Anthony Fowler fight delayed after opponent Lukasz Maciec forced to get temporary tattoo removed over breaking rules

ANTHONY FOWLER’S fight was delayed after his opponent Lukasz Maciec was forced to have a temporary tattoo removed. Cameras backstage revealed the Pole having his stomach scrubbed by a member of his corner team to get rid of sponsorship logos.
Anthony Fowler’s fight was delayed after his opponent was forced to have a temporary tattoo removed
It was then confirmed the British Boxing Board of Control refused to allow Maciec to fight until it was removed.
As a result, Fowler’s ten-round return fight at London’s O2 Arena was slightly delayed but Maciec did box with sponsors on his back.
Liverpool’s 2016 Rio Olympian went on to win on points as he secured a return win.
Fowler had in October been beaten by Merseyside rival Liam Smith by eight-round stoppage.
It sparked a move up in weight for Fowler, who is eyeing titles at middleweight.
He told DAZN before his comeback fight: “I’m gonna be 31 soon and after two losses, I haven’t really got much time to waste.

The scorecards turned in by experienced judges Ian John Lewis and Victor Laughlin caused outrage in the boxing community, so much so BBOBC will ask the pair to explain their scoring of the bout.
BBOBC General Secretary Robert Smith told the Daily Telegraph: “We will be looking into it.
“There were some very close rounds, it was a very close, very scrappy fight, and I have asked for reports from the judges which we will be studying this week.
“Our judges are honest people, and scored it as they saw it. I was there, and I thought Catterall pipped it.”
A heartbroken Catterall turned in a stellar performance on enemy territory and many thought he’d done enough to end Taylor’s reign as undisputed 140lb king.
The 28-year-old wrote on Instagram: “You know what hurts the most, it wasn’t for me, I done all of this for my family my team, my town and country.

Prestonpans pounder Taylor looked a shell of the fighter who became undisputed champ against Jose Ramirez last September but insists he did more than enough to retain his titles.
He said: “I thought I’d done enough – 100 per cent. I started slow as I tried to get my timing.
“I caught him with the bigger shots. “He tried to spoil, he leaned in a lot and there was a clash of heads.

“I just put too much pressure on myself to put on a good show but it didn’t matter in the end. I got the result. It was close.
“I allowed him a bit of success by loading up but I landed the more meaningful shots.

In a clip they shared on social media, Wladimir says: “I’m calling to all international partners to observe this strategy that is happening nowadays in Ukraine and this senseless war which is not going to have any winners, but losers.
“I just want to tell you we must stay united against this Russian aggression.
“Don’t let it continue happening in Ukraine, don’t let it happen in Europe and eventually in the world.
“United we are strong. Support Ukraine. Thank you.”
Unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk, 35, a close friend of Lomachenko’s, said: “I’d like to speak to the people of Russia.
“If we consider ourselves as brothers, orthodox ones. Do not let your children to set out to our country, do not fight with us.
“Also I’m addressing this to the President Vladimir Putin. You can stop this war. Please just sit down and negotiate it with us without claims.
“Our kids, wives, grannies are hiding in the basements…
“We are here in our own country, we cannot do it other way – we are defending… Stop it! Stop this war.”

MP Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s reaction to the fight
Boxing fans, pundits as well as fighters of the past and present were left in disgust as the challenger saw the performance of a lifetime go unrewarded.

He tweeted: “It was a disgraceful decision by two of the boxing referees!
“I will be speaking with the sports minister. The result is a travesty of justice.”
Officials Victor Loughlin and Ian John-Lewis came under scrutiny for scoring the fight in Taylor’s favour.
But Howard Foster showed some sense with his 113-112 score to Catterall, 28. with both fighters winning six rounds.

Taylor has long eyed a jump up to the glamoured 147lb welterweight division to chase the super-fights.
And it appears his struggles to shrink down and make the 10st limit are now over.
Taylor, 31, told Sky Sports: “Most definitely this will be my last fight at 140lbs. That’s the last fight at 140lbs.
“Time to move up. Time to bulk up. Time to get some steaks in me and move up.

BETTING SPECIAL – GET TAYLOR TO BEAT CATTERALL AT 20/1
“Making 140lbs and depleting my body takes a little bit out of me each time.
“It definitely showed in my performance a little bit but that’s my last one at 140lbs, for sure.”
Taylor, floored in round eight and had a point deducted, was handed a widely unpopular split-decision win.
Boxing fans, pundits as well as fighters of the past and present were left in disgust as Catterall, 28, saw the performance of his lifetime go to waste.
And with Taylor’s impending move up in weight and post-fight comments, it looks as though a shot at revenge is off the cards.
Taylor said: “It wasn’t my best performance, I put a hell of a lot of pressure on myself with it being my homecoming.
“It showed in the first half, but once I got my rhythm I started catching him with the bigger shots.
“It wasn’t my best performance, but I believe I got 100 per cent got the win.”

Josh Taylor’s trainer Ben Davison even told fighter in corner he needed KO in 12th round during Jack Catterall robbery

JOSH TAYLOR trainer Ben Davison claims his desperate pleas for his charge to land a last-minute knockout of Jack Catterall were not an admission he should have lost the decision.Scotland’s 31-year-old undisputed super-lightweight world champion impressed in just one of the opening six rounds, was cut around his right eye, floored in the eighth and deducted a point after the 11th.

Davison told Taylor after round eight that he was behind and doubled down before the 12th by telling him at least three times that he needed a stoppage to save his broken skin.
And British boxing is in uproar after Taylor was gifted a sickening split decision – thanks to woeful cards from judges Ian John-Lewis and Victor Loughlin.
But the respected Harlow trainer – who helped guide Tyson Fury back to the top of the fight game after he had retired and ballooned up to 28st – denied his desperate words confirmed that Catterall was robbed.
Davison said: “It was obviously a close fight.
“I purposely told Josh he needed a stoppage in the last round – not that I believed it – but I thought the fight was close and he maybe needed that round.
“Even the great Floyd Mayweather had nights where people thought his opponent had won.”

As well as frantically trying to inspire Taylor, Davison threw his arms in the air to get the 12,000 fans inside the Hydro to cheer their man over the line.
But he insists Team Taylor was never really worried about losing and the cheerleading was just aimed to rally the audience.
Davison added: “I told him a few times going into the fight that having the home crowd could have advantages and disadvantages in the fight.
“I think Josh put so much pressure on himself that once he gained some momentum I wanted to build on that.
“I felt the crowd would be a disadvantage at the start of the fight and an advantage toward the end and that is what we saw.”
After round eight, when Taylor was floored by a chopping left hand, Davison also tried to rally his man with serious warnings.
Before the ninth started he said: “Switch on! You need to step up now and step to him.
“He is starting to build up his pace and we are behind.
“You need a championship mentality. You have to take risks now.” More

‘F***ing joke, embarrassing, disgusting’ – Boxing outrage continues after Jack Catterall is robbed against Josh Taylor

BRITISH boxing is still reeling and seething from the sickening split decision robbery Jack Catterall suffered on Saturday night. The Chorley 28-year-old went to undisputed super-lightweight champion Josh Taylor’s Glasgow backyard – as a 6-1 underdog – and put on a masterclass to convince almost everyone he should be crowned 10st king.

But hapless judge Ian John-Lewis inexplicably scored it 114-111 to Taylor and Victor Loughlin – who did a great refereeing job last week when he saved Amir Khan – said 113-112 the same shocking way.
The entire Sky Sports commentary team was stunned, Catterall trainer Jamie Moore was left disgusted and considering his future in the sport and Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom admitted he was embarrassed and called for an inquest at the British Boxing Board of Control.
And Catterall – who waited two years for his mandatory crack at immortality – made the agony even worse with his emotional post-fight comments.
He said: “What hurts most is I didn’t do all this for me, I did it for my family, my team, my town and country. My baby girl and missus, our future.
“I should have been waking up with all of the belts. 15 months out of the ring, they all wrote me off. F***** me in every way possible for over two years, finally got the fight.
“I sacrificed everything to fight one of the top pound-for-pound ranked fighters and gave him a lesson. For what? Boxing shame on you. Judges. Dreams stolen.”

Ex-stablemate and world champion Carl Frampton was sickened, raging: “I try to be honest and it is wrong, f****** wrong. Everyone ringside, Sky, BBC, everyone knows the wrong man got his hand raised.
“I sat five yeards behind one of the judges so what the f*** is he seeing that I am not? It is a f****** horrible game.
“The 114-11 card stinks. I know there are no backhanders or brown envelopes but what are these guys seeing that I don’t. I don’t get it. It is so frustrating.”
Nigel Travis – Catterall’s assistant trainer and long-serving fireman – was almost in tears.
He said: “It’s a f****** joke, an embarrassment. I respect most of the BBBofC officials but I am embarrassed for them.
“I am sure I will be pulled up by the board but they have cheated Jack Catterall out of a life-changing win.
“Two months ago he was working on the tools because he had gone so long without a fight. It’s bulls***. I will stand on my honour and say they have lied.”
    ‘LOAD OF S***’
After Taylor was schooled in the first half of the fight, cut around the right eye, dropped in round eight and deducted a point after the 11th, Taylor’s own trainer Ben Davison told him he needed a KO to win in the last round.
So heavyweight ace Dillian Whyte kept it short and simple by calling the outcome ‘disgusting’.
Peter Fury added: “Wow boxing’s just gone through the floor. What a disgraceful night for boxing. Feel for Jack Catterall and the whole team there.”
Liam Smith commented: “Big fan of Josh Taylor, that was disgusting.”
And Catterall took to Twitter just before 1am with an X-rated blast.
He wrote: “What a load of s***!”
