But only after flooring the brave Commey in round seven and pleading with his corner to throw in the towel and rescue him from a savaging.
When Commey’s corner refused to rescue their man after a left hook folded him, Loma took his foot off the gas and coasted to a decision win.
Lomachenko said: “I saw his situation and it was very hard for him,and that’s why I said, ‘hey, stop the fight.’
“He is a true warrior. He has a big heart and we continued and showed the people 12 great rounds.”
Loma, 33, is rebuilding his reputation after a shock points loss to Teofimo Lopez in October 2020 and handpicked Commey as a former opponent of Lopez.

The two-time Olympic champ failed to land the highlight reel stoppage Lopez achieved back in 2019, but totally dominated the 34-year-old Ghana warrior.
The judges called it 117-110, 119-108, 119-108, leaving Loma free to target an undisputed match with George Kambosos Jr after the Australian stunned Lopez in November to claim the IBF, WBA and WBO belts.
And on this performance, southpaw star Loma will have no fear of facing the 28-year-old in front of 80,000 of his own fans in a stadium Down Under.
Lomachenko said: “In this weight division we have a lot of great fighters. We have a lot of top fighters so we can organise a lot of great fights in the future.
“I will go anywhere I need to go to fight Kambosos because I need this chance, and if God gives me this chance I’ll take it.”

Commey beat the count but was staggering on very unsteady legs.
Lomachenko shouted at Commey’s corner mid round to pull him out but they decided against it.
The fight then went 12 rounds but Lomachenko looked like a man with his foot off the gas for the final rounds with his man well beaten.

    ROUND 12
Lomachenko targeting the body more in the final round. Does certainly seem to be aiming less to Commey’s head since the seventh round.
    The final bell rings…
We go to the judges, but there is only one very dominant winner here.
    ROUND 11
Lomachenko again bosses that one but fighting with such less ferociousness as he did earlier.
Will he let Commey see the final bell?
We go into the 12th – and FINAL – round!
    ROUND 10
Another dominant round for Lomachenko there.
Commey is steady on his legs now but he’s miles behind.

    ROUND NINE
Commey letting more shots go in the ninth, he seems to have recovered his legs.
Lomachenko definitely not fighting with the same snap as he did in the first seven rounds.
Intriguing contest here as we head into the 10th round.
    ROUND EIGHT
Commey is still here in the fight, but he seems off the pace after that woeful seventh round.
Lomachenko moving about well but he’s lowered his velocity in this round too with the events of the last round still in the front of his mind.
Doctors again look at Commey but deem him fine to head out for the ninth round.
    ROUND SEVEN
Incredible scenes here in the seventh round!
Lomachenko DROPPED Commey with a sharp left. The Ghanaian made the referee’s count but is still clearly on unsteady legs.
Lomachenko even pleaded with Commey’s corner to pull him out but they kept him in.
The referee and doctors look at Commey before the eighth round, and both have deemed him ok to continue.
    ROUND SIX
Lomachenko backs Commey up against the ropes but can’t land that big shot on his opponent.
Sensational speed from Lomachenko but yet again Commey connects with a couple of jabs to let him know he’s more than still in this.
We head into round seven and the second half of this one.
    ROUND FIVE
Scrapier round there in the fifth, with Commey having a few moments of success after the clinch.
But Lomachenko connected with the punch of the round with a looping right.
Another big smile emerges across Commey’s face as we enter the sixth round.
    ROUND FOUR
Loma trying to open gaps in Commey’s defence still with another strong round in the bag.
He’s moving nicely around the ring, but Commey is certainly not out of this one yet, not by a long shot!
We enter the fifth round at Madison Square Garden.
    ROUND THREE
HUGE straight left from Lomachenko in the third round – that’s the punch of the fight so far.
It jolts Commey’s head back but he takes it well and maintains his stance in the middle of the ring.
Loma showing incredible speed now as we head into the fourth.
    ROUND TWO
Warming up nicely this one with Lomachenko starting to find his rhythm.
Loma showing incredible speed in the second round, connecting to the head and body to rock Commey against the ropes.
But the ever dangerous Commey is always there too right in Loma’s face.
    ROUND ONE
“Loma, Loma, Loma” rings around Madison Square Garden.
But that was a cagey opener from the Ukrainian star.
Commey landed a couple power lefts as the Matrix tries to work his man out.
    We go into the second!
    LOMACHENKO VS COMMEY
The pair touch gloves in the middle of the ring.

Watch as Conor Benn secures vicious stoppage win against Chris Algieri with contender for knockout of the year

CONOR BENN blasted out respected American veteran Chris Algieri with a KO of the year contender for his 20th pro win.The 25-year-old had already dropped the 37-year-old with a cuffing blow in the second, almost knocking him out into the VIP seats.
This was the stunning right hand that ended the fight for Conor Benn
The referee gave the count – but there wasn’t any need to as Algieri was out cold

But he waited until the fourth, after showing off his growing defensive skills, to obliterate the tough visitor with a rocket of a right hand.
The only three defeats on Algieri’s impressive record came on points against Filipino legend Manny Pacquio and Amir Khan, as well as a KO loss to heavy handed Errol Spence Jr.
So Benn has sent out yet another warning that he is rapidly approaching world title contention.
Algieri was booed into the ring by the UK crowd that has taken Conor to their hearts thanks to the exploits of two-weight world champ dad Nigel.
The taller veteran raced across the ring as soon as the bell started the fight but a couple of clubbing Benn rights soon had his boxing more cautiously.
The crowd loved it when the Brit sunk down onto his haunches and evaded punches like his father did in his pomp.

But they were concerned for a split second when Algieri landed a flush left hook that would have impressed the judges but Benn’s chin has improved as drastically as his boxing skills.
In the second the Essex father-of-one slashed hooks into Algieri’s long torso but the New Yorker shook his head in defiance when Benn tried to ram a one-two through his high guard.
But a peach of a left hook at the end of the session almost knocked Algieri out of the ring.
The Destroyer caught him off guard with a perfectly timed dig and he barrelled into a forward roll that almost took him out of the ropes but he beat the count and made it to the bell.
Benn looked excellent in the third, landing three-punch combinations of straights and hooks and defending, at times, like a stand-out amateur.
Conor Benn, pictured with boxing legend dad Nigel, is ready to fight for world titles
Algieri was hurt in the fourth by a right hand to his gut but his incredible conditioning for a middle-aged man helped him handle the blow.
But the right hand that smashed into his skull seconds later could not be coped with.
The jab teed it up and then a piledriver of a straight right demolished Algieri’s guard and his senses.
The brave American went out on his feet and slumped forward.
And Benn showed great control in the split second where he had another chance to leather the stricken man as he fell to the canvas.
Thankfully for Algieri, Benn pulled that punch just at the right time, allowing him to fall to the floor without a follow-up assault.
Algieri was floored in the second round, and only last another two
And he was able to recover and exchange pleasantries once he had regained his shaken senses.
Speaking after his stunning victory, Conor growled: “These fights are not tests, it is not arrogance it is confidence.
“What more do I have to do? Maybe I just frustrate myself but you don’t get the rankings I have for nothing.
“I put him to sleep and you should not expect anything else. I knew the knockout was coming.”
And proud father and boxing legend Nigel added: “This is the fight where Conor made his own path, he is not in my shadow any more.
“I have watched him in training doing 15 x four-minute rounds with 30-second rests so I knew it would not go the distance.
“It was unbelievable and he is going all the way.”
It was an easy night’s work for one of boxing’s brightest talents More

    What have they said?
Lomachenko said: “It is always special when I fight at Madison Square Garden, where so many great moments in my career have taken place.
“Richard Commey is a former world champion, an opponent I will not underestimate. I expect the best version of Commey, and I will be prepared for whatever he brings on December 11.”
“It is only fitting that the great Lomachenko headlines boxing’s highly anticipated return to Madison Square Garden,” said Top Rank chairman Bob Arum.
“However, Richard Commey can never be counted out, as he’s a tough fighter who carries huge power in both hands.” More

Tyron Woodley ROCKED Jake Paul in their first fight
The Problem Child defeated Woodley, 39, on points back in August, though question marks remain with Woodley rocking Paul for the first time in his career.

“People just need to realise how serious I take this and how a lot of these other professional fighters don’t train as hard as me.
“They’re not as prepared as me. And like, Tommy Fury, he pulled out of the fight because of some silly, little thing. I’ve fought with a broken nose. I’ve fought sick. The list goes on.

Jake Paul vs Tyron Woodley 2 takes place on Saturday, December 18.

Fury said: “I am absolutely heartbroken that I have been forced to withdraw from my fight with Jake Paul due to a bacterial chest infection and broken rib.
“The beginning of my camp was going so incredibly and I never expected anything to come in my way from a victory on December 18.

Watch as Conor Benn secures vicious stoppage victory against Chris Algieri with contender for knockout of the year

“I have watched him in training doing 15 x four-minute rounds with thirty-second rests so I knew it would not go the distance.
“It was unbelievable and he is going all the way.”
It was an easy night’s work for one of boxing’s brightest talents More

Here we go! The fight is underway!
    DANGEROUS
Conor Benn out with his West Ham-themed robe and shorts. We’re just a couple of minutes away from the action.
    Here we go!
    ARGY BARGY
Algieri comes out donning an Adidas Argentine football shirt. Lovely stuff.
    Here comes Benn…
    SWEET CAROLINE
Neil Diamond’s cult classic ringing out around the arena now as Chris Algieri makes his way through the back for his ring-walk.
    Moments away.
    UP NEXT
Conor Benn takes on Chris Algieri in a really important fight for the welterweight division in the UK.
    KATIE TAYLOR WINS!!
The judges turn in scores of 98-92, 97-92, 96-93. And still the undisputed lightweight champion, Katie Taylor!
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 9
Sharipova starts the final stanza very quickly, unleashing plenty of punches on the inside.
Taylor puts the ear-muffs up but Sharipova continues to fire away and the fight becomes a little sloppy.
Taylor then lands a nice right hand on the inside before Sharipova pumps out a nice jab.
Taylor finishes the round well in a good fight. 7-3 Katie?
    Judges scorecards to come.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 9
Fight has slowed down a lot toward the back end of the contest.
Taylor gets on the inside and lands a left hand again but Sharipova looks to come back with an attack of her own.
Taylor once again jabbing and landing on the inside, winning the penultimate round of the fight.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 8
Sharipova looks like she knows she needs to win the final few rounds as Taylor continues to box well.
A fight with Amanda Serrano next year awaits Taylor should she win? But has her performance so far been as impressive as she’d have liked?
The 35-year-old has been in some tough wars throughout her career and isn’t looking her crispest tonight.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 7
Sharipova looks like she’s staring to tire there as Taylor begins to pull away from her opponent.
Taylor tries to make her way in but she falls in short and Andy Lee on comms calls for her to use her jab.
Sharipova continues to be awkward in there and the referee pulls them together to tell them to stop leading with their heads.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 6
Sharipova has a point taken away for hitting on the break, which is a little harsh to be honest.
They get back to boxing and Taylor wins some quick exchanges on the inside, landing a left hand to the body.
Sharipova comes forward again but Taylor dances in on the inside again and lands big shots.
Taylor holds when she gets in while Sharipova tries to break through and land something meaningful. Good fight.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 5
Good round for Taylor but Sharipova doesn’t look bothered at all.
Taylor shows her class with some brilliant boxing and her opponent looks to have lost a little bit of her early snap.
Ebanie Bridges ringside says: “Taylor’s winning but considering Sharipova hasn’t been at this level, she’s performing well.”
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 4
Taylor with more of her speed in the fourth but she’s making a little harder for herself in there by engaging so much.
Sharipova more than happy to fight fire with fire but Taylor gets the better of the exchanges.
Taylor’s trainer calls for more right hands but the Irishwoman is having success from mid-range as it is.
    3-1 Taylor.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 3
Taylor asked to increase the tempo by her trainer. Taylor opens up with a combination but Sharipova comes right back.
Decent action in the third as Taylor looks to use her speed to better affect.
Taylor looks like she’s setting up for the right hand and is a little busier in there.
    2-1 Taylor.
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 2
Hand speed from Taylor early on in the second but Sharipova lands a nice right hand.
Good shot there from the Kazakh, she’s well positioned with her feet. Taylor has to be careful she doesn’t pull out of the exchanges with her chin in the air.
Not a bad round from the challenger.
    1-1, perhaps?
TAYLOR VS SHARIPOVA – ROUND 1
Sharipova comes out aggressively but I’ve to stop to say – this Liverpool crowd is absolutely on fire.
Taylor trying to manage the distance early as her opponent gets to work on the jab.
Taylor lands a nice check-hook, then goes for a right hand but is brought into a clinch by Sharipova.
Speed difference evident so far. Quite an even first round.
    THERE SHE GOES AGAIN!
There She Goes by The La’s ring out here in Liverpool as Taylor makes her way to the ring.
It’s absolutely belted out by the thousands in attendance.
    Nearly showtime.

KATIE TAYLOR continues her undisputed lightweight queen reign after the 20th win of her professional career over Firuza Sharipova. The 35-year-old Ireland icon outpointed the 27-year-old Kazak challenger, who claimed to idolise her growing up but tried to rough-house and bully her in Liverpool.
Katie Taylor remains the undisputed lightweight champ
Taylor eased to a points victory against Sharipova in Liverpool
After Sharipova was docked a point for hitting on the break, the judges scored it 98-92, 97-92 and 96-93 to the 2012 Olympic winner.
And after the fight her promoter Eddie Hearn revealed he is ‘100 per cent’ ready to thrash out terms for Taylor to fight fellow great and seven-weight champ Amanda Serrano.
The Irish contingent that had flocked to the Merseyside arena went wild when Taylor made her ring walk to La’s classic ‘There She Goes’.
Taylor instantly looked too talented for her Kazak slugger who clearly planned on being more rugged and aggressive.
The first two-minute round went by in a flash, with a couple of Taylor jabs catching the eye as Sharipova looked to manhandle her sporting hero.
Four rapid straight punches at the start of the second shocked Sharipova back toward the ropes.
Sharipova was deducted a point for holding in the fight

And Taylor enjoyed making the younger underdog miss, using her youthful enthusiasm against her like many great masters.
In the third Taylor landed a flush left hook that shook Sharipova and got a great roar from the crowd.
And the same partisan section booed at the end of the session when Sharipova tried to clip her just after the bell.
Sharipova kept marching forward and trying to unsettle the champion but she was regularly punished with rapid combinations.
In the fourth the visitor had her braided head rocked back but a couple of pinpoint shots but she remained upright.
At times it became scrappy in the co-main event in Liverpool
By the fifth, Sharipova’s cheekbones were pink and puffy while red-hot Taylor was fully in her groove as she racked up rounds with the judges.
In the sixth Sharipova whacked Taylor after ref John Latham had ordered them to break, so she was docked a point and knew for sure she needed a knockout win now.
Taylor was sensible in the second half of the fight, totting up rounds without risking her four major belts and frustrating her bullish opponent.
Sharipova went for broke in the final round but was too crude to unlock Taylor’s defence as the champ continued her dominance of the sport.
Taylor, who is now focused on getting a super-fight made with seven-weight champ Serrano, said: “She was tough, I was well aware of the challenge, she had a good amateur pedigree. But it went exactly the way we planned.
“She was very scrappy, but 20 fights, 20 wins, still undisputed and still undefeated, I cannot complain.
“This is pro boxing, this is exactly what it’s all about, we knew it could be scrappy. I’m happy to come out with another win, it was the 15th defence of my world title.
“It was a great year, this prepares us for all the big fights next year that we’ve mentioned, Jessica McCaskill, Amanda Serrano, we’re ready for a big 2022.
“This is why I’m involved in boxing, the Serrano fight will be the biggest fight ever in female boxing. MSG, the mecca of boxing, I’ve had the privilege of fighting there twice as a pro, in the most iconic stadium, it’s more than a dream.”
