Taurai Zimunya dead at 24: Boxer dies after collapsing in ring following barrage of shots to head as inquest planned

ZIMBABWEAN boxer Taurai Zimunya, 24, died after he was knocked out and collapsed in the ring. The super bantamweight was on the receiving end of the heavy head shots whilst being backed into a corner on Saturday.

His opponent unloaded and landed a left-right combo to finish the non-title fight in round three of six in Harare.
And he sadly died on Monday from the injuries sustained in the ring.
The death of the boxer has resulted in serious questions being asked of the Zimbabwean boxing authorities.
An inquiry into how the death happened is yet to be announced with the general secretary of the Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board, Lawrence Zimbudzana, saying they will focus on Zimunya’s burial first.
Zimbudzana told BBC Sport Africa: “For now we will focus on the burial, and then we will sit down and look at the issues.”
The ZNBWCB insist ‘all the necessary medical procedures were followed’.

Zimunya’s former coach Tatenda Gada thinks Zimbabwe have been robbed of a bright prospect.
He said: “We’ve been robbed of one of our best prospects.
“I worked with Taurai for more than four years – I watched him progress and he was one for the future.” More

Caleb Plant overcame heartbreak of baby’s death and mum being killed by cops after learning to box in ring made of tape

CALEB PLANT will challenge the greatest boxer on the planet in Canelo Alvarez – but he has already won far bigger fights in his life. The unbeaten super-middleweight is 21-0 and currently reigns as the IBF champion ahead of the unification bout over the weekend in Las Vegas.

But he remarkably achieved the feat after the tragic death of his baby daughter Alia before later losing his mother Beth, who was shot dead by police.
Nothing he faces in the ring could possibly come close to the heartbreak already suffered, but it has helped shape the American’s resolve.
In an exclusive interview, Plant, 29, told SunSport: “I feel like the situations you go through, they make you who you are and there’s clearly no quit in me.
“I could have quit a long time ago, and people would have said, ‘Well, it makes sense because of this, or because of that’.”
Plant started boxing at the age of eight in his hometown of Ashland City in Tennessee, which has a population of just over 4,500 people.
With no local boxing club in sight, parents were forced to tape together a makeshift ring, or huddle around to make a square.

It may not have been the most traditional start for Plant, but quickly helped him find his passion for the sport.
He said: “When you really want something, regardless of what it is, you don’t always have to have the fanciest gear or the latest technology, or the greatest, latest stuff.
“Just like many great boxers before me, regardless of where they’re from, they’re not always starting out with the nicest stuff.
“You don’t need the latest stuff to get where you’re heading – all you need is focus and drive.”
Plant went on to have a successful amateur career, representing the USA squad, even acting as an alternate on the 2012 Olympic team.
But his humble beginnings are what inspired him to reach the boxing pinnacle – and make sure he stays there.

Plant said: “Most great men start in that position, with very little and that’s what motivates them to get where they’re going.
“When there’s tough moments, having that to lean on, thinking back like, ‘I gotta make this work, this has to happen’.
“Because you think there’s no way I can go back to that, or live out the rest of my days in a situation like that or let my children grow up like that.
“Just like many other great men who have accomplished a lot in life, it’s a good motivation.”
Plant turned professional in May 2014, 12 months after he had welcomed baby daughter Alia into the world.
However, she was unfortunately born with an unknown medical condition which caused seizures.

Plant sat and cared for Alia every day, but after 19 months she passed away after catching a respiratory infection which developed into pneumonia.
The devastated boxer vowed to win a world title for his little girl, and in 2019 his promise was fulfilled after beating Jose Uzcategui on points.
Plant dedicated the win to Alia and later took his IBF belt to her grave.
But in another devastating incident, in March 2019, only two months after the greatest night in his boxing career, the fighter’s mother was shot dead.
Plant’s mum Beth was fatally wounded by police in Tennessee after they said she pulled a knife on an officer.

The undefeated fighter continues to honour his daughter and mother, wearing their names on his short.
He has made three successful defences of his title, earning him the right to fight for Canelo’s WBC, WBA and WBO belts in a historic undisputed title decider.
And despite having the odds once more stacked against him, Plant explains he has come too far to fail now.
He said: “This boxing thing is a one-way trip for me. I burned all my ships when I started over here, there is no return, there is no going back.
“Boxing is a one-way trip for me and I am going to get where I want to get and accomplish what I want to accomplish.”

‘He’s never fought a Joe Calzaghe’ – Canelo Alvarez could be all-time ring legend but I’d have beaten him, says Calzaghe

CANELO ALVAREZ is on course to become an all-time boxing legend – but the Welsh dragon still reckons he would have slayed him.Joe Calzaghe ended his career undefeated after 46 brilliant wins and would have been the undisputed super-middleweight champion if it were not for grubby boxing politics.
Boxing superstar Canelo Alvarez is set to battle Caleb Plant on Saturday in Las Vegas
That is the iconic four-belt status the 31-year-old is going for on Saturday, as he aims to add Caleb Plant’s IBF 12st title to his WBC, WBA and WBO belts.
The magnificent Mexican now boasts a record of 56-1-2 and has also collected world titles at super-welter, middle and light-heavyweight – where Calzaghe ended his legendary reign with wins over Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr.
Another Las Vegas win this weekend will put Canelo in 49-year-old Calzaghe’s pound-for-pound top-10 of all time – but the brilliant Brit still backs himself to have trumped the ace.
He said: “if he continues the way he’s going and winning titles, he has to be in the top 10 of all-time probably, based on what he’s achieved.
“And his longevity, longevity is important as well. Winning the title is one thing, we’ve seen fighters win a title and then lose it, so for him to still be the champion is impressive.
“He’s still only 31, he’s just a true, true champion and I have a lot of respect for him.

“But of course I’d win against him in my prime! He’s never fought a Joe Calzaghe and I never fought Canelo, but it’s a fight when I look at it that I would love to have had.
“Of course, I wish I was around now when Canelo is around. Of course it would be a tough fight, but I think I would have won.
“He’s 5ft 8ins, it would have been a great fight, but I would have won!”
Southpaw Calzaghe believes his unorthodox stance – that helped fellow lefties Erisland Lara and Austin Trout give Canelo problems in their distance losses – would have helped him secure a fantasy-fight victory.
But Plant, 29, will have a stance and style all too familiar for the Guadalajara gunslinger, leaving Calzaghe unsure how the underdog can stun the world.
“I was a southpaw who threw punches in bunches, combinations and had speed but I could also adapt,” the happily retired hero said.
Boxing great Joe Calzaghe insists he would have beaten Canelo Alvarez in his primeCredit: Getty
“When you are fighting a guy like Canelo who you have to have a plan B, if you don’t then you will never be competitive.
“You need to be able to switch from the front to backfoot, from aggressive or defensive, to try to confuse him and put him off of his gameplan.
“Plant has good skills, he is slick and can move, he has fast hands but you’re in a completely different league when you fight Canelo.
“Plant needs to land combinations and have the better jab but Canelo is a master of closing down the range and cutting off the ring so Plant needs a plan B.
“I don’t know how hard Plant hits, I know he only has 12 KOs (from 21 wins) so this fight will answer a lot of questions because Canelo is red hot.”
Canelo is as hot in the box office and pay-per-view stakes as he is in the rankings, meaning anyone who signs up to face him earns life-changing money – win or lose.

And Calzaghe reckons that extra power could hand the flame-haired fighter a psychological boost before the bell even rings.
He laughed: “I think having that hold over an opponent could have an effect but I wouldn’t know as I never had that luxury, I had to really earn my big paydays!
“But going from earning hundreds of thousands of pounds to multi-millions in one hit is bound to affect you because it is life changing.
“You could instantly feel you are set for life and your hunger could suffer.
“It must be like winning the lottery – but instead of having to pay for a ticket you have to get your a*** kicked.”

Boxing legend Tyson Fury took two women on a wild eight-hour booze bender after they asked him for a selfie

WORLD boxing champion Tyson Fury took two fans on an eight-hour booze bender — after the women asked the heavyweight for a selfie.Stella Kabelis, 21, and Kailah Downie, 24, knocked back shots and danced with Tyson at a bar.
Stella Kabelis, 21, (left) and Kailah Downie, 24, knocked back shots and danced with Tyson at a bar
Tyson went back to their Manchester flat
A pal said: “The girls couldn’t believe their luck.”
The 33-year-old fighter then went back to their Manchester flat while wife Paris was at home.
A source said: “Stella and Kailah were really starstruck and enjoyed a taste of the high life with him. He was a perfect gentleman and they have been telling their friends what an amazing time they had. They think Tyson is great.
“Stella and Kailah are normal hard-working girls who went out for a midweek drink and ended up doing shots and dancing with one of the world’s most famous sporting stars. They felt very lucky to be out with him and he was very complimentary to them and they loved his fun-loving personality.
“He’s a beast of a boxer, but out of the ring he’s a gentle, fun-loving guy.”
The dad of six, who has been partying hard since his epic world title win over Deontay Wilder last month, was out in Manchester on Wednesday afternoon while wife Paris was at home with their newborn baby.
Stella and Kailah spotted him and coach Andy Lee in a swanky restaurant. They filmed him before posting on Snapchat: “Not Tyson Fury being sat right behind us.”
Outside they approached the two-times world champ for a selfie and Tyson happily obliged.

A picture posted on Stella’s Facebook page shows Tyson – wearing a navy blue blazer, jeans and a white shirt – smiling with his arms around both girls.
It racked up over 150 likes after she captioned it: “Us and the Gypsy King.” Kailah later shared a selfie with the boxer on Instagram, posting: “Trust me to have no make-up on the day I meet Tyson Fury.”
The group exchanged numbers before the girls headed to the city’s Hatch pop-up complex where they downed £8.50 Pornstar cocktails from the Miami Ice bar.
But they were floored when they got a WhatsApp message from Tyson’s pal Andy asking them to join them for something to eat.
Stella replied: “I’m just having a drink in a bar. I’m not looking my best right now to be joining for dinner as I’m in my comfies. I’m heading home but I can get ready.”
Do you and your girlfriend want to come and meet me and Tyson?Andy LeeTyson’s coach
Andy replied: “You look good to me.”
He then asked: “Do you and your girlfriend want to come and meet me and Tyson?”
The delighted girls were only too happy to have a round or two with the boxer, who has a personal fortune estimated at £40million.
A photo posted on Stella’s Snapchat account later shows her cosying up to Tyson at a cocktail bar.
He can be seen knocking back shots, while pretending to throw some of his famous jabs.
Kailah then posted footage of the boxer busting some moves on the dancefloor alongside two laughing emojis, saying: “As if I’m on a night out with Tyson Fury.”
As the night wore on, there was no sign of any imminent stoppages, and another picture on Stella’s Snapchat account showed Tyson standing in the street, captioned: “Back with the boy x.”
The group then travelled to Stella and Kailah’s £1,000-a-month flat in Salford to continue partying.
The boxer FaceTimed his reality TV star brother Tommy, with a pic showing Stella and Tyson holding up his phone, captioned: “On FaceTime to Tommy Fury.”
    ‘ON FACETIME TO TOMMY FURY’
Tyson eventually called it a night at around 11.30pm — more than eight hours after he met the girls.
Stella and Kailah are understood to work for Covid testing firm Randox. Stella has a criminal justice degree from the University of Plymouth and posts saucy snaps on her social media.
Last night a pal said: “The girls couldn’t believe their luck. They love a night out but never expected to party with Tyson Fury.
“They were off work on Wednesday so they went shopping before heading for drinks. But in the afternoon they saw Tyson with his pal and started chatting with him.
“Stella swapped numbers with Andy and he messaged soon after inviting them out for dinner.
“They had a few cocktails together and were asking Tyson about his boxing career and he really enjoyed being in the company of some down-to-earth girls.
    SAUCY SNAPS
“He might be heavyweight champion, but he’s a man of the people and likes to live as normal a life as possible. They thought Tyson was very charming and he was very complimentary to them.
“They had some drinks and did some shots. Tyson is really enjoying partying at the moment following his last fight. The four of them carried on the party at the apartment for another couple of hours until Tyson left at around 11.20pm.
“The girls assume he left so that he could go home to his wife Paris and his children.”
The day before, Tyson had a game of bingo in his home town of Morecambe with TV stars Andrew Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp.
Tyson’s gruelling third fight against Wilder last month saw him get up from the canvas twice to win in the 11th round — cementing his place in heavyweight boxing folklore.
He, Paris and their family then spent two days partying in Las Vegas, enjoying champagne and vodka-fulled binges.
    ‘GOOD FUN’
Paris and Tyson met when they were teenagers and married in 2008.
She gave birth to their sixth child Athena in August, and the pair previously told how they want 11 children.
Stella remained tight-lipped when contacted by The Sun but acknowledged the night was “good fun”.
She added: “I’m not willing to make any further comment.”
Tyson’s spokeswoman was contacted for comment.

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant: UK start time, live stream, TV channel, undercard for super-middleweight fight THIS WEEK

CANELO ALAVREZ returns to the ring against Caleb Plant in a massive super-middleweight undisputed title fight THIS WEEKEND.Alvarez was last in action back in May, when he TKO’d Billy Joe Saunders in the 8th round of their title clash in Texas.

Plant has had to wait a little longer for this fight, having not fought since January, when he outpointed Caleb Truax.
The Nashville fighter won his first world title in 2019, beating Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui, and has since defended it three times.
Alvarez is on a hot streak of wins following his draw with Gennady Golovkin back in 2017.
He’s since beaten Golovkin, Rocky Fielding, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim and Saunders, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process.
Plant’s IBF title at 168lbs represents the final piece of Alvarez’s jigsaw, which could see the Mexican crowned as his country’s first ever undisputed champion.
Alvarez and Plant had originally planned to clash back in September, but negotiations fell through before a solution was found weeks later.
The fight will be held on Showtime pay-per-view in the U.S., which will be the first time Alvarez hasn’t fought on DAZN stateside since 2018.
A win for either fighter would crown the second undisputed champion in 2021, after Josh Taylor picked up all the belts at 140lbs in his win over Jose Ramirez back in May.
    When is Canelo vs Plant?

Canelo Alvarez’s big fight with Caleb Plant will take place on Saturday, November 6.
The fight will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There should be close to 15,000 fans in attendance at the huge event.
Canelo vs Plant will get underway in the early hours of Sunday, November 7 for fans in the UK, with ring-walks set for around 4am GMT.

What channel is it and can it be live streamed?

Alvarez’s clash with Plant will be shown live on BT Sport Box Office in the UK.
You can live stream the action from the BT Sport Box Office app, which is available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.
The event will set you back £19.95.

    Canelo vs Plant FULL CARD

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant – super-middleweight
Anthony Dirrell vs Marcos Hernandez – super-middleweight
Rey Vargas vs Leonardo Baez – super bantamweight
Elvis Rodriguez vs Juan Pablo Romero – super-lightweight

    What has been said?
Alvarez said: “You are not on my level and you will see on November 6. You don’t want to fight now, I promise you.
“We come from nothing and we worked hard to be here. For somebody to lie and talk trash about us, that upset Eddy. It is what it is though. We just have to show everyone who we are on November 6.
“Caleb might be on the same level as Saunders and Smith, but he’s not on my level. I respect that he isn’t here to back down. You can see from today that this is definitely going to be a good fight.”
Plant said: “I know only one thing better than proving people right, and that’s proving people wrong. I’ve been doing that my whole life. As soon as I stepped on the stage, people started talking about what I can’t accomplish and what I can’t do.
“Where I come from, there is no boxing community. There was no other pro I could look to and say that if he can do it, then I can do it. All I had was my mind and my heart.
“I don’t do this to be famous or to get attention. When I first started, it was just me and my dad. No one thought I’d be standing here today.”

Who could Canelo Alvarez fight after Caleb Plant?
Assuming Alvarez beats Plant and ends his streak with all four 168lbs belts in his grasp, the opportunities to have mega-fights from thereon would be near endless.
Alvarez is a huge star in the U.S. and Mexico and can continue to fight on pay-per-view, as a free agent, for the rest of his career, if he wanted.
If Alvarez were to stick around with PBC and Showtime for a while, a big-money fight with Jermall Charlo, the current WBC middleweight champion, would make sense.
There’s also former champion at super-middleweight and rising star David Benavidez to possibly contend with.
With DAZN, however, there’s still a potential trilogy fight with Golovkin to explore, with the Kazakh fighter still feeling begrudged about the results in their first two fights.
Otherwise Alvarez could revisit the light-heavyweight division, where’s previously been the WBO champion after beating Kovalev in 2019.
Current WBC and IBF champ Artur Beterbiev would arguably represent the toughest test of Alvarez’s career, as he boasts a menacing 100% KO ratio, the only titleholder in boxing to have that under his belt.
Or there’s WBA champion Dimitry Bivol, a route that seems the more likely, given his relationship with promoter Eddie Hearn, whom Alvarez is closely aligned with. More

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant could turn into a proper bloodbath… this is NO fake grudge match

BOXING’S big grudge matches come along about as frequently as fights of the century.Nothing excites fans and promoters more than the anticipation of seeing a bloodbath between two men who supposedly hate each other’s guts.
Canelo vs Plant could turn into a real bloodbath with the two genuinely disliking each otherCredit: AP
Caleb Plant was left with a gash under his eye following his press conference scrap with CaneloCredit: Getty Images – Getty
It certainly does no harm to ticket sales or pay-per-view TV buys, but in reality those occasions are extremely rare.
Yet American referee Russell Mora will definitely have his hands full when Mexican Canelo Alvarez clashes with Tennessee’s Caleb Plant in Las Vegas in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Canelo, who holds the WBC, WBA and WBO world super-middleweight belts, should have little trouble taking care of unbeaten IBF champion Plant.
There is genuine animosity between them after they came to blows at a Los Angeles press conference six weeks ago.
Canelo lost his normal cool with Plant, claiming the American had insulted his mother.
It provoked ugly scenes and punches were exchanged. When security men broke them up, Plant was bleeding from a nasty cut beneath his right eye.

FREE BETS: GET OVER £2,000 IN NEW CUSTOMER DEALS
Former double world champion turned pundit, Carl Frampton, suggested the healing time for the wound would seriously disrupt Plant’s training programme.
Plant may have won all 21 of his fights but I would have thought it unwise in the extreme to antagonise the man regarded as, pound-for-pound, the greatest fighter on the planet.
Ruthless fighting machine Canelo, 31, has lost just one of his 59 fights – that was eight years ago when he was narrowly outpointed by Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Though he says he wants to keep boxing for at least another seven years, my advice is don’t miss the chance to watch him now before his powers decline.
Someone suggested Alvarez is the Cristiano Ronaldo of boxing – I rather think Ronaldo is the Alvarez of football.
He is a massive 1-12 favourite to beat Plant to become the first fighter to unify the super-middle division.
Alvarez predicts that he will finish the job by the eighth round – but it wouldn’t be surprising if he destroys Plant, 29, long before then.
Despite the pre-fight nastiness, once hostilities cease no doubt the pair will bury the hatchet.
Unlike the fourth world featherweight championship war between Willie Pep and Sandy Saddler at New York’s Polo Grounds 70 years ago.
It’s on record as the dirtiest fight of all time.
Until Pep retired with an eye injury at the end of the ninth, they gouged each other in the eyes, rabbit punched, kidney punched, hit below the belt and even wrestled each other on the canvas.
Compared to Pep and Saddler, I’m sure Alvarez and Plant will behave like perfect gentlemen.

Canelo Alvarez makes knock-out prediction for Caleb Plant grudge fight and doesn’t expect new challenge

The IBF super middleweight title is in Alvarez’s sights as he looks to become undisputed champion.
The contest comes to us from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Caleb Plant – the 29-year-old American with a 21-0 record – stands in his way.
The orthodox fighter from Tennessee has taken part in ten week preparations with the help of the unbeaten champion’s trainer Justin Gamber, detailed exclusively by SunSport.
Canelo, 31, comes into the fight off the back of a hugely successful 12 month period.
He has already fought – and won – three times in the past year.
The 5ft 9in Mexican has defeated Callum Smith, 31, Avni Yildirim, 30, and Billy Joe Saunders, 31 along the way.

Canelo is predicting good competition from Plant but says the American will be KO’d somewhere between the seventh and ninth rounds.
He says: “That’s why we are here and Saturday night, we are gonna make history.
“He’s a good fighter with a lot of skills, but he’s nothing new for me. I’ve been in there with a lot of good fighters, so it’s nothing different.
“I think in my opinion, it’s going to be seven to nine rounds.” More

Canelo Alvarez’s five biggest strengths that Caleb Plant must beware from brutal power to Matrix-like head movement

CANELO ALVAREZ has one more step, opponent and fight in his way before becoming the undisputed super-middleweight king.IBF champion and 21-0 challenger Caleb Plant stands across the Las Vegas ring from him on Saturday night as the 7-1 underdog in a two-horse race.
Canelo has three super-middleweight titles and fights for the IBF on Saturday night

The WBC, WBA and WBO mastermind has no so many skills in his arsenal and marquee names on his record that the bookies can barely see a way for the underdog to have his day.
The 31-year-old Mexican has won world titles at super-welter, middle and even up at light-heavy and only been beaten by the legend Floyd Mayweather, when he was a 23-year-old novice.
SunSport found it almost impossible to list five weaknesses Plant might be able to exploit on Saturday.
But an even harder task has been whittling down his strengths to just five.
    PUNCH POWER
We could have been more specific and celebrated the Mexican-style body punching that Canelo used to savage brave Brits Liam Smith and Rocky Fielding.
But then we are at risk of forgetting the head shots that knocked Amir Khan clean out and forced Billy Joe Saunders into quitting.
The sheer brutality of the man even allowed him to batter Callum Smith’s arm so badly that his bicep detached from the bone and needed career-saving surgery!
When Alvarez plants his feet and picks his shot, no body part above the belt is safe.
It’s not always one-shot obliteration, from the old Deontay Wilder playbook, but it is brutal precision punching and crunching combinations that have cracked some of the toughest men in the sport.

JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET A FREE £10 BONUS WITH 100s OF GAMES TO PLAY AND NO DEPOSIT REQUIRED (Ts&Cs apply)

    HEAD MOVEMENT
With a chin as good as Canelo’s you probably don’t even need to worry about protecting it that much.
A couple of the flush shots knockout artist Gennady Golovkin landed, across their brilliant 24 rounds would have floored a horse but the Guadalajara ace just marched through the abuse.
But Canelo’s head movement – which he constantly works on in Eddy Reynoso’s gym – has been earning memes of it own, thanks to its Matrix-like qualities.
In the fights against GGG, Miguel Cotto and especially Danny Jacobs has been nothing short of amazing.
Because the 56-1-2 ace loves to plant his feet and land power shots, he has to be an expert at defending in the pocket, in range, and he has proven himself a master of the old art.
Canelo Alvarez sits top of the pile in Sports Illustrated’s pound-for-pound top ten list
    ENGINE
Canelo failed at least two drug tests in between his two brilliant bouts with Golovkin but was only hit with a six-month ban, it remains a black mark on his record that his biggest backers want you to forget.
At least clenbuterol, the asthma drug in his system that he blamed on contaminated Mexican meat, is a body-building favourite for helping to melt away fat and not a steroid favoured for helping to build fitness or strength.
In the 59 fights Canelo has gone the 12-round distance 14 times and, just before he was a household superstar, the 10-round distance on five occasions. And never has he looked like he is struggling down the final straight.
Even when he went up to light-heavyweight – piling on muscle to hit 12st 7lbs and blast out bonafide great Sergey Kovalev – his gas tank never seemed to struggle under the extra strain.
And that aerobic capacity not only means Canelo always makes the final bell, but that he remains a violent threat until the last second.
Kovalev, Billy Joe Saunders and Liam Smith were all stopped at various stages of the last four rounds of their bouts, proving nobody is safe until they hear the final bell.

    EXPERIENCE
The flame-haired superstar is the youngest of seven brothers who all boxed professionally.
With minimal amateur experience, the pugilism prodigy turned pro at just 15 and learned his craft the old fashioned way.
In 2006 he enjoyed seven fights, the same again in 2007, upped the ante to eight in 2008.
Even in the modern day, when elite fighters can afford to fight two or three times a year and the pandemic has cancelled month’s worth of shows, Canelo has his fifth fight inside 12 months on Saturday.
The ace has struggled with southpaws, outpointed KO artists, overpowered fading legends, stunned opponents early and scored stoppages while behind on the cards.
Caleb Plant will have to do something sensational on Saturday as his opponent will have seen it all before.
    ARROGANCE
There is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. But in boxing – perhaps more than any other sport – arrogance is thoroughly earned and can be a brilliant weapon.
How many of Saul Alvarez’s opponent’s have genuinely believed they can beat him?
How many of the victims on his record has he started at down the barrel and calmly told ‘you are not on my level’? How many of them has he convinced?
Everybody wants to fight Canelo because he is the biggest payday in the sport – he knows it too and sometimes takes pleasure in telling people that he is paying their wages.
The Mexican has already drawn blood in this rivalry, counter-slapping Plant with two perfect shots at their pre-fight press conference, causing the America’s designer sunglasses to cut him on the right cheek.
Plant has earned his shot and his cheque but he is going to need superhuman belief and resolve to overwhelm the will of Saul Alvarez.
