Canelo Alvarez ahead on all three scorecards before KO of Caleb Plant with one judge scoring EIGHT rounds to Mexican

CANELO ALVAREZ was in no need of the judges scorecards after knocking out Caleb Plant – but was ahead with all three anyway. The Mexican knocked Plant out in round 11 after two knockdown to become the first ever undisputed super-middleweight champion.

The official scorecards from Las Vegas
It is the first time Canelo has achieved the feat in his 60-fight career, which started when he was only 15.
And he did it in brutal style, punching Plant into the ropes and leaving the referee with no choice but to wave it off.
The three judges scorecards afterwards all revealed Canelo to have been ahead, by one, two and SEVEN rounds.
Steve Weisfeld scored it, 98-92, Dave Moretti 97-93 and Patricia Morse Jarman: 96-94, all in favour of Alvarez.
Amazingly, it meant Jarman gave Plant just TWO rounds, the first and ninth.
Canelo added the IBF title to his WBC, WBA and WBO collection, completing super-middleweight supremacy inside 11 months.

He said: “I want to thank everyone here toight. It hasn’t been easy to get to this point.
“But with your support, my family, my team, we’ve got really far. This is for everybody, especially in Mexico.”
Canelo, 31, admitted he had never felt as much animosity towards an opponent as he did to Plant, 29.
But after the victory, the sport’s biggest star credited his opponent, who certainly did not come to make up the numbers.
Canelo said: “My respect for Caleb Plant. He’s a terrific fighter with a lot of ability.
“We’re men at the end. He wanted to still fight me, he wanted to still continue. And there’s no shame, we had a great fight today.
“But of course, we came out on top.”

Canelo Alvarez BEATS Caleb Plant with 11th round knockout to win super-middleweight undisputed title in Vegas

CANELO ALVAREZ made history as he delivered a stunning 11th-round knockout of Caleb Plant to become the first ever undisputed super-middleweight champ. The Mexican struggled throughout the fight, but found his power punches when he needed to – and in some style.

Canelo couldn’t really find his range – until the 11th when he delivered a brutal left hook that scrambled Plant’s senses.
Although he got back to his feet, it was only for a matter of seconds before the brute Canelo hammered in more power shots to send Plant back to the floor.
The referee waved it off as the MGM erupted to crown one of the greatest ever boxers who walked away with the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
Despite Plant impressing up to that point, the judges ringside incredibly had Canelo well ahead on the scorecards.
The Las Vegas crowd showed who their favourite was from the very first bell, with ever shot from Canelo getting a whoop.
Plant was, as you’d expect, cautious, and started to box at range with the Mexican walking forward.

Plant started the second quickly, trying to establish his left-hand lead, with Canelo keeping up the pressure.
The American worryingly sat on the ropes a bit too long at times offering Canelo in, but the Mexican hadn’t quite found his range.
The better work at the start of the third undoubtedly came from Plant, showing good hand speed and keeping his left high.
Canelo seemed there to be hit at time, but Plant was perhaps a little too conservative, wary of the Mexican’s power.
The big favourite finally got himself into range half-way through the fourth, raining in some beautiful body shots.
Canelo certainly didn’t have things all his own way
Plant impressed on his big chance before unravelling late on
It seemed to slow the underdog down almost instantly as the crowd started to get excited.
And the cut Plant suffered when he was caught by Canelo at their press conference opened up in the fourth.
Plant bobbed and weaved in the early stages of the fifth, with Canelo over-reaching at times, and bamboozled by some of his opponent’s footwork.
Plant used a Floyd Mayweather-style defence in the sixth – sure to give Canelo bad memories of his only career loss.
But then Plant struggled to move his feet as Canelo stepped things up to the head and body, before the fan-favourite smirked at his opponent at the end of the round.
Canelo skipped into the seventh – one of the rounds he predicted could be the KO.

Plant used his jab at range quite well in the early stagesCredit: AP
But Plant got back to his jab after swallowing some heavy shots before the two engaged in a bit of cat and mouse.
The eighth became a bit of a chess match, with Plant using his jab to good effect and Canelo struggling to get into the American’s face.
Canelo was berated by his coach Eddy Reynoso before the ninth as their corner knew he needed to step things up.
He landed a solid left hand after 90 seconds but failed to follow it with anything worthwhile.
Canelo was then left rather embarrassed when Plant landed a beautiful flurry of shots to the face.
But in the tenth he had some decent success as he went toe-to-toe with Plant who sagged a couple of times.
And in the 11th, Canelo had his man down.
A giant left sank Plant. He got to his feet, but a barrage then ended it as the fight was waved off.

Speaking after his triumph, the 31-year-old from Guadalajara said: “I want to thank everyone here tonight. It hasn’t been easy to get to this point.
“But with your support, my family, my team, we’ve got really far. This is for everybody, especially in Mexico.
“My respect for Caleb Plant. He’s a terrific fighter with a lot of ability.

‘God willing I’ll fight again in February’ – Mike Tyson confirms boxing return as he sits ringside for Canelo vs Plant

MIKE TYSON took his seat for the undisputed blockbuster between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant – and confirmed he will box again in February.Iron Mike was a fixture in Fight Week for the super-middleweight scrap, so it was no surprise to see him ringside in Las Vegas.
Mike Tyson says he will return to the boxing ring in February
And while he watches the two boxers trade leather, he is itching to get back in the ring himself.
While being interviewed by Showtime, the 55-year-old said: “God willing I’ll fight again in February.”
SunSport exclusively revealed that was the former heavyweight champion’s plan – and he wants a ‘really stimulating opponent’.
Tyson made a remarkable ring return last November, for an eight-round exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr.
He drew with fellow American icon Jones, 52, but insisted it was not the last boxing fans will see of him in a ring.
And in an exclusive interview with The Sun, Iron Mike opened up about who he could fight next, amid claims it could be either Logan or Jake Paul.

Tyson recently said he could KO 4-0 boxer Jake ‘so f***ing easy’ but would NEVER do so, as his family ‘love’ the social media influencer.
Older brother Logan, 26, however, who took Floyd Mayweather, 44, the distance in their exhibition in June, has welcomed a fight with Iron Mike.

Canelo Alvarez earns £30m GUARANTEED before PPV bonuses with Caleb Plant banking at least £7.4m with purses revealed

CANELO ALVAREZ is set to earn a GUARANTEED £30million to fight Caleb Plant – before any pay-per-view bonuses are added on. And Plant is set to earn at least £7.4m for his part in the first-ever, undisputed super-middleweight undisputed title decider.
Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant before their fightCredit: Amanda Westcott
The pre-fight purses were revealed by Dan Rafael, and do not consist of anything earned after the PPV success.
For Canelo’s wins over Callum Smith, 31, in December 2020 and Avni Yildirim, 29, in February, Forbes reported he made £23.7m.
And for his last win, against Billy Joe Saunders, 31, in May, the Mexican was believed to have been paid close to £25m.
Canelo took eight rounds to break down Saunders, and leave the previously unbeaten Brit with FOUR face fractures.
That came after some heated trash talking but Alvarez warned Plant, 29, has lit a fire under him like no other.
And he promised to make the undefeated American pay – within the 12 round distance.

Canelo, 31, predicted: “That’s why we are here and Saturday night, we are gonna make history.
“He’s a good fighter with a lot of skills, but he’s nothing new for me. I’ve been in there with a lot of good fighters, so it’s nothing different.
“I think in my opinion, it’s going to be seven to nine rounds.”
Canelo’s last three fights have all been as a free agent on DAZN promoted by Eddie Hearn.
But Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champion’s – who Plant is signed with – prized the four-division champion over to Showtime PPV for the unification bout.

Logan Paul calls out boxing star Tyson Fury for MMA fight, claiming ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’

LOGAN PAUL has called out Tyson Fury to an MMA fight, and claimed: ‘The bigger they are, the harder they fall’. The YouTuber’s brother Jake, 4-0 as a boxer, is set to face Tommy Fury on December 18 in Florida.

But it did not stop Logan from admitting his respect to Tommy’s older and undefeated brother Tyson, the WBC heavyweight champion.
And while appearing to rule out ever boxing the Gypsy King, instead the social media influencer laid out a challenge to fight in the cage.
Asked for his favourite fighter, Logan responded: “Probably Tyson Fury. I love Tyson Fury.
“I think Jake should fight Tommy, then I should fight Tyson.”
Logan, 26, was then probed to clarify his callout to Fury, 33, and whether he would be willing to fight the boxing superstar.
And he said: “Yeah, sure. In an MMA match. The bigger they are, the harder they fall, brother.”
Fury has flirted with the idea of an MMA switch once his boxing career is done.

But more recently, he shut down the idea but admitted he would be open to a striking bout, in MMA gloves, but with grappling permitted.
Logan meanwhile, wrestled in high school and has always eyed a move into the cage.
He has boxed three times before, his opening two bouts against online rival KSI, 28, with the first ending in a draw.
But they later turned professional a year later and Logan was beaten via scrappy split-decision.
The American then returned this June for a sensational exhibition bout against Floyd Mayweather, 44, who gave away TWO STONE.
And after Mayweather failed to score a knockout, no winner was declared.
Logan has now been linked with a fight against heavyweight legend Mike Tyson, 55, who returned last November in an exhibition with Roy Jones Jr, 52.

    BENN BACKS…
WBA Continental Welterweight champion Conor Benn is backing Canelo to stop Plant tonight, but suggests that the American shouldn’t be underestimated.
Benn said: “You guys have been asking for my prediction and my prediction is Alvarez between 8 and 11 for a stoppage.
“But I wouldn’t write Caleb Plant off. If anyone can beat Alvarez, Plant definitely has the skillset to do so.”
Benn signed a new five-year deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom back in July and is 19-0 with 12 knockouts.

    HEARN BACKS CANELO
“It’s a good fight. Caleb Plant is an exceptional fighter. He’s a great mover, has good fundamentals; I just don’t see him beating Canelo Alvarez. I’ve been watching boxing for 33 years live and I’ve never seen anything like him,” the Matchroom chief said.
“And I’ve watched [Floyd] Mayweather live, Mike Tyson, Prince Nassem Hamed, Joe Calzaghe, I’ve watched great Brits, Mexican fighters, I’ve watched [Manny Pacquiao], I’ve watched [Juan Manuel] Marquez – I’ve seen all these guys live and I’ve never seen anything like Canelo Alvarez.
“Plant has a chance because he’s a world class fighter. He’s a brilliant fighter, he’s always got a chance, but something has to go wrong [for Canelo[, you know what I mean?
“If you get the best Canelo Alvarez against the best Caleb Plant, Canelo Alvarez wins 10 times out of 10.”

    WARD PICKS PLANT
Andre Ward has been helping Caleb Plant throughout training camp and is backing his pal to beat Canelo Alvarez tonight.
“I’m not a believer when you face a guy that’s powerful or a guy that’s supposed to have punching power you’re [supposed to] avoid him and being perfect for 12 [rounds],” he said.
“Like, I don’t believe in that. Like, I like to go rattle their cage. In fact, you gotta rattle the cage.
“What I mean by that is that sometimes you gotta [sic] go to that power and smother it.
“You gotta let them know, whoever it is, hey, you can get hurt, too.
“Caleb is a guy that has more power than they realize.
“I think he’s physically strong. I just think it’s always crazy until you do it. It’s easy for fans to choose – the easy pick is Canelo because of his history and everything he accomplished.
“But I’ll support Caleb, win, lose, or draw. But I think he has a great opportunity to go out there and shock the world. He just needs to put his mental on and make it happen.”
    PLANT 🗣
Plant said: “I know only one thing better than proving people right, and that’s proving people wrong. I’ve been doing that my whole life. As soon as I stepped on the stage, people started talking about what I can’t accomplish and what I can’t do.
“Where I come from, there is no boxing community. There was no other pro I could look to and say that if he can do it, then I can do it. All I had was my mind and my heart.
“I don’t do this to be famous or to get attention. When I first started, it was just me and my dad. No one thought I’d be standing here today.”
    RESPECT
Boxing legend Mike Tyson was in attendance at the weigh-in between Canelo and Plant last night.
When asked what it means to have Tyson there to watch him fight, Canelo spoke of his admiration for the youngest boxer ever to win a heavyweight title.
He said: “It means a lot, he was a great fighter, a legend. I want to be like him one day, so it means a lot.”
Tyson also posed for photos with Canelo and his daughter, who was also present at the weigh-in and matched her father in a yellow silk outfit adorned with the Mexican flag.

    TALE OF THE TAPE

    TIMINGS ⏰
Canelo Alvarez’s big fight with Caleb Plant will take place on Saturday, November 6 – TONIGHT!
The fight will emanate from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
There should be close to 15,000 fans in attendance at the huge event.
Canelo vs Plant will get underway in the early hours of Sunday, November 7 for fans in the UK, with ring-walks set for around 4am GMT.
    MAIN CARD 📋

Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant – super-middleweight
Anthony Dirrell vs Marcos Hernandez – super-middleweight
Rey Vargas vs Leonardo Baez – super bantamweight
Elvis Rodriguez vs Juan Pablo Romero – super-lightweight

    THE PERFECT PUNCH
BT Sport have posted a clip on their Twitter account revisiting Canelo’s incredible sixth round KO against Amir Khan back in 2016.
Alvarez beat Khan comfortably to claim his 47th professional win and retain his WBC and The Ring middleweight titles.
The blow has been called ‘the perfect punch’ and left the Brit looking well and truly dazed on the canvas at the T-Mobile Arena, unable to continue.
The KO is a perfect example of Canelo’s danger as a ‘counterpuncher’, catching Khan with a formidable blow just as he was gearing up for a swing of his own.
Canelo Alvarez’s KO of Amir Khan is iconic 📸It’s been called a perfect punch 👊It’s downright terrifying 😳It’s even better in slow-mo 😱#CaneloPlant | Tonight | BT Sport Box Office pic.twitter.com/MXoHwGYrxe— Boxing on BT Sport 🥊 (@BTSportBoxing) November 6, 2021

    CANELO 🗣
The Mexican is supremely confident this week.
Alvarez has said: “You are not on my level and you will see on November 6. You don’t want to fight now, I promise you.
“We come from nothing and we worked hard to be here. For somebody to lie and talk trash about us, that upset Eddy. It is what it is though. We just have to show everyone who we are on November 6.
“Caleb might be on the same level as Saunders and Smith, but he’s not on my level. I respect that he isn’t here to back down. You can see from today that this is definitely going to be a good fight.”
    CANELO’S PLANS 🤔
Assuming Alvarez beats Plant and ends his streak with all four 168lbs belts in his grasp, the opportunities to have mega-fights from thereon would be near endless.
Alvarez is a huge star in the U.S. and Mexico and can continue to fight on pay-per-view, as a free agent, for the rest of his career, if he wanted.
If Alvarez were to stick around with PBC and Showtime for a while, a big-money fight with Jermall Charlo, the current WBC middleweight champion, would make sense.
There’s also former champion at super-middleweight and rising star David Benavidez to possibly contend with.
With DAZN, however, there’s still a potential trilogy fight with Golovkin to explore, with the Kazakh fighter still feeling begrudged about the results in their first two fights.
Otherwise Alvarez could revisit the light-heavyweight division, where’s previously been the WBO champion after beating Kovalev in 2019.
Current WBC and IBF champ Artur Beterbiev would arguably represent the toughest test of Alvarez’s career, as he boasts a menacing 100% KO ratio, the only titleholder in boxing to have that under his belt.
Or there’s WBA champion Dimitry Bivol, a route that seems the more likely, given his relationship with promoter Eddie Hearn, whom Alvarez is closely aligned with.
    TITLE FIGHT NO. 19
Canelo will take part in his 19th world title fight tonight against Caleb Plant and has a very impressive record so far.
The 31-year-old Mexican has only ever lost one title fight, which was against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013.
The solitary draw came against Gennady Golovkin in 2017.
But Canelo won the rematch a year later to claim the WBA (Super), WBC, and The Ring middleweight titles.
He has since defended his belts on six occasions, most recently against Billy Joe Saunders in May this year.

    HOW TO WATCH 📺
Alvarez’s clash with Plant will be shown live on BT Sport Box Office in the UK.
You can live stream the action from the BT Sport Box Office app, which is available for download onto your mobile or tablet device.
The event will set you back £19.95.
    GOOD EVENING!
Hello there and welcome to SunSport’s coverage of Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant – the winner of which will claim the undisputed crown in the super-middleweight division tonight.
Alvarez was last in action back in May, when he TKO’d Billy Joe Saunders in the 8th round of their title clash in Texas.
Plant has had to wait a little longer for this fight, having not fought since January, when he outpointed Caleb Truax.
The Nashville fighter won his first world title in 2019, beating Venezuelan Jose Uzcategui, and has since defended it three times.
Alvarez is on a hot streak of wins following his draw with Gennady Golovkin back in 2017.
He’s since beaten Golovkin, Rocky Fielding, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Avni Yildirim and Saunders, becoming a four-weight world champion in the process.
Plant’s IBF title at 168lbs represents the final piece of Alvarez’s jigsaw, which could see the Mexican crowned as his country’s first ever undisputed champion.
Alvarez and Plant had originally planned to clash back in September, but negotiations fell through before a solution was found weeks later.
The fight will be held on Showtime pay-per-view in the U.S., which will be the first time Alvarez hasn’t fought on DAZN stateside since 2018.
A win for either fighter would crown the second undisputed champion in 2021, after Josh Taylor picked up all the belts at 140lbs in his win over Jose Ramirez back in May.
So sit back and relax, we’ve got you covered this evening and all throughout the night.
