Canelo Alvarez could move up to Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua’s HEAVYWEIGHT division, claims Eddie Hearn

POUND-FOR-POUND superstar Canelo Alvarez could move up to HEAVYWEIGHT in the future, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has claimed. The 31-year-old Mexican recently stopped IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant to become the undisputed king at 168lbs.
Canelo has already won world titles in four different weight classesCredit: Getty
Fury is widely recognised as the best heavyweight in the worldCredit: Getty
Canelo has also won titles at light-middleweight, middleweight and light-heavyweight.
And on Thursday the possibility of him jumping up to cruiserweight shocked the sport as the WBC ordered a fight between Alvarez and champion Ilunga Makabu.
The 34-year-old Congolese boxer has lost just twice in 30 fights, the most high-profile of which came when he was knocked out by Tony Bellew in 2016.
If that clash was to take place, it would see Canelo jump from 168lbs up to 200lbs.
But Hearn, who has promoted the Mexican’s fights in the past, believes he could even go one further by going all the way up to HEAVYWEIGHT.
Speaking to iFL TV, he said: “I think with Canelo and Eddie Reynoso, they want challenges. They want to dare to be great which is tremendous for the sport.

“The Makabu fight is a cruiserweight fight that would give him another world championship victory, would get a lot of people talking as it did last night, and I think it’s a good option for him.
“I think it’s a dangerous fight. I was speaking to Tony Bellew – who could be looking real good in a few months if this happens – and he said that Makabu is a huge puncher, huge puncher, and very strong.
“I think that when you look at Saul the Golovkin fight is a huge fight financially, a lot of people would want to see that fight. But does that motivate him?
“I think he could become undisputed at 175 and I like that plan. But there is also the cruiserweight division.
“Listen, he could move up and fight at heavyweight. I mean, Usyk’s not a massive heavyweight, Trevor Bryant’s a world champion as well. Can he compete against those guys?
“Cruiserweight first, maybe. But I like the fight against Makabu. I think it’s a dangerous fight, I think it’s an exciting fight and as I said, Saul and Eddie are interested in making history.
“They’re not interested in having normal, boring fights. Every fight has to mean something.”
    MANY OPTIONS
Hearn did not specifically mention Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua as potential opponents for Canelo, but they are two of the biggest names in the heavyweight division.
Fury currently holds the WBC belt, while Joshua rematches Oleksandr Usyk next year as he bids to reclaim the IBF, WBA and WBO straps.
American Bryant is also in the picture as the WBA regular title holder.
Canelo remains the biggest draw in boxing so many fighters are in the queue to face him as he is the most lucrative financial attraction the sport has to offer.
As well as Makabu at cruiserweight and moving up to heavyweight, Canelo could also opt to have a trilogy fight against Gennady Golovkin.
The Kazakh fighter drew with Alvarez in September 2017 before Canelo edged a majority decision 12 months later.
There is also the possibility that Canelo, whose only defeat came at the hands of Floyd Mayweather eight years ago, could face feared light-heavyweight Artur Beterbiev. More

But Shields is now ready to put her money where her mouth is and settle it in the ring and called on Paul’s assistant trainer J’Leon Love to set it up.
She tweeted: “I got 100,000$ of my own money I’ll put up that Jake Paul can’t beat me in sparring! That’s on me!
“Let alone a fight!@JLeonLove tell ya mans I said what’s up! I fight December 11th, he fight the 18th after that we can sparr 6 rounds!
“Best 4 out of 6 rounds! If it last all 6.”

Despite the size disparity, she again hit out at Paul and blasted his record of opponents.
Shields, 26, told Sports Illustrated: “You don’t even have enough accomplishment to even say my name.
“To even speak of me. You’ve never been to the Olympics. What did you make the Olympics on YouTube? That s*** don’t exist. That’s fake.
“When it comes to the real world of boxing, Jake Paul will never be no world champion. He can just keep picking his opponents.”
Shields is unbeaten at 11-0 in the ring, but lost her second MMA fight to take her record in the cage to 1-1.
Paul mocked the result online, but Shields hit back: “Him coming at me, it made him feel better about himself.
“You still suck at boxing. You still don’t have no accomplishments. You still wouldn’t dare get in the same ring with me, let alone spar.
“And, he’s just not even worth wasting my breath. The dude is pathetic.”

‘He wasn’t a man of his word’ – Tyron Woodley rages with Jake Paul over tattoo as YouTuber fighting Tommy Fury instead

TYRON WOODLEY has raged at Jake Paul not being ‘a man of his word’ after the YouTuber snubbed a rematch to face Tommy Fury instead. Woodley was beaten by Paul over eight rounds in August, but beforehand the two made a pre-fight wager.

They bet the loser would have to get the winner’s name tattooed on them.
But in the ring afterwards, Paul agreed to rematch Woodley, so long as the bet was honoured.
It took Woodley a whole month to get ‘I love Jake Paul’ inked on his finger, which ultimately proved too little too late.
He has since hit out at the social media star as he posted a link to their face-to-face sit down which was recorded days before their fight.
Woodley, 39, tweeted: “Watched this for the 1st time! Every single word here happened.
“He got gassed & ran. He didnt want to run it back. He wasnt a man of his word.”

After beating Woodley, Paul turned his attention to Fury, 22, who beat his sparring partner Anthony Taylor, 32, on the undercard.
Recently the American talked down a rematch with Woodley, despite the tattoo reveal.
Paul, 24, told TMZ Sport: “By the time he’d got the tattoo, we’d already moved on to fighting Tommy Fury and making that fight negotiation.
“I don’t think people really wanna see Tyron vs Jake Paul again. He had his chance. He had his chance.”

But this June, Mayweather faced YouTuber Logan Paul, 26, in an extraordinary spectacle bout, giving away TWO STONE in size.
Paul managed to take it the full eight round distance, technically avoiding defeat.
But Mayweather boasted before and after about walking away from the 24-minute ring cameo $100m (£74m) richer.
Despite having no desire to continue professional boxing, the unbeaten great will never lose the passion for making money.

Joshua turned his back on a life of crime to carve out a career as one of Britain’s most successful ever boxers.
The 32-year-old former world champion, who delved deep into his pockets to help keep amareur boxing afloat during the coronavirus crisis, remains fiercely ambitious and wants to become a billionaire.
He said in one interview: “When I first started, the aim was to become a multi-millionaire. But now there are ordinary people, grandmas and grandads, who are worth millions just because of property prices.
“So the new school of thought is that I need to be a billionaire. Being a millionaire is good but you have to set your sights higher.”
But it is not only himself he hopes to help with his cash – the fighter has raised money for numerous charities such as Key4Life, Forever Hope and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital among others.
AJ also likes the jet-set lifestyle and meeting fans around the world, recently spending time training in America searching for a coach, as well assembling a brilliant car collection.

The Watford-born boxer paid himself a dividend of £3.166m after the company made £15.6m between March 2020 and the end of February this year.
After paying a £2.3m corporation tax bill and other creditors he was left with a profit of £9.7m for the year.
Because of the pandemic Joshua fought just one bout against Kubrat Pulev in December 2020 in front of a crowd of just 1,000 at the O2 Arena in south east London.
Accounts show the bout made £7.2m compared to his fight income of £57.4m the previous year.
But his sponsorship income rose from £2.25m to £3.5m over the year.
The report said: “The bouts divisions declined due to the restrictions of Covid-19, which is in line with the directors expectations.
“The sponsorship and endorsements division turnover has increased by 28 per cent from 2020 to 2021.”

The accounts also said that the pandemic had impacted Joshua’s ability to ‘train and fight’.
But the report said that the company was also looking to improve the figures for next year, saying: “The group is currently undertaking research and development to improve its bout income and sponsorship income from the provision of the fighter’s professional boxing services and image rights.”
Joshua was being lined up for a potentially lucrative heavyweight world championship bout with Tyson Fury, but those plans hit problems earlier this year when he lost to Oleksander Uysk.
He is now hoping to reclaim the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight titles when he rematches the Ukrainian next year.
