      Tyson Fury’s promotional team open door to ‘no-brainer’ Las Vegas crossover fight with UFC champion Francis Ngannou

      TYSON FURY’S promotional team has opened the door to a ‘no-brainer’ Las Vegas crossover fight with UFC champion Francis Ngannou. The boxing and the UFC heavyweight champions have steadily built an online feud together.

      Ngannou most recently retained his belt against Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 on points.
      Meanwhile Fury – who called out the Cameroonian afterwards – is set to face WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, 33.
      But president of Fury’s Top Rank promotion Todd DuBoef said if the rivals continue to win, a clash of the combat sports in the fight capital of the world remains on the cards.
      DuBoef told MMA Fighting: “I think it does fantastic in Vegas.
      “And the reason why I say that is because, looking from a perspective of pay-per-view.
      “I think there would be a very, very big appetite on US pay-per-view for that fight, and what we’ve seen with Fury coming from the UK.
      “The UK audience is used to staying up late and paying for the pay-per-view.”

      He added: “I’m just responding to somebody saying, ‘Hey, what do you think of this?’
      “Honestly, I think it’s a very compelling product for the consumer, and I think it could work very easily. That’s what I think, if you ask my opinion.
      “To have the biggest, baddest man of MMA and the biggest, baddest man of boxing meet in the ring is a no-brainer.
      “There’s not much hype you have to do there.”
      UFC stars are prohibited from competing outside of the promotion, unless given special permission.
      Conor McGregor, 33, was in 2017 allowed to fight Floyd Mayweather, 44, but it has so far proven a one-off.

      Ngannou has recently been at odds with the UFC after calling for a pay rise and stipulation in his contract that would allow him to also pursue boxing.
      After beating Gane, 31, his current UFC deal expired but there are still hopes a contract extension can be agreed.
      DuBoef revealed the super-fight would need both Fury, 33, and Ngannou, 35, to push for it opposed to Top Rank and the UFC.
      He said: “How much does Fury want it? How much does Ngannou want it?
      “We know that Mayweather and McGregor really wanted it, and they were the driving force behind getting that done.
      “At the end of the day, it may be the athletes that drive their respective partners to push that.”

      AFTER weeks of negotiation, Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte look finally set for their all-British showdown. Fury is the reigning WBC heavyweight champion after back-to-back victories over Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas.

      The Gypsy King retained his crown by emphatic knockout back in October last year, with unification against then-champ Anthony Joshua eyed up.
      AJ was to ultimately lose his own title defence to Oleksandr Usyk and now the pair are poised to rematch, so Fury’s attention has turned to Dillian Whyte as he puts his belt on the line once again.
      Whyte was named by the WBC as the mandatory challenger on December 7, but the fight has run into a number of difficulties since then.

      The 6ft 9in undefeated ace wanted Whyte to accept around £5m to step aside and let him fight Usyk.
      But Whyte’s team have dug in with their man wanting the chance to take Fury’s belts – and they look to have finally got their wish.
      After FOUR delayed purse bids for the clash – the final auction is now scheduled for Mexico City on Friday, January 28 – Fury suggested the negotiations were over and Whyte had got his shot.
      The Morecambe giant boomed: “I can’t wait to punch Dillian Whyte’s face right in, mate.
      “I am going to give him the best hiding he has ever had in his life.
      “Dillian Whyte, train hard because you are going to get annihilated, bum.”

      When is Tyson Fury vs Dillian Whyte?

      As yet, there is no confirmed date for the all-British showdown.
      But if made it is expected to be in late March/April this year.
      Fury hasn’t fought in the UK since 2018 when he faced Sefer Seferi in Manchester and then Francesco Pianeta in Belfast.

      What is the fight venue?
      The most likely venue for the event is reportedly Cardiff or Manchester, but no details are set in stone.
      If Fury returned to his roots in the North West it would be his first appearance there in three years since the win over Seferi.
      And either venue would be great news for UK fight fans, with the bout likely to take place at a friendlier time than the 5am GMT epics against Wilder.

      Which TV channel and live stream will it be on?
      Again, with no concrete details everything at the moment is just speculation about the fight.

      But the bout is almost certain to be a pay-per-view event and which platform it is shown on will depend on who promotes the fight.
      Fury vs Wilder 3 cost £24.95 to watch on BT and we’d expect something similar for this all-British title clash.

      LENNOX LEWIS has urged Anthony Joshua NOT to accept a step-aside deal and instead win back the heavyweight belts. AJ is owed an immediate rematch with Oleksandr Usyk having been beaten over 12 rounds in September.

      But Middle East money men are looking to front cash for an undisputed title decider between Usyk and Tyson Fury.
      It would mean Joshua, and Fury’s WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, accepting a fee to sit on the sidelines.
      Lewis is no stranger to stepping aside, having accepted £2.9million ($4m) in 1996 to allow Mike Tyson to beat Bruce Seldon.
      But as the British legend points out, he did so having won his last four fights.
      So Lewis, now 56, warned AJ against accepting the reported £15m step-aside deal to instead avenge his loss against Usyk.
      He tweeted: “And before you bring up the Tyson step aside money… just remember, I wasn’t coming off of a loss.
      “I would go get my belts back first. This also is not advice or a knock on AJ. It’s just what I would do in that situation.”

      CLARESSA SHIELDS said Floyd Mayweather will fly over to be at her next fight in Wales. The two-weight undisputed women’s champion returns to the ring on February 5 against Ema Kozin.

      Headlining that night in Cardiff is Chris Eubank Jr, 32, in a grudge match against middleweight rival Liam Williams, 29.
      Ahead of the event, Shields, 25, held an open workout in Mayweather’s Las Vegas gym and was even given some pointers by the boxing legend.
      She told Sky Sports: “Training with Floyd Mayweather has pushed my confidence even higher.
      “He’s very fond of my skills and my power and he said he’s going to fly to the UK to watch this fight. So I’m definitely looking to put on a great show.
      “If I had to use one word for this camp, it would be: uncomfortable. I made sure that I got out of my comfort zone for this fight.
      “I’m making sure that I have all my tools and going to the Mayweather Boxing Club has really sharpened those tools.”

      Though for that blockbuster to go ahead, Whyte and Anthony Joshua, who is contracted to an immediate rematch against Usyk, would have to accept step-aside money.

      But the 6ft 9in undefeated ace wanted Whyte to accept around £5million to step aside and let him fight WBA, IBF and WBO boss Oleksandr Usyk.
      The Ukraine sensation is contractually obliged to rematch Anthony Joshua but AJ was considering a similar deal in the region of £15m to let Fury vs Usyk happen – in Saudi Arabia – IF he was guaranteed a lucrative shot at the eventual winner and holder of all four belts.
      After four delayed purse bids for the Fury vs Whyte clash – the final auction is now scheduled for Mexico City on Friday – Fury suggested the negotiations were over and Whyte had finally got his shot.

      Fury’s latest outburst came just hours after Usyk’s manager had accused the Brit of being the man at fault for holding up the division.
      Egis Klimas seemed to be sick of Fury publicly blaming the three other fighters for delaying this summer’s super-fight schedule.
      The mentor to boxing icons like Usyk and Vasiliy Lomachenko said: “Before the next time you mentionOleksandr Usyk’s name, check with your team, management, advisers and promoters who agreed with all terms and conditions.

      Thurman is welcomed back into the ring by former light-welterweight title holder Barrios, who was knocked out by Gervonta Davis last June.
      And he insisted the risky return sets him up perfectly to then challenge pound-for-pound rivals Spence and Crawford or WBA champ Yordenis Ugas, 35.
      Thurman, 33, told SunSport: “The fans know what Keith Thurman is all about.
      “They know what Keith Thurman represents and they know that I’m always trying to bring some of the most exciting fights into the welterweight division.
      “Regardless of whether it’s Spence, Crawford, Ugas, whoever is out there, they know after February 5th, as long as they see the Keith Thurman that has always excited them, we’ll be moving on to bigger and better and more exciting fights.”

      And the American believes Barrios’ love for battle could lead to his downfall as he moves up in weight.
      Thurman said: “He’s a talented young man, he has great hand speed, he definitely seems to be a bit of a combination fighter.
      “He knows how to let his hands go and when it comes to exploitation it seems like he’s willing to trade with people.
      “He likes to put himself in position to land that left hook but when you’re in that position, you’re kind of in the position to take a left hook.
      “I look forward to possibly trading left hooks with him. I see myself as the bigger puncher and the bigger guy in the ring.
      “I don’t know if he’ll be able to back me up as easily as he did Tank Davis. He seems to be better on his front foot than on his back foot.
      “But all that for me is very speculative, so the most important thing for me is to have my fundamentals down.”

      Tyron Woodley’s coach says ex-UFC star refusing to let Jake Paul KO keep him down and eyes boxing fight on return

      TYRON WOODLEY is refusing to let his knockout loss to Jake Paul keep him down – and could return to boxing in his next fight. Woodley in August faced Paul over eight rounds, losing by split-decision.

      But he got a shot at redemption with a late-notice rematch last month after Tommy Fury, 22, pulled out of fighting YouTube star Paul, 24, through injury.
      Unfortunately for Woodley, it resulted in a brutal KO defeat and left him as the brunt of harsh online trolling.
      But boxing coach Gerald Tucker, who cornered both the fights with Paul, insisted the ex-UFC champion has dealt with and overcome far worse.
      Tucker told SunSport: “He’s from Ferguson, Missouri, it’s a tough spot, urban and equivalent to where I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. 
      “We have something in us from birth which won’t let us stay down for too long or worry about something negative that happened in our past.” 
      Woodley, 39, left the UFC following four consecutive losses and pursued boxing as a new venture.
