Tyson Fury will only have to fork out 20 per cent of fight purse to Brit rival Dillian Whyte in world title showdown

TYSON FURY will only have to give Dillian Whyte 20 per cent of the purse of their potential showdown. The WBC made Whyte the mandatory challenger for the green and gold belt in October but a deal has been delayed over rows over money.

Whyte, the WBCs No1 contender since 2017, has been pushing for a 40 per cent split based on his interim-champion status.
But Team Fury – headed up by UK promoter Frank Warren and his US peer Bob Arum – have insisted Whyte’s worth is only 20.
Whyte took the WBC to an arbitration case in a bid to get his potential pay packet increased.
But SunSport understands the Mexico-based sanctioning body has now ruled that Whyte, 33, will only be due a fifth of their potential windfall.
Fury, also 33, wants to fight as early as March and Whyte will have the option to accept the terms for a UK showdown this Spring.
Or Fury already has two potential opponents lined up on both sides of the Pond.
Finnish giant Robert Helenius is already in place to fight Fury in a UK homecoming bout, subject to coronavirus restrictions allowing a full house.
And if any attendance restrictions look like harming Fury’s earning potential on home soil he can return to Las Vegas where he likes the idea of facing Andy Ruiz Jr.

Ex Mike Tyson coach accuses Anthony Joshua of accepting defeat ‘too easily as he’s made too much money’ after Usyk bout

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been accused of accepting defeat ‘too easily and too graciously’ ahead of his crunch rematch with Oleksandr Usyk. The Watford warrior has only lost to Andy Ruiz Jr and Usyk in his 26-fight career but has handled both defeats with the utmost class.

But legendary boxing coach and pundit Teddy Atlas believes the former unified heavyweight champ wilts when the going gets tough and after being bested.
During the latest episode of The Fight with Teddy Atlas, the 65-year-old said: “Joshua, he’s made too much money.
“I do [think that]. He accepts defeat too easily, too graciously.”
Atlas is a fan of fighters showing humility after setbacks but believes Joshua doesn’t show enough disappointment and hunger to settle the score with his conquerors.
The former trainer of undisputed heavyweight king Mike Tyson said: “I want a good winner and a good loser, don’t get me wrong.
“I believe as much as anybody, if not more than most people, about that.

“About showing that kind of graciousness whether you win or lose, but he’s too gracious when it comes to it.

Joshua, 32, suffered a lopsided points defeat to Usyk in their tussle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September.
AJ will have the opportunity to exact revenge on the slick southpaw in a rematch next year, which SunSport understands is in the works for late March.
And the Golden Boy of British boxing is hellbent on decimating on his fellow London 2012 Olympian second time around.
He recently told iFL TV: “I have one thing in my mind, that’s war, that’s murder, that’s war, let’s go out there and hurt the guy.

The fight was delayed by six weeks after Williams picked up a shoulder injury ahead of the original December 11 date.
And with Eubank gearing up for a title shot against Gennady Golovkin shoul dhe beat Williams, Joshua made an appearance at his Dubai training camp to give him a boost.
Eubank uploaded a snap of himself posing with AJ, captioned: “Even over the holidays we still stay hustlin’.
    “Boxing isn’t a job… it’s a lifestyle.”
AJ also shared a series of videos of Eubank working hard in the ring on his Instagram Story.
The heavyweight star – who most-recently lost his belts at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk – also uploaded clips of Survivor classic Eye Of The Tiger, most-famously used in boxing film Rocky.

Eubank has fought twice so far in 2021, seeing off Marcus Morrison and Wanik Awdijan.
And he will now hope to battle past fierce rival Williams to set up a clash with Golovkin.
Eubank and Williams have been locked in a war of words for months now – with the Englishman even calling it a ‘grudge match’ himself.
Last month, he claimed: “Respect is definitely not a word I would use in my feeling towards Liam.
“He has said a lot of reckless feelings online and it doesn’t sit well with me.
“This is a grudge match and genuine domestic rivalry, the things he has said has made it personal.
“The things he has said, ‘lowlife’, ‘scumbag’ and ‘cretin’, these are the words that I can use to describe a man that talks the way he talks and he will eat his words soon enough.
“It seems he has come here today and take about respect but it has gone too far past that and he is going to get embarrassed.” More

Deontay Wilder’s coach breaks down why Tyson Fury will LOSE to Oleksandr Usyk unless he reverts to former style

TYSON FURY won’t get the better of Oleksandr Usyk unless he goes back to the style he used to dethrone Wladimir Klitschko in 2015.The WBC king is hoping to lock horns with the unified heavyweight champ in an undisputed title fight later this year.

Wilder’s head coach Malik Scott reckons Fury will have to get back to his old elusive ways to be successful against UsykCredit: AFP
Fury is confident of walking through Usyk following his 11th round KO of Deontay Wilder in October, although The Bronze Bomber’s head coach Malik Scott doesn’t foresee this version of the Gypsy King beating the slick southpaw.
He told ES News: “I believe the Fury that fought Wladimir Klitschko gives Usyk all kinds of fits.
“The movement, reflexes. This Fury right now, Usyk would beat… this Fury is easier to hit than any Fury before.”
Before Fury can think about getting his hands on Usyk, he must first get through his mandatory title defence against fellow Brit Dillian Whyte.
SunSport understands the long-awaited Battle of Britain was tentatively in the works for late February.
But Fury’s co-promoter Bob Arum recently cast doubt over the bout by claiming Whyte is being ‘greedy’ with his purse demands.

He told iFL TV: “Dillian Whyte could have that fight. We would do that fight.
“But they’re – in our view – very greedy with what they’re asking.
“We’ve offered them a big, good deal.
“A purse deal far more than they’ve ever gotten in any fight, and that hasn’t moved them.
“So we’ve talked to the head of the WBC – Mauricio Sulaiman – and he said ‘look, it breaks my heart, but go find another opponent, fight without the WBC title and we’re not gonna take it away from you’
“Dillian Whyte really, and his people, should come to the table and fight Tyson Fury, but that’s not likely to happen so they’re going to play out the arbitration.”
The 90-year-old added: “If he can think he can win and take the WBC title, stop cr around with the arbitration and looking to push for the biggest dollar.
Dillian Whyte is currently the mandatory challenger for Tyson Fury’s WBC strapCredit: GETTY
“Tyson is the bigger attraction, no-one has heard of Dillian Whyte in the United States really.
“We have offered him a deal with 25 per cent and a guarantee and let him negotiate from that, but again he says he wants eight-figures over ten million which is out of the question.
“The WBC will be talking about 25 per cent and 75 per cent from the champion but he needs to come to the table with a normal type of negotiation.”

Seven best British boxing fights of 2021 including Tyson Fury’s win over Deontay Wilder and Chisora’s war with Parker

BRITISH boxing took a bit of a battering in 2021 with world champions like Anthony Joshua, Josh Warrington, Terri Harper and Kid Galahad losing their world titles. But a handful of stars like Maxi Hughes, Savannah Marshall, Leigh Wood and Sunny Edwards have jumped into the spotlight with great victories and performances.
Tyson Fury’s trilogy victory over Deontay Wilder was a fight for the agesCredit: EPA
But some of the very best fights don’t always feature a world title, a faultless performance or even a packed stadium.
Up and down the UK, there are brilliant bouts for area titles, English and British honours and good old bragging rights every weekend.
We’ve seen underdogs spring surprises, journeymen refuse to be beaten, sparring partners become stars and away corners get the result.
But some of the best bouts almost need no result. There are times when the valiant loser limps away with equal credit and respect.
There have been chess matches and all-out-wars that have left both men covered in blood and glory.
It’s been tough but SunSport has tried to narrow it down to a handful of the best of 2021:

Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder 3 – Oct 9 – Las Vegas
Fight fans of this generation so often feel robbed of the old glory days of Rumbles in Jungles, Thrillas in Manillas and Brawls in Montreal but this was a magnificent throwback and reminder of how great the sport can be.
Both men were tied at 2-2 for trips to the canvas, somehow dragging their giant and broken bodies back to their feet four times in total.
And then the Gypsy King went to the well one more time to collapse Wilder and retain his WBC crown and confirm his name at the very top of the pile.
Wilder redeemed himself, Sugar Hill Stewart’s thrilling cornerwork emerged as a bonus later on and everyone walked away reminded of why these men – the heavyweight champions of the world – are at the peak of all sport.
Troy Williamson vs Ted Cheeseman – Oct 9 – Liverpool
If Bermondsey braveheart Cheeseman has now retired at the age of 26, with a lovely young family and various businesses to enjoy, he leaves behind a magnificent body of work any fighter would be proud of.
The Tony Sims-trained ace went through back-to-back wars with Asinia Byfield, Sergio Garcia, Kieron Conway, Scott Fitzgerald, Sam Eggington, JJ Metcalf and finally Williamson – all in the space of three breath-taking years.
His record from that amazing run reads WLDLWWL but everyone is worth going back and watching again.
Round seven alone of this barnstormer was incredible as both men took barrages of punishment but remained upright.
But Williamson – who bravely went over to Cheeseman’s promotion and broadcaster – knocked him out violently with a left hook in round 10.
Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam – July 24 – London
The 36-year-old Juggernaut was supposed to enjoy a nice tune-up fight against the teak-tough slugger who had suffered defeats to Anthony Joshua and Derek Chisora, but it turned into a hellish affair.
Joyce’s famously granite chin was tested a terrifying amount of times for the five opening rounds before he unloaded and got a contested stoppage win.
It lacked the spectacle of Fury vs Wilder 3 and the bloody chess match of Williamson and Cheeseman, but the Copper Box was filled with gasps and groans as all of the Brit’s fans worried he was going to blow his lofty rankings in a stunning upset.
Of course the ice-cool Putney giant assured everyone after that he had it all under control.
Joe Joyce overcame a hellish war to beat Carlos TakamCredit: Reuters
Sam Eggington vs Bilal Jkitou – Sept 10 – Coventry
This magnificent Midlands ruck would not have looked out of place at Madison Square Garden or the MGM, Las Vegas.
Mick Hennessy put on a thrilling headliner that was so popular, it got a run at a local cinema shortly after.
Eggington – still only 28 – already has about three career’s worth of fight-of-the-year contenders and he went to war once again with the unknown Frenchman.
The Brummie got a split decision win after 12 rounds of relentless middleweight action.
It was a reminder that Hennessy – who usually has to play third fiddle to Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren – can still put on a brilliant ball, when he has the right dance partners.
Anyone who watched the first clash would definitely support Channel 5 rerunning it again in 2022.
Jack Cullen vs Avni Yildrim – July 31 – Essex
Turkey’s middleweight had rounds of experience from previous defeats to Chris Eubank Jr and Canelo Alvarez so was the heavy favourite to travel to the UK and beat the Englishman.
Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver – the man with the North Face tattoo on his shoulder after a drunken bet – was not standing for it though.
A brilliant rabble of Cullen’s friends and family paid the pricey £750 PER TICKET to cheer their local legend on.
And he repaid them with a wonderful performance to win wide on all three cards.
The 28-year-old beanpole is one of Britain’s must-watch boxers as he has been in brilliant battles with John Harding Jr, Felix Cash, Zak Chelli, John Docherty and Yildrim.
Joseph Parker vs Derek Chisora – Dec 18 – Manchester
After the first instalment last May ended in a lukewarm points win for the New Zealander, few people wanted to see these two middle-aged millionaires trash talk and swap punches again.
But 37-year-old British ring icon Chisora put on a magnificent show of courage to survive three counts and still end the fight on his feet and swinging for the rafters.
Parker, 29, packed with 10lbs of more muscle from the first clash landed a hat-trick of sickening uppercuts that Del Boy could not deal with.
One folded the Finchley ace to his knees and the other two clattered him back into the ropes where Howard Foster gave him eight seconds to recover.
In reality, Parker is no closer to a world title, with Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and Dillian Whyte tying them up for a couple of years at least.
So it just showed how much fighting pride both men had to smash each other senseless and then share the Five Guys burgers Chisora bought for everyone backstage.
When the Zimbabwe-born warrior retires he will be missed and it’s unlikely we will ever see his likes again.
Joseph Parker’s recent battle with Derek Chisora was enjoyed by everyoneCredit: PA
Katie Taylor vs Natasha Jonas – May 1 – Manchester
Nine years on since these two lit up the London 2012 Olympics, with Irish icon Taylor taking the gold, the pioneers met again as pros.
Taylor put her four lightweight world titles and undisputed status on the line while Liverpool’s Jonas looked for revenge.
Over ten brilliant rounds – sadly only two minutes long in the women’s code – we saw constant nip and tuck action.
Jonas landed the bigger shots, Taylor the more precise points scoring.
Eventually the judges inside the eerily empty arena scored it 96-94, 96-95 and 96-95.
It was not elite female boxing, it was simply elite boxing.

Mike Tyson ‘is a very exposed human being and a lot of people don’t protect him’, says UFC legend Vitor Belfort

UFC legend Vitor Belfort has described Mike Tyson as a ‘very exposed human being’ and is angry that ‘a lot of people don’t protect him’.The two sport stars have trained with each other before, with Belfort showing the boxing Hall of Famer the ropes in MMA.
Mike Tyson has had his well documented problems with drugs and alcohol
Vitor Belfort believes Mike Tyson is not well ‘protected’
And Belfort, speaking exclusively to SunSport, has revealed the pair spoke about their respective ‘hardships’ during down time.
Tyson has had his well documented problems with alcohol and drugs, and spent three years in prison after being found guilty of rape.
He still fiercely denies this, and has since turned his life around, culminating in a sensational return to the boxing ring in November 2020.
Talking about their chats, Belfort, 44, said: “We have had conversations. It was about personal stuff, the hardships, a guy who went through hardships.
He’s a very unique person, but the personal things we talked about I keep to myself because Mike Tyson is a very exposed human being and a lot of people don’t protect him.
“But I can tell you that with Mike Tyson’s life style that he had, just to be alive and here, we should use that as an example of ‘if you believe it, you can do it’.”

Belfort was in boxing action himself recently – in a heavily-criticised exhibition bout against Evander Holyfield.
He floored the 58-year-old former heavyweight king twice before, thankfully, the fight was waved off in the first round.
But despite his own sporting crossover, Belfort does NOT want to see Tyson try out in MMA at the age of 55.
He added: “He would have to learn the ground game, do the wrestling and it’s a totally different sport, totally different ball game. It’s very hard.
“Don’t take me wrong, but I don’t think it would be a good idea.”
Tyson has previously sensationally teased he could have an MMA fight, with training footage showing him sparring in the octagon.
But seemingly, Belfort wants it to remain as sparring in the gym and nothing more.
Tyson has plenty to focus on outside of training and the boxing ring anyway, with him pushing on with his cannabis business.

Jake Paul fight with Conor McGregor and Deontay Wilder facing Derek Chisora included on Eddie Hearn’s 2022 wishlist

EDDIE HEARN has revealed his big fight wishlist for 2022 – with dream bouts featuring Jake Paul against Conor McGregor and Deontay Wilder versus Derek Chisora on it. The promoter had a hand in making some of the biggest events in 2021, involving stars such as Anthony Joshua, 32, and Canelo Alvarez, 31.

And no doubt he will want to pick up where he left off when boxing resumes next year.
But Hearn is also a fan of the sport at heart, so like the rest of us hopes to see boxers outside of his stable in big fights.
Two mega-stars outside of his Matchroom Boxing banner are YouTuber Paul, 24, and ex-UFC champion McGregor, 33.
And he believes for Paul – whose professional debut was promoted by Hearn – a match-up with Irishman McGregor is the one he wants to see.
He said on DAZN: “For Jake Paul personally, the fight to make is Conor McGregor.
“This is a mega-fight and a really good fight as well, got to get the catchweight right in the middle, although Conor McGregor looks huge at the moment.

“Conor McGregor; legend, Jake Paul; content legend – but a lot of fun putting the work in.
“I want to see Jake Paul against Conor McGregor, let’s get it made – I can’t say it’s the top of my list of Christmas cheer here on DAZN, but a little bit of fun for the festive season.”
Elsewhere on the list is former WBC king Wilder, 36, and British veteran Chisora, 38.
Wilder was most recently knocked out by Tyson Fury, 33, in round 11 of their epic trilogy bout.

Meanwhile Chisora was floored three times in an exciting rematch defeat to Joseph Parker, 29.
Despite being his third loss on the spin, Hearn is hoping to tempt Wilder into a return fight against Chisora.
He said: “Deontay Wilder, we want to see you back in the ring. I’ve got the perfect guy for you – Dereck Chisora.
“Come on, he’s getting on a little bit, he’s coming off three defeats on the spin now. Easy comeback fight for Deontay Wilder. Dereck’s ready.”

But Del Boy is refusing to call time on his career as he stated he will be back in the ring for his 45th bout next summer.
Matchroom promoter Hearn believes Chisora should face Wilder in 2022, labelling the dust-up as an ‘easy comeback fight’ for the Bronze Bomber.
Wilder, 36, has lost his last two contests having been knocked out by Tyson Fury on both occasions, with his most recent loss coming in October.
Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show: “Deontay Wilder, we want to see you back in the ring.
“I’ve got the perfect guy for you – Derek Chisora.
“Come on, he’s getting on a little bit, he’s coming off three defeats on the spin now.

“Easy comeback fight for Deontay Wilder. Derek’s ready.”
But Chisora’s trainer isn’t a fan of the potential encounter, as he took to social media to play down the fight.
Coldwell tweeted: “Christmas is over. Eddie needs to put the sherry away for another year.”
Hearn has previously backed Chisora to beat Wilder, who is considering retirement, but only if the bout goes more than four rounds.
He said: “All Chisora’s losses have come at elite level, and Wilder is elite level.

“Listen, Chisora can beat Wilder. If he hits him with a big shot…
“I tell you what, if that fight goes past four rounds, Chisora wins that fight.
“But he’s got to get past four rounds and that’s gonna be really dangerous against someone who punches as hard as Wilder.” More
