‘Rent free’ – Eddie Hearn hits back at Floyd Mayweather’s manager after calling Matchroom chief ‘pathological liar’

EDDIE HEARN joked he is living ‘rent free’ in Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe’s head after being branded as a ‘pathological liar’.The 42-year-old promoter and his American counterpart had different views on two world lightweight fights this weekend.

Hearn and Ellerbe have clashed in the past, with the former mocking his 56-year-old rival in 2019 for having less followers that his Twitter parody account ‘NoContextHearn’.
The Matchroom Sport chairman stated in an interview with Fight Hype that Devin Haney’s defence of his WBC title against Joseph Diaz is a bigger fight than Gervonta Davis’ WBA regular scrap vs Isaac Cruz.
He said: “I’m not hating on Gervonta Davis, but what’s the bigger fight this weekend? I’m sorry, everyone is talking about Haney-Diaz.
“No-one is talking about Gervonta against Isaac Cruz. And I’m not saying it’s a bad fight or hating on these guys. This (Haney-Diaz) is a much bigger fight and a much better fight.
“This isn’t me hating on fights, this is just reality. Gervonta Davis against Isaac Cruz, what does it do (pay-per-view buys)? 100,000? Less?
“Look, Isaac Cruz is tough and game. But it’s not that it’s a bad fight. It’s coming off the back of [Terence] Crawford-[Shawn]Porter, Canelo [Alvarez].

“And then two weeks later – off the back of Crawford-Porter – you’ve got Gervonta Davis against someone no one’s ever heard of.”
His comments infuriated Ellerbe, who reacted to the interview by slamming the Brit on social media.
He tweeted: “This is the last time I’m going to address this pathological liar. Haney is an excellent fighter but this guy just lies for no reason. Bigger fight?
“You’ve sold LESS than 4K tickets in a 15k seat venue, Tank did more than that in his presale before tickets went on sale.”
Ellerbe, who declared ‘f*** Eddie Hearn’ last month, continued: “He should just promote his fight and don’t worry about Tank and what we’re doing with our event.
“It’s the oldest trick in the book but he’s should know better to f*** with me, I’m stating facts and he’s lying trying to bring some attention to his event.
“Why even bring up somebody else’s event to attempt to shit on it knowing you’re lying and getting ready to be exposed for lying.
“I like their fight and I’m not going to s*** on it just to promote my event. That’s whack to me!”

Responding to Ellerbe, Hearn quipped that he is living ‘rent free’ in his head in a short tweet.
It read: “This is last time you are going to address it… and then address it about another ten times #rentfree.”
His followers were loving his jibe, as one commented: “A 10-8 round to Eddie against his favourite fan.”
Another messaged: “Lmaoooo Eddie got these guys on strings.”
A third added: “Big up Eddie Hearn, they’re all hating.” More

Gennady Golovkin fight against Ryota Murata POSTPONED as Japan shut borders due to Covid-19 Omicron variant

GENNADY GOLOVKIN’S upcoming fight with Ryota Murata has been postponed after Japan closed its borders due to the Covid-19 Omicron variant. The 39-year-old will now have to wait a little longer for his crack at becoming a two-time unified champion after the middleweight title clash on December 29 was scrapped.

Triple G confirmed the news on Twitter, writing: “I am deeply disappointed that fight in Japan has been postponed but the health and safety of the public must always be the priority. I look forward to returning to the ring against Ryota as soon as possible.”
New Covid restrictions have been put in place that prohibit foreigners from visiting Japan.
That new ruling was put in place on Monday in order to try and stop the spread of the novel Omicron variant.
Fight officials had been hoping that they could get an exception for Golovkin from the Japanese government, but that request has been denied.
The Kazakhstan superstar has been preparing for the bout in Hollywood, Florida, but now the fight is set to be rescheduled for 2022.
Golovkin, who turns 40 in April, has held the IBF and IBO titles since October 2019 when he beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko but has competed just once in the ring since.

The showdown with WBA champ Murata provided a chance for GGG to get his hands on another belt.
Murata, 35, last fought in December 2019 and said recently: “I feel that my entire amateur and professional boxing career has been a preparation for this fight against Gennadiy Golovkin.
“This fight will determine my place in the middleweight division and boxing history.
“Gennadiy Golovkin has long been the standard-bearer of the middleweight division. To me, he is still undefeated. I have the highest respect for him.” More

Deontay Wilder declares his best is ‘yet to come’ as he gives first interview since brutal KO loss to Tyson Fury

DEONTAY WILDER insists his ‘best is yet to come’ – despite his brutal loss to Tyson Fury. The American failed in his bid to reclaim the WBC heavyweight title from the Gypsy King in October, suffering a brutal 11th-round KO loss in their Sin City showdown.

Although Wilder’s herculean effort to become a two-time world champion fell flat on its face, the Alabama slammer is adamant his best days aren’t behind him.
The 36-year-old said: “For me, this is not it, this is just the beginning. The best is yet to come from me.
“Although I have accomplished a lot of things, more than I could’ve imagined.
“I do still have goals in the sport, that’s why I still have love for it.”
The Bronze Bomber is champing at the bit to get back in the ring and plans to return to the gym once his broken hand is fully healed.
The Olympian told fiancee Telli Swift on her YouTube channel: “I’m looking to accomplish the goals that I still have left.

“I broke my hand, so I’m in a healing process right now. Once this is over, I’ll resume training for sure.
“Boxing is a year-round sport, so you’ve always gotta be prepared, you’ve always gotta stay ready. After this, I’m looking to get right back in it.”
Unlike after his first defeat to Wythenshawe warrior Fury, Wilder has no excuses for his brutal knockout loss.
He said: “I’m grateful for that. I’m blessed all the way around.
“With that being said, it’s no complaints at all, we just move forward.
“You come up to a certain point, as humans we feel we come up to a dead-end or we fail, we think this is it for us.
“But when you’re travelling along your journey, nothing should be ‘this is it.’”
Team Wilder are targeting a May return for the ferocious power puncher.
Head coach Malik Scott told World Boxing News: “We should be back in camp, in my opinion, no later than March and fight in May.
“Or we may be back in camp before March. It all depends on how he recovers, how he’s feeling, how everything’s going.”
He added: “Deontay said he’s going to go on vacation, and I’m all for that, and in a few months, we’ll be back in camp, and he’ll be fighting.”

Paul’s ability to cause outrage in the boxing community has impressed many, including two-time WWE champ McIntyre.
The Scot told talkSPORT: “Jake Paul is a foe of everybody I guess. He gets it.
“So few people are willing to be true bad guys and make the public pay to see them get beat and he is a true bad guy.
“Whenever I see him show up at these events and the whole crowd starts booing him, I’m like ‘wow, that’s pretty cool.’
“He is basically the number one heel in the world so if he wants to swing by WWE and get Claymored in the face, that’s just fine with me!”
McIntyre sees similarities between Paul’s approach to the fight game and that of ‘The Greatest’, Muhammad Ali.

He added: “It’s like Muhammad Ali back in the day.
“Everyone just remembers the good parts and how great he was, but if you remember in the beginning of Ali’s career, he was playing the heel and taking inspiration from WWE.”
Problem Child Paul is gearing up for a grudge match with bitter rival Tommy Fury on December 18.
The social media sensation goes into the showdown as a huge underdog but is adamant he’ll shock the world and beat the younger brother of WBC heavyweight champ Tyson Fury.
He said: “I will TKO him in the later rounds.

“He hasn’t had a fight past four rounds so I think he’ll be gassed.
“I think this will be the first time he’s getting punched in the face by someone who can actually hit and is the same weight as him.
“He’s always fought smaller guys with losing records. So I think he’s going to fade. I know he’s going to fade.”

Mayweather Promotions’ Leonard Ellebre denies Gervonta Davis ‘ducking’ lightweight rivals and says ‘he beats them all’

GERVONTA DAVIS has been backed to prove his dominance in the lightweight division and put to bed accusations of ‘ducking’ his rivals. Davis has campaigned from super-featherweight all the way to light-welterweight in recent years, winning belts in the three divisions.

And he returns this Sunday against Mexican Isaac Cruz, filling in for Rolando Romero, who was withdrawn amid sexual assault allegations.
The likes of Ryan Garcia, 23, Devin Haney, 23, and Teofimo Lopez, 24, have all been touted as potential opponents for ‘Tank’ Davis.
Lopez did rule as unified champion until he was stunned by Georges Kambsos Jr, 28, last weekend in New York.
Meanwhile Haney and Garcia remain unbeaten but also untested at the top level as the division transitions with breakthrough stars and newly crowned champs.
But Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe insisted their man Davis is the boss at 135lb – and promised to prove it once and for all.
Ellerbe told SunSport: “To be totally honest, Tank beats them all.

“You can put them in any order or any fashion, you name it, every last one of them Tank beats them all.
“I’m very, very confident of that and when the time comes, he’ll prove it to the world.
“All of them are good fighters, but Tank is by far the best and it’s not even close.
“At the end of the day, if these guys continue doing what they need to do, these matchups will happen, I’m confident.
“Because, we ain’t ducking no work over here.”
Davis, 27, was due to fight fellow Mayweather protege Romero, 26, until the American was pulled out amid a sexual assault investigation.
If these guys continue doing what they need to do, these matchups will happen, I’m confident. Because, we ain’t ducking no work over here.Leonard Ellerbe
Instead, Cruz, 23, will get the chance of a lifetime to fill in on late notice and become an overnight sensation.
Ellerbe said: “It’s unfortunate the Romero fight fell out, but you know hey, those things are out of our control.
“There’s nothing we can do. Isaac Cruz is tough as nails, I’m not buying none of this crap that he’s ‘tailor-made’ for Tank, I’m not buying it.
“This guy is coming to take Tank out the way. He’s definitely the underdog coming in, he’s a very good fighter, ranked in the top ten with every organisation.
“That tells you everything you need to know, he’s one of the top lightweights in the world.
“This is a very dangerous guy, in some people’s eyes they say it’s a tougher fight, I don’t know, it’s not for me to make that judgement.”

The father of his alleged victim recently claimed 30-1 Saunders stabbed his son through his hand before pulling a gun on him.
But Saunders – who hasn’t fought since his sole career loss at the hands of Canelo Alvarez in May – called the claims ‘complete rubbish’.
In a short post on his Instagram story, the boxer wrote: “I am aware of a video circulating on social media.
“It makes certain allegations against me, all of which are complete rubbish.
“However, given the police may be involved at some stage, my lawyer advises me to make no public comment at this stage.
“I am of course more than happy to speak to the police should they wish to contact me.”

Saunders hasn’t fought since losing to pound-for-pound king Canelo in May.
The Brit’s team ultimately threw in the towel during the eight round after he fractured his eye.
Saunders was quick to claim he didn’t quit, saying: “If I wanted to go down on one knee with a broken eye socket, it could’ve easily been done.
“I went over a minute and still carried on… Anybody who knows me personally knows that’s not in me, ever.” More
