The 32-year-old is touring some big-name gyms in the hope of adding more weapons to his arsenal.
And after training with Mike Tyson’s old coach Ronnie Shields, he has told the American to ‘turn him into a dog’ for the big rematch.

The next stop was celebrity hotspot Tape Nightclub.
But Paul, who last fought boxing legend Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition, made time to chat with a two women who were waiting for an Uber.
The Italian eatery is famous for its caviar served with blinis and sour cream.
But 100g would have set Paul, elder brother of Jake, and co back £250.
Starters range from £13 to £28, with a brilliant and varied choice of mains.
Veal kidney with risotto alla Milanese costs £32.50, but if you want to push the boat out the wagyu fillet of beef Rossini is £92.

Paul surprised many people by going the full eight rounds against Mayweather in Mimi in June.
And the 26-year-old has since claimed he would KO the unbeaten boxing legend if they went 12 rounds.
The elder Paul brother told the True Geordie, he said: “My conditioning is f***ing good, bro.
“If the fight went 10 or 12 rounds, I think I would knock him out. I say that in full conviction.”
The Maverick believes Mayweather was fatigued at the end of the final round.
He continued: “I saw him breathing heavy for the first time that eighth round and it was because I had been leaning on him.
“I’m 30 pounds heavier. Like no matter how you cut it, me leaning on a guy that size is gonna get him tired no matter how good he is.
“I was coming alive too. That’s what we trained for, we sparred for 12 rounds. I’m probably throwing 120 punches by the 12th round.
“My conditioning is good, I had a little ‘uhh’ in the fourth round then second wind came in.”
Paul is eager to return to the squared circle, saying last month: “I have to.”

The boxer could barely believe a fan wanted him to sign the kitchen appliance
After attending a press conference last Thursday at St James’ Park for his fight against Wanik Awdijan, he took a stroll through Newcastle.
But after stopping for a number of selfies and the odd autograph, one plucky lad ran up to him carrying the kitchen appliance and bizarrely requested the signature.
The Geordie man, in a black jacket and black cap, provided the Sharpie pen ready and deadpan said: “It’s the only thing I’ve got.”
Eubank Jr could not believe his eyes and initially said: “Nah, not the microwave!”
But then the Sussex scrapper handed over his bag, stayed cool as a cucumber and put pen to plastic.
The microwave has attracted a fair amount of interest since it hit the auction website.

The middleweight boxer shared the listing on Twitter, writing: “Been sent a link to an eBay auction thats selling the microwave I signed in Newcastle.
“No idea how much it’ll go for but to make this a more meaningful situation whatever the winning bid is I’ll match it & give the money to a charity of the winners choice.”
Eubank Jr battered Awdijan into submission at the weekend – the German-Armenian pulling the plug on their fight after just five one-sided rounds, claiming broken ribs.
Eubank Jr could hardly believe what he was being asked to do

Anthony Joshua tells Mike Tyson’s old coach Ronnie Shields to turn him into a DOG for Oleksandr Usyk rematch

ANTHONY JOSHUA has told potential new trainer Ronnie Shields to bring out the dog in him against Oleksandr Usyk. The 32-year-old Watford ace has left under-fire mentor Rob McCracken to go on a tour of some of America’s best gyms following the punishing September loss of his heavyweight world titles.

And the 2012 Olympic golden boy spent a couple of days studying the unanimous points loss with Mike Tyson’s former trainer, before doing some padwork with the 63-year-old.
And respected veteran Shields, who is currently guiding WBC middleweight champ Jermall Charlo, claims Joshua wants to tap into his inner beast to avenge his last toothless performance.
Shields told The Boxing Voice: “The first thing he told me when he came here, he told me, ‘listen, I know people don’t think that I’m a dog, I’m just a pure boxer, look, I’m gonna be a dog in this next fight’. And that’s his words.
“He told me, ‘I’m gonna be a dog in this fight, I just need you to show me how to be the best dog that you can teach me to be’.
“That answered the question for me because my thing to him was, ‘why did you box the whole time?’, and he said he thought he could out-box him, and that was the game plan.
“To me that was the wrong fight, now he knows that was the wrong fight. To teach a man to be a dog he has to have the dog instincts in him already.

“He says he has it in him, if things work out and I’m training him and once it comes down to it, now in the gym is the time to show it and in the fight you’ve got to show it too.
“It’s going to be hard work, we sat down and talked about everything and I think everything went great.”
McCracken’s work with Joshua has been rightly celebrated but he was forced to allow two more coaches into the corner after the June 2019 loss to Andy Ruiz Jr.
Angel Fernandez and Joby Clayton helped Josh regain his belts from the Mexican and knockout Kubrat Pulev in December.
But some of the tactics and cheerleading captured on camera, in between the late rounds Usyk comfortably banked, left fight fans baffled.
And Shields has revealed Joshua has already afforded him hours just to talk about the sweet science and he has been surprised by his lack of knowledge.
    ‘NEVER TAUGHT THAT’
He added: “In the last two days everything seemed to go well. The first day was just all talk, we talked for about three or four hours.
“We watched a few rounds of the Usyk fight together and I just pointed out some things that I thought he should’ve done that he didn’t do.
“‘We had a great talk yesterday, today was even greater. There’s something I showed him that he said, ‘man, I was never taught to do this’.
“It surprises me that a guy who was the heavyweight champion of the world doesn’t know certain things.”
Team AJ insist no decision has been made on the future of the backroom staff and Joshua is just on a busman’s holiday to the US soaking up knowledge from a range of gyms and trainers.
But Shields seems to already be formulating a plan for the Englishman to exact rematch revenge over Usyk, that could spell the end McCracken’s brilliant tenure.

FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN NEW CUSTOMER DEALS

The former featherweight said: “‘Obviously it wasn’t the right game plan, I told him he didn’t fight like himself. I think he’s a much better fighter than what he showed in that Usyk fight.
“I watched a few rounds with him and his team, I told him about certain things and he said, ‘yeah man, that’s what we should’ve done, but we didn’t do it’.
“When you have a game plan you have to work on it every day, you have to get it down pat before that fight and when you get in there you have to do things you did in the gym.
“I don’t know what their game plan was, obviously it wasn’t the right one and I guess he didn’t feel like it was the right one so this is why he wanted to make a change.”

Otto Wallin breaks silence on abandoned Dillian Whyte fight as promoter confirms plans to launch WBC petition

OTTO WALLIN and his team will push the WBC to reschedule the Dillian Whyte fight – with the hope of getting a rematch against WBC champ Tyson Fury. The Swedish boxer has been left devastated after Whyte picked up an injury in training and the WBC interim title fight on October 30 was called off.

That means Whyte is still the mandatory challenger for Fury’s iconic green belt that he successfully defended with an 11th-round KO of Deontay Wilder in their trilogy.
But Wallin’s promoter Dmitriy Salita wants the fight rescheduled as soon as possible – and will take his case to the WBC if necessary.
Wallin, 30, gave Fury some hairy moments when they fought in 2019. A huge cut opened up on Fury’s forehead that required 47 stitches.
But the Gypsy King managed to secure a unanimous points victory in a messy scrap.
Speaking about the Whyte fight cancellation, Salita told Sky Sports: It’s very disappointing.
“If it is an injury, then he should heal, and they should reschedule this event. That would be the fair thing to do.

“It would not be fair to the sport of boxing for Dillian Whyte to have an injury, whatever it is, and as a result of that, to be able to be mandated to fight Fury.
“Otto is ready to go to the UK today. He had a complete training camp and this fight guarantees a lot of attention and it was truly the right eliminator for the fight with Fury.
“The fight has to be rescheduled for a later date and the winner of that fight should fight Tyson Fury. Anything else would be unfair to the sport of boxing, and unfair to Otto Wallin.
“We’re definitely going to petition the WBC to make a decision.
“That’s what should be decided – the winner of Whyte-Wallin fights Tyson Fury.
“The WBC will pass what I feel is an important decision, which should set things right.”
SunSports understands Whyte has suffered a shoulder injury in training and is unable to compete.
DAZN and Matchroom are pushing ahead with the rest of the card, with Alen Babic and Eric Molina the new headline attraction.
SunSport understands Babic, 30, offered to step in and fight Wallin but the Swede’s camp refused.

Plant has had to wait a little longer for this fight, having not fought since January, when he outpointed Caleb Truax.
And now the pair will clash with Alvarez’s WBA, WBO, WBC and Ring Magazine titles on the line, while Plant will put his IBF strap up for grabs too.
    When is Canelo vs Plant?

Canelo Alvarez’s big fight with Caleb Plant will take place on Saturday, November 6.
The fight will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There should be close to 15,000 fans in attendance at the huge event.
Canelo vs Plant will get underway in the early hours of Sunday, November 7 for fans in the UK, with ring-walks set for around 4am GMT.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Alvarez’s clash with Plant will be shown live on BT Sport Box Office in the UK.
You can live stream the action from the BT Sport Box Office app, which is available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.
The event will set you back £19.95.

    Canelo vs Plant FULL CARD

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant – super-middleweight
Anthony Dirrell vs Marcos Hernandez – super-middleweight
Rey Vargas vs Leonardo Baez – super bantamweight
Elvis Rodriguez vs Juan Pablo Romero – super-lightweight

    What has been said?
“You are not on my level and you will see on November 6. You don’t want to fight now, I promise you,” Alvarez said.
“We come from nothing and we worked hard to be here. For somebody to lie and talk trash about us, that upset Eddy. It is what it is though. We just have to show everyone who we are on November 6.
“Caleb might be on the same level as Saunders and Smith, but he’s not on my level. I respect that he isn’t here to back down. You can see from today that this is definitely going to be a good fight.”
Plant said: “I know only one thing better than proving people right, and that’s proving people wrong. I’ve been doing that my whole life. As soon as I stepped on the stage, people started talking about what I can’t accomplish and what I can’t do.
“Where I come from, there is no boxing community. There was no other pro I could look to and say that if he can do it, then I can do it. All I had was my mind and my heart.
“I don’t do this to be famous or to get attention. When I first started, it was just me and my dad. No one thought I’d be standing here today.” More
