      Whyte pulled out of an October bout with Otto Wallin but a potential clash with Fury has been simmering for several months.
      A war of words between the former sparring partners has been growing since Fury’s knock-out defence of his title against Deontay Wilder.
      The 33-year-old champ stopped his American rival in the 11th round of their Las Vegas trilogy fight.
      Fury then had a window of 30 days to set up a blockbuster undisputed clash with Oleksandr Usyk.
      The Ukrainian snatched Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight titles back in September and is set to face a rematch with the Brit early next year.
      There had been talk of AJ stepping aside to allow the two champions to meet in the ring.

      Fury’s brother Tyson declared last month how Tommy could beat the former Disney actor with broken ribs, a busted left hand, two left foot and the flu.
      But TNT has had to pull out after injuring himself in sparring, where he revealed that he ‘wasn’t able to breathe’.
      Fury is now hoping that he and Paul can agree fresh terms on a new fight in 2022, something his American rival is now reluctant to do.
      Paul, who will now face Tyron Woodley in a rematch in Florida later this month, has lashed out at Fury and his family.

      Paul continued: “He has never accomplished anything himself. The only reason he is anything is because of his brother.
      “He’s had a silver spoon in his mouth for his entire life. He has got fame from his brother.
      “He has never had a real opponent. His opponents were all meant to lose.
      “I’m a scary guy to fight – the [trash talk], the pressure. All of this? He cracked and tried to find a way out.
      “I truly believe that.”

      Paul continued: “He has done a terrible job of promoting the fight. He’s [Tommy] not as hyped as what everyone thought.
      “I don’t like them. I don’t like anything to do with the family. They are sketchy, they are shady.
      “I don’t really see a reason to go and come back next year and give him that big of an opportunity and that big of a pay day.
      “It would almost be more fun and more satisfying for me to just leave him in the dust and make him fight until he’s 25-0 if he gets that far to get the same pay day that he was getting in his eighth fight.”

      Tommy’s older brother Tyson Fury, the WBC heavyweight champion, stunned fans with a clip of his brutal training with a medicine ball while calling for his dad John to break his rib on November 19.
      That came ten days after Fury posted this video of him pushing Tommy through the same gruelling exercise with the medicine ball.
      Tyson then revealed to Unibet on November 25 that both he and Tommy had suffered broken ribs after being asked about the tough training clip he shared.
      The Gypsy King said: “I actually think I’ve fractured one of my ribs – but you can’t do anything for a broken rib. It’s just painful, that’s all.

      Of course, it’s only speculation whether those injuries were the same as those that have forced the ex-Love Islander out of action.
      And Tommy did claim that he suffered his broken rib in sparring preparing for Paul.
      Speaking on social media, he said: “Training camp couldn’t have gone any better for me for the first week or two but then I contracted a bacterial chest infection which led me to go to the gym and not being able to breathe.
      “My sparring sessions, pad work sessions, whatever it may be I wasn’t able to breathe and I was coughing up huge amounts of phlegm all the time.
      “It led me to sleepless nights and that went on for four weeks. I had the mind-set of, ‘I’m going to train, I’m going to get through this, I’m going to fight no matter what’.
      ‘SOMETHING WASN’T RIGHT’
      “Four weeks passed and we decided to have a sparring session and I took a little clip to the body and because my body was so weak due to the virus, I instantly knew something wasn’t right.
      “I was throwing up from the pain, I was doubled over. I literally got my bag and went straight to the hospital for an MRI scan and got the results back the same day.
      “The results showed I had a clean break and I had multiple fractures. For the following week I still thought I could fight but then it took the doctor and my whole team to say you can’t fight.
      “Even now it hasn’t sunk in that I’m not fighting. My only focus is getting a new fight date set and recovering.
      “I can’t do anything else apart from get my body right as quickly as possible and look for a new fight date with Jake Paul.
      “There is no other fight out there, that’s the fight I want next and hopefully we can work out a new date for next year.”
      Fury also shared an image of an x-ray to prove the legitimacy of his injury.

      Paul will instead fight Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August bout after he questioned the legitimacy of ‘scared’ Tommy’s injuries.

      The 24-year-old told talkSPORT: “I was upset. A lot of stuff had been said and I wanted to knock him out. I wanted to make him bleed and eat the canvas.
      “That is the most satisfying part when your opponent has a lot to say and you just knock them out and embarrass them in front of the whole world. 
      “I’m a little bit p****d off I’m not able to do that. The kid is scared. The kid cracked under pressure.
      “The whole fight build-up got to him and now he fumbled the biggest opportunity of his life, the biggest pay day of his life.
      “He’s going to have to return all the Christmas presents he got Molly as he has no way of paying for them.”
      Fury still plans to fight, and beat, his American rival in 2022 – but Paul has cast doubt on that.
      ‘NOT RELIABLE’
      He said: “The door is closing (for Tommy Fury). He’s not reliable. He didn’t show up to the first press conference. He’s faking these injuries or whatever they are.
      “It’s upsetting. So if he’s doing that now, then what is stopping him from doing it next year.
      “For me, in a cynical way, I just want to leave him in the dust and never give him this opportunity again.”
      Paul will instead fight Tyron Woodley in a rematch of their August bout.
      The ex-UFC star is already in training and was offered an extra £377,000 if he secures a revenge knockout.
