The WBC heavyweight champ’s trilogy with rival Deontay Wilder was contested in front of raucous crowds at Los Angeles’ Staples Center and Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden and the T-Mobile Arena.
The Gypsy King’s clashes with Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin at the latter two arenas, however, were only attended by 9,012 and 8,249 fans respectively.
And those poor attendances have left PBC chief Smith believing the burly Brit needs a good dance partner to sell out arenas.
He said: “You know, hey God bless Tyson Fury.
“But nobody’s coming to see Tyson Fury as a gate attraction unless he’s fighting Deontay Wilder, no one.
“You know, maybe in England if he fights Anthony Joshua, that’ll be a gate attraction. You know, maybe if he fights Usyk over there, it’s a gate attraction.

“But in America, who’s coming to see Tyson Fury fight anyone other than Deontay Wilder?”
Fury won’t have to worry about selling out arenas if his proposed grudge match with Dillian Whyte takes place in the UK.
The WBC have ordered the former lineal heavyweight champ to defend his title against his old sparring partner later this year.
Purse bids for the Battle of Britain were due to take place this week but have been pushed back until January 18 to allow further negotiations between the two parties.
During an appearance on talkSPORT, Queensberry Promotions chief Frank Warren said: “First of all, the purse bid’s been pushed back by a week now.
“That was done [Saturday], so the purse bid will be seven days after so I think it’s next Monday or Tuesday.
“As regarding the split, of course, they’re entitled to an appeal. I don’t think they’ll get anywhere because purse bids are based upon boxers’ previous earnings.
“Tyson’s last purse that [was] lodged with the WBC was £20million and Dillian Whyte’s purse was £300,000, that’s why it’s at the split it’s at.
“A situation in the last year I can think of is when Canelo fought against his mandatory at the time, Billy Joe Saunders, but Billy had just done a deal.
“There was no way he was going to get any 45 per cent of a purse because the guy who generates the most money out of the two of them is Canelo.”

Warren added: “Certainly when you’ve got a heavyweight generating the money that Tyson’s generating, there’s never gonna be that kind of split.
“That is not something that’s new, this has been this way for over 25 years at least. Most of the organisations operate this way and that’s what it is.
“They can make their appeal, nobody would in any way from our perspective say you can’t do that, but fact of the matter is I don’t think it will make a difference.”

But the punishment the duo have taken in their recent fights has done little to make Holmes believe they could hang with his generation of heavyweights.
During an interview with Fight Hub TV, he said of the pair: “They don’t have no skills.
“They don’t know how to throw one, two and move out to protect yourself.
“The fighters today are not the fighters when I fought. We fought the top 10, we didn’t duck nobody.
“Today these guys don’t want to fight – you want to make some money, you’ve got to bring it to them, you’ve got to make these guys fight.”
Holmes’ opinion is in part based on Fury’s epic back-and-forth with Deontay Wilder last October, in which The Gypsy King was dropped twice.

Despite not watching the entirety of the fight, Holmes said: “They had a good fight. It was a good fight for them.
“They throw punches [from their waist] for a jab, you don’t throw like that for a jab, you throw straight!
“You have to throw the punch straight because then they can’t hit you – they don’t know how to throw one-twos, they don’t protect themselves.
“You know what? I had my day, I had fun with what I did.”
The normally elusive and fleetfooted Fury took a lot more punishment in hs trilogy fight with Wilder than fight fans are used to seeing.
And Holmes believes the WBC heavyweight champ’s movement isn’t a patch on how he evaded punches back in the day.
He continued: “Fury can’t move like Larry Holmes – you’ve got to give punches, you shouldn’t take punches.
“And that’s what he does, he takes punches, I guess that’s what he wanted to do, prove to people that he can take a punch.

“The game of boxing is hit and don’t get hit.”
Fury is currently gearing up for a Battle of Britain with former sparring partner Dillian Whyte on March 26, although negotiations over the long-awaited grudge match are still being finalised.
Joshua, meanwhile, is preparing for an April rematch with unified heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk.

Canelo’s shock bid to become a five-weight world champion, however, has seemingly gone cold.
And according to boxing journalist Mike Coppinger, a long-awaited showdown with Charlo on Cinco De Mayo weekend is now ‘more likely’ for the Mexican.
During an appearance on ESPN, Coppinger said: “I’m hearing it’s much more likely he’ll fight Jermall Charlo on Cinco de Mayo.
“There are talks right now for that fight.”
Canelo created history in November by knocking out Caleb Plant to become the first undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world.
And Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza recently revealed the 31-year-old is open to facing Charlo next.

He told ES News: “For my money, the two most interesting fights for Canelo next are Jermall Charlo and David Benavidez or David Benavidez and Jermall Charlo.
“We’ve certainly mentioned those to Team Canelo, and there is interest.
“We’ve seen this year that Canelo has stayed busy.
“I would expect that he’ll roll into his next fight pretty quickly.”
The undefeated Charlo, the older twin brother of light-middleweight champ Jermell, has called out Canelo on a number of occasions down the years.
And he did so again after seeing him stop Caleb Plant in the 11th round of the undisputed showdown.
He told Fight Hype: “I’ll go to Mexico and fight Canelo at his house.
“Ronnie (Shields), Ronnie, Ronnie, will we not fight Canelo at his house?

And last month, he told his 469,000 Instagram followers: “I wish I could give you the Canelo Álvarez fight for Christmas, but I can’t.

Snaps of a 12-year-old AJ during his time at a Nigerian boarding school show just how skinny he was before he began his sporting journey.
After years of athletics training, Joshua eventually took up boxing in 2007 thanks to his cousin and fellow pro Ben Ileyemi.
And the rigorous strength and condition training he supplemented his boxing with had a profound effect on his physique.
Joshua looked unrecognisable from the bean pole kid that spent time at the Mayflower Boarding School in Ikenne when he made his pro debut aged 18.
In an interview with Vogue, he said of his time at boarding school: “I spent about nine months in a boarding school.

“None of that, it’s either doctor or lawyer, simple. So education is important in Nigerian schools and especially in a boarding school.”
He later added: “Discipline; so tomorrow through your mistake, you’re not going to make the same mistake again, so that’s why I believe mistakes are good.”
His transformations have continued throughout his much-talked-about career.
AJ weighed a career-heavy 18 stone for his October 2017 victory over Carlos Takam but trimmed considerably two years later for his do-or-die rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr, tipping the scales at 16 stone and 13lbs.
He did, however, put some size back on for his ill-fated defence against Oleksandr Usyk last September, weighing in at smidgen over 17 stone.
The Watford warrior is currently preparing for a crunch rematch with the Ukrainian southpaw, who put on a masterclass in their Tottenham tussle.
The bout was initially slated for late March but is now in the works for April.
Promoter Eddie Hearn recently said: “I think April is realistic for that fight.
“Before you know it, it’s going to be February and these fights take a lot of organising.

“For us, the preferred date and venue for that fight will be the UK, in which case we would have to do the fight outside, so we’re not really interested in doing that fight in March.
“AJ has been training relatively solidly since the fight.
“Realistically if you start your training camp in February, even April becomes quite tight but that is the preferred date for the fight and I think that’s realistic.”
