Boxing fan ‘loses life savings’ after telling Chris Eubank Jr he bet on him to KO Liam Williams before points win

A BOXING fan claimed he put his life savings on Chris Eubank Jr to knock out Liam Williams – only to see the fight go the distance. Eubank Jr was a 1/3 favourite to beat hometown hero Williams in their Cardiff grudge match.

And one punter appeared to be so confident he lumped all he owns on the middleweight world title hopeful.
In an direct Instagram message to Eubank Jr, a fan wrote: “Chris, I’ve just unloaded my life savings onto you to win by stoppage, don’t let me down.”
The man himself revealed the claim and captioned it: “Now that’s some belief right there.”
The punter was well on his way to celebrating the mother of all gambles as Williams, 29, was floored FOUR times.
But he would have been left gutted and gobsmacked after Eubank Jr elected to take his foot off the gas and showboat his way to a win on the scorecards.
The 32-year-old later claimed he refused to look for the KO and instead wanted to ‘punish’ his rival over a sustained period.

‘I’m gonna fight dirty’ – Chris Eubank Jr admits he BIT rival Liam Williams during their fight ‘as hard as I could’

CHRIS EUBANK JR admitted he BIT Liam Williams as hard as he could when their grudge match turned ugly. The middleweight contender floored Welshman Williams FOUR times during the bitter domestic clash in Cardiff.

But Eubank Jr had to overcome some roughhouse tactics throughout the 12-round distance – so was forced to quite literally seek his teeth into it.
He said: “We knew he was going to come dirty, we knew he was going to try everything he could to take the fight to me.
“Whether it was in or out of the rules of boxing. But we dealt with it, I don’t complain.
“I’m upset that the referee didn’t take a point, at least one, during that fight for the amount of headlocks, headbutts and everything else that was going on.
“He was pushing his hand up against my face a couple of times. I actually had to bite him at one point.
“I’ve never bitten anybody in the ring before, I bit him. He put his arm around my neck and was squeezing my neck and his glove was kind of close to my mouth.
“So, I just gave it a bite as hard as I could. I was like, ‘Look, if he’s going to fight dirty, I’m going to fight dirty’. It is what it is.”

Tyson Fury predicts Deontay Wilder would KO ‘bum’ Anthony Joshua inside three rounds if heavyweight rivals ever fight

TYSON FURY has predicted old rival Deontay Wilder would knock out ‘bum’ Anthony Joshua inside three rounds. Fury, who shared an epic trilogy series with Wilder, posted a mocked up poster of the American and AJ.

And he predicted on Twitter: “I’d say @BronzeBomber would KO the bum inside 3 rounds.”
Fury and 36-year-old Wilder’s history stretches back to 2018 when they dramatically drew in Los Angeles.
But the Gypsy King recorded two stoppage wins in the rematch and subsequent trilogy bout.
Joshua , 32, meanwhile most recently lost to former undisputed cruiserweight king Oleksandr Usyk and is set to rematch the Ukrainian this year.
AJ’s two career losses, to Usyk, 35, and Andy Ruiz Jr, 32, in 2019, where blasted by Fury.
He told ESPN: “As soon as he stepped up he got chinned, then he went to America where the real fighters are and got obliterated by a fat kid on two weeks notice.

“If you think going into a boxing fight for the world heavyweight title is not trying to win, yeah I would give him that title.
“For me he is a useless old bum and he won’t get past Oleksandr Usyk in his next fight and his career is over.

Fury, 33, could get his shot at Joshua or Usyk, later in the year, but first faces WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, 33, set for April.
He said: “I just think he is an average looking heavyweight. Six feet three inches, 245 pounds, slow feet, slow hands and average power.
“Talk about tailor-made for a gifted boxer like myself, I should chop him down like a big old tree like cutting through cheese really.”

Keith Thurman makes Mario Barrios ‘look like Avatar character’ after leaving his face unrecognisable in brutal fight

KEITH THURMAN left Mario Barrios looking like an ‘Avatar character’ following their brutal welterweight fight. Former unified champion Thurman returned to the ring for the first time since a defeat to the now-retired Manny Pacquiao in July 2019.

And he marked his comeback in some style – putting on an epic performance against rugged American Barrios.
Barrios was left almost unrecognisable after the gruelling 12 rounds and fans on Twitter likened him to something from the 2009 Sci-fi classic Avatar.
One said: “Mario Barrios out there looking like Avatar.”
Another said: “Barrios got turned into a Avatar.”

Chris Eubank Jr called out by Conor Benn for huge catchweight fight 30-years on from when their dads fought

CHRIS EUBANK JR has two crazy domestic grudge battles to consider against Conor Benn and Billy Joe Saunders while his wait for a world title shot continues. The 32-year-old Brighton middleweight silenced Welsh enemy Liam Williams on Saturday in Cardiff.

But his mandatory shot at the WBA belt is tied up by the Gennady Golovkin and Ryota Murata bout getting repeatedly delayed by Covid rules in Japan.
Eubank Jr wants two more fights in 2022 and after 24-year-old welterweight Benn’s tongue-in-cheek social media suggestion of a catchweight bout – with the son of his father Nigel’s greatest rival – the spark was lit.
“If the fight was to happen it would be nice,” he said while icing the left hand he floored Williams with two out of four times and then injured. “It would be crazy.
“What fight fan wouldn’t want to see it? Two legends, their sons fighting each other, and they’re both doing big things in the boxing world.
“It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.”
Saunders, who outpointed Eubank Jr in 2014 but was badly beaten by Canelo Alvarez last May, has been calling his rival’s Boxxer promoters to learn if a rematch could be arranged.

And Eubank Jr, who is still haunted by the defeat, is keen to lure the two-weight world champion back into the ring to settle the score.
He said: “I don’t think much of Billy Joe at all but is it a fight I would take? Yes.
“It has a story, it has two top-tier fighters who don’t like each other. Who doesn’t want to see that fight?
“I don’t know, he doesn’t have anything to offer me, but if the offer is there and it’s the right time and place and the business makes sense, let’s do it.”
Williams talked his way into Saturday’s big-money Sky Sports headliner by insulting the Eubank family for over a year but he was punished from the very opening bell.
It doesn’t make any sense right now, but in a couple of years when Benn has filled out a little and I want a little bit of fun, we can get it on, but not right now.Chris Eubank Jr on Conor Benn
The Hove man chose to showboat and mock in the second half of the contest, knowing he was well ahead on the scorecards and Williams resorted to illegal tactics
But Eubank admitted he used his own mouth to exact some revenge on the 29-year-old whose face he had already disfigured with precise power shots.
“I bit him once,” he admitted with a grin. “I had to, he was ramming his glove into my face so I just bit it as hard as I could.
“It was personal for me and it never usually is. I would always shake my opponent’s hand but I didn’t here.
“When you talk about someone’s family it is unforgivable and until he makes a public statement that is how it will be.”

But British ring legend Chris Sr and other members of the family were ringside to watch their boy secure the decision with scores of 116-109, 116-108 and 117-109
Eubank Jr was booed into the ring by a hostile Cardiff crowd that had watched the national rugby side get trounced earlier by Ireland in the Six Nations.
Williams whipped himself and the partisan fans into a frenzy, marching around the ring and staring deeply into the darkness, looking menacing and spitting on the floor in Jr’s direction.
Roars of ‘Liam, Liam’ echoed around the arena and helped the local land the first few jabs.
But then a perfectly timed Eubank jab connected and sat Williams down on his shorts, he beat the count but lost the round.
Eubank was happy boxing on the back foot and letting Williams push the pressure and he walked him on to a crisp right hand that floored the Welshman again in the second.

Williams looked at his new corner team, headed by Adam Booth, in shell-shocked desperation but beat the count again.
Eubank was talking to Williams by the third, goading him in the heat of battle and he was warned over punching on the break.
When Williams threw and missed so wildly he span 360 degrees, Eubank even waved the pretend matador’s red rag to the raging bull.
The final few seconds was a shootout and then Eubank connected after the bell, referee Mark Lyson dragged him away and Williams’ team complained of a headbutt.
Then Williams landed one in the fourth that wobbled the 32-year-old but he tried to laugh it off.
And his smile was wider seconds later when he dropped Williams for the hat-trick.

Eubank kept trash talking and showboating too, silencing the audience and slashing at Williams’ dwindling confidence.
Williams was buzzed again at the start of the fifth by a right hand and his swollen cheekbones were starting to change colour.
But he kept attacking Eubank and trying to reverse the tide of the fight and enjoyed some clean shots just before the bell.
When Williams got his fans cheering in the sixth, Eubank had the audacity to look out into the seats and tell them they were backing the wrong horse.
The seventh was scrappy and violent but there were better moments in eight when Eubank landed a right uppercut but was also tagged back by a one-two.
The manicured beard Williams mocked repeatedly in the build-up was whacked by a peach of right in the ninth but those whiskers are seriously tough and Eubank did not wobble.
Williams improved in the back-half of the fight but the damage to his side of the scorecard was already done and Eubank could be confident of getting his arm raised as long as he completed the bout.

By the eleventh Williams right eye was almost punched completely shut and he was floored for a fourth time.
Eubank danced for the final three minutes, mocking Williams whenever he could but he got a late warning when cracked with a heavy blow on the ropes.
But Eubank added insult to injury by dancing and laughing in the final seconds so the crowd filled the arena with boos while he climbed the ropes to celebrate.
And after the bout he told Sky Sports that he set out to teach Williams ‘a lesson’ after all the trash-talking in the build-up to the fight.
Jr said: “I wanted to teach this man a lesson. He’d said some very menacing things to me.
“I thought, ‘I don’t even wanna knock this guy out in the first round, I wanna punish him.’ I wanna get people like that out of boxing.”
