AJ was comfortably beaten by Usyk in September and had his WBA, WBO and IBF belts snatched off of him.
But the Brit swiftly triggered a rematch clause and his promoter Hearn said it will be in the first few months of 2022 – despite talk of AJ stepping aside.
The Matchroom chief told iFL TV: “We’ve got to get together and decide a date.
“April is realistic for that fight.
“AJ is the type that fights twice-a-year, and sometimes we feel like it would be nice to fight three times-a-year.
“We’ve had offers from around the world, but I think the UK will stage that fight.”

Dillian Whyte has been called as mandatory for Fury’s WBC belt which Hearn says ended all talks of AJ stepping aside to allow Fury and Usyk to meet next.
The Essex-based 42-year-old added: “We have to sit down with [Usyk’s manager] Alex Krassyuk.
“We’ll get Christmas out of the way and we’ll start moving forward with that because it’s time to start planning.
“Obviously, there were a couple of discussions about step asides and those kinds of fights so we’ll have to see.
“But that looks very unlikely now because of the Whyte situation, which AJ is pleased about.

“He didn’t want to have those conversations unless I presented them to him.
“So if that’s not the case, he moves forward with what he wants, which is the Usyk rematch.
“Once the Whyte fight was called, really, he comes into that situation and he’s got to be respected in that situation as well.”

Jake Paul fight against Conor McGregor would make ‘ridiculous’ money, says UFC star Dan Hardy after talks

The YouTuber turned boxer has called out a number of the biggest stars in the UFC, with rumours swirling over a fight with the ‘Notorious’ McGregor.
Paul even revealed earlier this month that his team and McGregor’s ‘talk constantly’ regarding a potential bout.
And Hardy reckons a fight between the pair would rake in an unbelievable amount of cash.
As reported by the Mail, Hardy said: “It would make so much money it would be ridiculous.
“You’ve got two guys that have got their own audience, and an audience that is massive as well in their own right.
“The only thing for me would be the size difference, that’s the only thing that would affect the sellability of the fight,
“But then with Conor having such a big personality and him looking like the Hulk at the moment, I think it’s definitely something that’s sellable.”

Hardy also went on to claim that a bout between Paul and McGregor would reel in more viewers than a UFC heavyweight world title fight.
He added: “I think people are more interested in the individuals in the fight than what they are actually fighting for.
“If Jake Paul fought Conor McGregor, more people would watch that than the UFC heavyweight title.”
Paul is understood to have bagged almost $20million dollars (£15m) from boxing alone – and that’s before he brutally knocked out Tyron Woodley on December 18.
McGregor meanwhile fought twice in the UFC in 2021 – scooping a guaranteed $6million (£4.4m) from fights alone in this calendar year.
The Irishman’s total earnings, however, would’ve been significantly topped up by whatever additional agreements he has in place with the UFC and his respective cut of pay-per-view points.
So any potential bout between Paul and McGregor is certain to generate a whopping amount of cash. More

Meet British boxing’s brilliant seven who are set to burst on to scene in 2022 including Olympians Yafai and McCormack

BRITISH BOXING’s 2022 diary is already filling up with established names like Liam Williams, Chris Eubank Jr, Josh Taylor Amir Khan and Kell Brook booked – but the new breed will be supporting them.Sky Sports, BT Sport and DAZN all have starlets, prospects and rough diamonds they hope to unleash on us and undercards will be popping with talent and potential.

The delayed 2020 Olympics finally took place in the summer and, while a few of Team GB’s biggest hopes fell slightly short, a whole new generation of talent is about to turn professional.
And SunSport recommends you delay your bar visit, toilet trip or tea break the next time you see one of these names on the bill, inside the arena or on the sofa.
Because these stars are so hot, blink and you might just miss them…
    Caroline Dubois, 20: 0-0
One of the quietest characters in British boxing might be able to make the biggest noise.
Caroline Dubois, now 20, made the quarter-finals at the summer Olympics, three years after taking gold at the youth games.

The right-handed southpaw almost made her pro bow in November before illness sidelined her but Sky Sports will justifiably make a massive deal about this freakish fighting prodigy in 2022 and no women will be safe.
Many experienced trainers, pundits and experts believe heavyweight Daniel’s little sister could be a once-in-a-generation talent capable of eclipsing anything we have seen in the women’s code before.

    Karol Itauma, 21: 5-0
Frank Warren is quietly guiding Kent’s light-heavyweight along and neither man has made a mistake so far.
Itauma won gold in the same Buenos Aires youth games as Caroline Dubois and, although he had little senior amateur experience, he has looked perfect in his first five wins.
Itauma has only faced journeymen so far but those incredibly skilled and experienced men are often the hardest to stop, Slovakia-born Itauma has got three out early.
Don’t expect any trash talk or bragging from this studious star, who has juggled a job in finance with his early fight career.
But do expect the rest of the packed 12st 7lbs division to have nightmares trying to deal with this southpaw.
And keep an eye out for younger brother Enrico making another massive splash in the sport very soon.

    Galal Yafai, 29: 0-0
The younger brother of pro stars Kal and Gamal, 2020 Olympic golden boy Galal made his own name in magnificent fashion in the summer.
With a host of bigger names getting the Team GB attention ahead of him in Tokyo, Yafai was able to quietly and brilliantly go about his business and become an instant hero for Great Britain.
And the no-nonsense Brummie already has plans for sensational fights in the pro ranks with classy Croydon brothers Sunny and Charlie Edwards in his crosshairs.
Yafai came up short in the 2016 Games so has turned over later in life but that should just mean he demands a fasttrack to world titles once he kicks off in 2022.

    Adam Azim, 19: 2-0
It’s been about 25 years since The Office was the best thing to break out of Slough but now we have teenage sensation Azim targeting ribs with punches instead of laughs.
Excellent young trainer Shane McGuigan has taken the reins of the stand-out amateur’s training and that should excite any boxing fan when you look at the coach’s recent body of work with champions like Lawrence Okolie and Josh Taylor.
Azim might not have realised it at the time but having big brother Hassan to spar and wrestle with throughout childhood has probably toughened him up to.
Sky Sports are understandably super-keen on the lightweight so expect to see plenty of him in 2022 but give him plenty of time to grow too.

    Lauren Price, 27: 0-0
The 27-year-old’s middleweight Olympic glory in the summer was one of the feel-good moments of the Games.
The Newport southpaw was raised by the grandparents who helped her become a sensational kickboxer, Cardiff City footballer and eventually boxer.
The hero has already spoken with Eddie Hearn about turning pro and world champion friend Savannah Marshall – who Price beat in the amateurs – reckons she could easily make welterweight in the pro ranks where she could be even more powerful and resilient.

    Mark Chamberlain, 22: 9-0
The BT Sport banger has already blasted out six of his victims early and he has proven to be a lethal body puncher.
At lightweight ‘Mark Boy’ has towered over most of his early opponents but still not tried to bully them or rush his work.
The brutality is measured and calm and clinical.
The Portsmouth lad is another softly spoken assassin who lets his fists do the talking, so you will probably hear the agonising screams of his opponents before you hear Chamberlain chatter.

    Pat McCormack: 26 – 0-0
Tyne and Wear twins Luke and Pat McCormack have rained terror down on the domestic and international amateur scene and shelved dozens of gold and silver medals around the proud family home.
After landing silver at the summer Olympics, Pat and Luke have linked up with top trainer Ben Davison and that means he will be learning alongside champions like Josh Taylor and Lee McGregor every day in the gym.
Pat’s style is expected to make him an almost instant success in the paid ranks so don’t expect him to need many learning bouts – these boys mean business.

British boxing’s seven best performances of 2021 including Yarde’s revenge over Arthur and Taylor’s win vs Ramirez

BRITISH boxing took some knocks in 2021 with brilliant champions like Anthony Joshua, Josh Warrington and Terri Harper losing their crowns – hopefully temporarily.Thankfully there were dozens of eye-catching performances and life-changing results from UK-based fighters to make up for the disappointments.
Anthony Yarde got his revenge over Lyndon Arthur with a rematch win earlier this monthCredit: Richard Pelham / The Sun
SunSport has tried to narrow it down to seven sensational showings and apologies to all the aces that came up trumps in 2021.
Anthony Yarde vs Lyndon Arthur – December 4
Manchester’s Arthur sprang a huge surprise when he jabbed his way to a split decision win over his light-heavyweight foe a year earlier.
There were rows about the rematch, contract disputes, rucks about the rematch location and threats between the two trainers.
When it came down to it, Yarde simply did everything he should have done in the first meeting, blasting his nemesis away inside four rounds.
Arthur had no answer for all the things he and his corner expected Yarde to try.
It was explosive and punishing but also cathartic for the Beast from East London.

David Avanesyan vs Josh Kelly – February 20
Avanesyan left Kelly a bloodied mess before his corner finally threw in the towel in FebruaryCredit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
The Nottinghamshire-based Russian had been well overdue a high-profile dance partner and a coming out party after a string of eye-catching results all over Europe.
The Carl Greaves-trained welterweight had taken on all challenges and accused plenty of big-name 147lbers of ducking him.
When he landed the European title he got the right profile and – after a few Covid-19 delays – the Kelly bout finally arrived.
Kelly was the 2016 Team GB Olympian, Matchroom posterboy and Adam Booth-trained hunk, full of potential.
But plenty of boxing insiders felt Ava was a sleeper who was more than capable of an upset, despite being in the away corner.
But the understated Armenian hardman systematically broke Pretty Boy Kelly down, floored him twice and left him a bloodied mess before Booth rightly pulled his bulldozed man out of the fire.
Felix Cash vs Denzel Bentley – April 24
Cash ripped up the script and brutalised Bentley in just nine minutes in AprilCredit: PA
Tomy Sims-trained Cash had been in a thrilling see-saw fight with beanpole Jake Cullen in 2019 so there were question marks about his true potential.
Bentley – well backed by Frank Warren and BT – was being tipped to kick on from British level so they lured Cash over to their show and put him in the away corner – in an empty York Hall arena.
The general consensus was that it was a 50-50 fight that might ebb and flow and need judges to split them.
But Cash ripped the script out of his hosts’ hands and brutalised Bentley, who is thankfully fresh and bright enough to come again, inside just nine minutes.
It was a defining moment for Cash, who had been hampered by injuries, and should be in thrilling fights or dominant performances in 2022.
Sunny Edwards vs Moruti Mthalane – April 30
Edwards beat Mthalane via unanimous decision in AprilCredit: Reuters
Croydon’s Edwards had long bemoaned the lack of enthusiasm from domestic flyweight fighters to challenge him, so – when he earned his shot at the IBF world title without too many gut checks – it seemed a big step.
Mthalane was a veteran champion and, rarely for such a light division, was considered a dangerous KO puncher who had to be avoided at all costs.
But Edwards boxed beautifully, evading the KO artist and peppering him with enough combinations to score clearly.
At times Edwards made the little York Hall ring look like a football pitch, with his expert movement, but he also traded close up and landed decent punches to take the unanimous decision.
And he proved it was no fluke by recreating a similar performance seven months later when he turned in an almost identical performance to UD Jayson Mama.
Sunny – little brother of ex-world champ Charlie – does lack concussive power but that makes his string of 17 wins all the more impressive as he has to be totally focused for 36 minutes and never afford an error.
Leigh Wood vs Can Xu – July 31
Wood put on a boxing clinic to beat Xu in a shock win in JulyCredit: Mark Robinson Matchroom Boxing
When Leeds hero and former IBF featherweight champion Josh Warrington spent months chasing Can Xu for a unification, it was billed as a dangerous challenge.
China’s WBA boss was a relentless pressure fighter and undefeated Warrington would have to be very wary.
So when Eddie Hearn tempted Xu over to the UK for a warm-up fight in his Essex backgarden against Nottingham’s Wood, few outside Ben Davison’s gym gave the Englishman a chance.
What unfolded from the heavy-handed Brit was a one-sided boxing clinic that looked like it would need the judges as Xu, to his credit, took a pounding.
But Wood found another gear in the 12th to unload another arsenal and force a life-changing longshot stoppage.
The bout with Ireland icon Mick Conlan in 2022 will be a cracker.
Josh Taylor vs Jose Ramirez – May 22
Taylor’s win over Ramirez never threatened to turn into a classic as the Toartan Tornado blew him awayCredit: Getty Images – Getty
The World Boxing Super Series super-light king had dreamed of emulating his hero Ken Buchanan and becoming undisputed world champion.
The fantasy included a packed stadium filled with all the friends and family who had supported him and a hellacious blood-and-guts fight that would take him to the depths of despair before reaching the top of the world.
    Sadly he got neither.
The ruthless Covid-19 travel restrictions meant he travelled to Las Vegas with just a handful of his team to take on the Mexican-American WBO and WBC champion and his huge entourage.
And the fight never even threatened to turn into a classic because the Tartan Tornado simply blew his rival away.
Taylor ticked so many boxes, he confronted Ramirez’s Twitter troll manager who wilted in the California sun, he stood up to every old trick he faced as the visiting fighter, he got right in Ramirez’s face and then bested him in every department to score two knockdowns and a wide UD.
Maxi Hughes vs Jovanni Staffon – September 4
Hughes was perfect against the heavy favourite as he beat Staffon in SeptemberCredit: Getty
Before 2021, the featherweight southpaw was most famous for being Josh Warrington’s sparring partner-cum-painter-and-decorator.
But the brilliantly-modest underdog has just enjoyed a life-changing five-fight win streak that culminated in winning the IBO world lightweight title against Straffon.
It may not be one of the Big Four belts but it is still a magnificent achievement for 31-year-old Hughes.
He now has the scalps of Jono Carroll, Kazakh Viktor Kotochigov, Paul Hyland dangerous Mexican banger Straffon on his record.
Hughes was perfect at Headingley, slipping shots and constantly countering against the heavy favourite.
In trademark self-deprecating fashion, Hughes has since offered to go America and Australia to offer champions Devin Haney and George Kambosos ‘easy’ fights.
And every British boxing fan must be hoping the lovely fella’s Cinderella story has a few more chapters. More

American star Paul stole the official stat sheet before turning it into a paper airplane
Paul extended his perfect record to 5-0 inside the squared circle as he floored the former UFC welterweight champion in the sixth round.
And the YouTuber-turned-boxer has remained in the Magic City as he attended the NBA clash between Miami and Detroit at the FTX Arena, which the hosts won 115-112.
The former Disney actor lived up to his Problem Child moniker by pulling pranks during the match, resulting in security having a word with him.
Not only did he tell his partner Rose that every quarter of a basketball match was an ‘inning’, he also stole the official stat sheet for the first half.
Sharing the footage on his Instagram story, Paul can be seen with the piece of paper in his hand, before turning it into a paper airplane.
A security guard then walked over to the Ohio native to warn him not to throw it onto the court.

Paul simply captioned the upload: “I’m not going to throw it.”
The American then uploaded a snap of his girlfriend Rose, where he labelled her as “literally perfect”.
It comes after Paul revealed he will propose to his partner as soon as possible ahead of their romantic holiday together.

He called out UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz after stopping Woodley, who were both ringside in Tampa for the bout.
Paul said: “Masvidal and Nate Diaz, y’all are some b****** for leaving this arena.

“Because I know you don’t want that s***. I’ll take out both of y’all next.
“Just get out of your contracts with daddy Dana [White] and I’mma f*** them up too. Anyone, anytime, any place. It’s every f***ing day, bro.”
Fights against Tommy Fury, Conor MocGregor and even Mike Tyson have also been mooted to take place next. More
