Gennady Golovkin’s ex-trainer names three fighters who could beat Canelo Alvarez including champ with 100% KO ratio

GENNADY GOLOVKIN’S former trainer claimed there are only three fighters who can beat Canelo Alvarez. Sanchez twice cornered GGG against the Mexican superstar, with the first ending in a controversial draw in 2017 that many felt Golovkin deserved to win, before losing the rematch a year later.

Golovkin has since left the esteemed coach but is in line for a trilogy bout with Canelo this September.
Sanchez still believes the Kazakh, along with David Benavidez and Artur Beterbiev, potentially have the beating of boxing’s pound-for-pound best.
He told FightHype: “The only people who can be a tough fight for Canelo are Beterbiev, Benavidez, and a well-trained Golovkin.
“Those are the only people who can beat Canelo. The ones who walk him down. These are the only ones who can threaten him.”
Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions offered Canelo the chance to fight Jermall Charlo, 31, and Benavidez, 25.
But he opted for Eddie Hearn’s two-bout deal against Dmitry Bivol, 31, on May 7 and then Golovkin, 39, in September.

Benavidez has campaigned to fight Canelo but is now set to face David Lemieux, 33, the Canadian GGG beat in 2015.
Light-heavyweight Beterbiev, 37, is the sport’s only champ with a 100 per cent knockout ratio, standing at 17-0.
But Canelo opted to fight Russian Bivol instead, returning to 175lb for the first time since knocking out Sergey Kovalev, 38, in 2019.
Golovkin returns in a middleweight unification on April 9 in Japan against Ryota Murata, 36.
Wins for both Triple-G and Canelo will then see them renew their rivalry.

Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte sign up for extra drug testing with VADA ahead of April grudge match at Wembley

TYSON FURY and Dillian Whyte will undergo additional drug testing ahead of their eagerly-anticipated domestic dust-up.Multiple sources have told SunSport the former sparring partners have both agreed to be tested by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.

VADA testing is entirely funded by fighters or their promoters – unlike the tests administered by the United Kingdom’s anti-doping agency UKAD.
As a result of their signing up to the programme, both men will be subjected to random tests until their April 23 showdown.
Both Fury and Whyte have been caught up in anti-doping rows in the past.
Defending WBC champ Fury tested positive for the banned anabolic steroid Nandrolone following an in-competition test for his 2015 showdown with Christian Hammer.
The Gypsy King – who denied intentionally taking the PED and blamed the positive test on eating uncastrated boar – was handed a backdated two-year ban in 2017.
Whyte, meanwhile, has failed two drug tests in his career – the first of which came in 2012 after he took the now discontinued pre-workout supplement Jack3d in the build-up to his fight with Sandor Balogh.

The Brixton Body Snatcher received a two-year suspension after testing positive for the banned stimulant Methylhexaneamine.
And in June 2019, it emerged that Whyte tested positive for two metabolites of the banned anabolic steroid Dianabol ahead of his decision victory over Oscar Rivas at the O2 Arena.
Whyte was stripped of the interim WBC title as a result of the positive test, although UKAD cleared him of intentionally ingesting the prohibited agent after he provided proof he’d ingested a tainted supplement.
Fury and Whyte’s Battle of Britain has been in the making since their days as sparring partners.
And fan favourite Fury plans to bring the curtain down on his career after their Wembley war, saying: “This is the final fight of my career, I’m retiring after this.
“$150million in the bank, healthy, young, I’m going to buy a massive yacht abroad. I’m retiring, I’m out, this is my final fight, I’m done.”

He added: “After four years away I get to come back on the world’s biggest stage at Wembley Stadium.
“I am putting on for those who travelled out to Las Vegas and the fans who stayed up until 5am to watch on BT Sport.
“Now they can come and watch on home soil and be a part of history. People will be talking about this event, saying ‘where were you when this happened on that night of 23 April 2022?’ in years to come.
“When Tyson Fury smashed this fella to pieces in front of home fans in the UK.
“There hasn’t been a bigger fight since Lewis-Bruno, an all-British showdown for the WBC heavyweight championship of the world.
“It will be a fantastic event and I know Dillian Whyte is going to come in prepared. He will be rugged, rough, game and aggressive.”

Tyson Fury opens up on relationship with Joseph Parker and claims he’s now his ‘part-time manager and financial advisor’

TYSON FURY revealed he will NEVER fight Joseph Parker, who he advises and manages part time. The two formed an unlikely friendship after Parker beat Fury’s cousin Hughie in 2017.

They have since become training partners and inseparable pals, ruling out a future bout between them.
Fury told BT Sport: “Joe’s a friend of mine, and we’ve made it clear we’ll never fight each other anyway.
“I’m Joe’s mental advisor, financial advisor, part-time manager, part-time business partner and part-time mentor and life coach.
“So why would I want to fight that guy? Although, we do a lot of sparring in the gym.”
The two only spar to the body but Parker, 30, has based himself in Fury’s home of Morecombe under coach Andy Lee.
He is also the perfect man to have around for the Gypsy King due to his 2018 fight with Dillian Whyte.

Fury, 33, fights Whyte, also 33, on April 23 at Wembley Stadium and has been getting tips from Parker, who was beaten by the Brit on points.
The WBC champion said: “Joe’s been over here for about a year now, I believe. We call him ‘Morecombe Joe’ now.
“Great guy to have around camp, obviously he’s fought Dillian Whyte before, he knows what Dillian Whyte does best and what he does bad.
“So it’s very, very handy to have Joe in camp, giving me those advice tips.”

Tyson Fury reveals he applauded Sky Sports’ Adam Smith when presenter took offence to Johnny Nelson’s verdict on Usyk

TYSON FURY has revealed he applauded Sky Sports’ Adam Smith when he slammed Johnny Nelson for labelling Oleksandr Usyk an ‘average southpaw’. Nelson, who was cruiserweight world champion between 1999 and 2005, incredibly claimed last year that pound-for-pound superstar Usyk was not a standout boxer compared to other southpaws.

Sky Sports presenter and commentator Smith took umbrage to that view.
And Fury has now revealed he agreed with Smith in slamming Nelson’s controversial point.
Grabbing the mic and interviewing the Sky man on iFL TV, Fury said: “A couple of months ago Johnny Nelson said to you that Oleksandr Usyk is an average southpaw cruiserweight.
“And I was actually very impressed with your thing. You was absolutely livid, absolutely boiling. You was like ‘arghhhh’. Can you tell us a bit more about it?”
And Smith explained: “I was doing an interview and Johnny just said he was an average southpaw and I just took complete offence to that.
“I think he is a fantastic fighter. I think he was a wonderful amateur. He was brilliant against Joshua and I thought that was a disgraceful thing for my good friend and colleague to say.

“But there we go, that’s his opinion.”
Fury then replied: “I was actually clapping in the room because that was amazing. So well done for that.”
Usyk, an Olympic gold medallist from London 2012, beat Anthony Joshua by unanimous decision at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September to claim the IBF, WBA and WBO world titles.
Since then, there have been ongoing talks about a rematch.
But those discussions have taken a back seat since former undisputed cruiserweight champion Usyk decided to fight on the frontline for his country against the Russian invasion.
And Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has confirmed – with Usyk’s situation in Ukraine taking priority – that AJ may consider an interim bout while he waits for the chance to become a three-time world heavyweight champion.
Hearn said: “It’s difficult to speak on behalf of Oleksandr Usyk.
“Firstly, my thoughts are with everybody in Ukraine and people showing incredible bravery out there, particularly some of the great fighters of the past and Oleksandr as well.
“He can have the time that he needs. We [Joshua’s camp] don’t want any other fight but Oleksandr Usyk.
“Whether there’s a delay for that fight and we have an interim bout, I guess that’s subject to the situation with Oleksandr Usyk and how much time he needs.
“It’s a very emotional time and personal time for the people of Ukraine. So we’ll respect them and give them all the time, but we wouldn’t be looking to get out of our obligation, is what I’m saying.
“The only fight AJ wants right now is Oleksandr Usyk. If we have to fight in between, no problem at all, but we’ll respect this time for Oleksandr Usyk and speak to his advisers.

“If there needs to be a delay for the contractual period, we will be happy to grant that, but we want that fight.
“We don’t want that obligation to slide away.”
Meanwhile, Fury will defend his WBC title against fellow Brit Dillian Whyte at Wembley Stadium on April 23. More

‘It will give him issues’ – Sergio Mora predicts Canelo Alvarez will struggle to deal with Dmitry Bivol’s jab

FORMER boxing world champion Sergio Mora believes Dmitry Bivol will cause Canelo Alvarez issues but says he will have to be special to beat the Mexican.Alvarez, 31, has not lost since he fought all-time great Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

And although WBA Super light-heavyweight champion Bivol is unbeaten in his professional career he has just 19 fights under his belt compared to Alvarez’s 60.
Mora expects Bivol’s jab to trouble Alvarez however, but suggests the Russian will have to show a whole lot more to win the fight.
Mora told Fighthype: “He’s going to have to be special because Bivol is going to have to get out of character in order to beat Canelo.
“That jab [from Bivol] is going to give him issues, and the power and size is going to give Canelo issues. But it’s not going to be enough to win.
“Caleb Plant gave Canelo some issues with the jab, some issues with the movement.
“But he didn’t have the experience, size, or the power to do anything else, and ultimately, he got knocked out in the 11th.

“[Sergey] Kovalev had the size but didn’t have the commitment and got knocked out in the 11th.
“I think Bivol might be in the same boat. He’s going to have to show up and show out.”
Alvarez dispatched Plant quite easily to unify the division in November 2021 and he is now seeking yet another belt to add to his collection.
If he wins the WBA super light heavyweight title there will not be much left for Alvarez to accomplish in boxing so he could give in and grant Kamaru Usman’s wish to fight him. More

The disturbing 14 second clip from an unknown beachside location shows a wannabe coach unleashing shots on defenceless budding fighters.
Clearly under instruction not to fight back or try and defend, three men can be seen allowing the coach to tee off numerous shots without reply.
Noticing the clip, Bellew warned against such dangerous exercises.
The 39-year-old wrote: “Just to be clear this isn’t a training method it’s just STUPIDITY!
“You train and prepare how you fight!
“When do you just stand there and let someone tee off with 4/5 punch combinations? NEVER!

And while he prepares to face Usyk, Joshua has decided to antagonise another rival in Fury.
Joshua responded to a fan who mocked Fury’s plans to retire after his April 23 fight with Dillian Whyte.
The fan said: “Tyson Fury says he’s hanging up as the best to do it with a resume of [Derek] Chisora, [Wladimir] Klitschko, [Otto] Wallin and [Deontay] Wilder three times.”
Joshua quoted the tweet and quipped: “He is the best to do it I can’t disagree.”
A date for Joshua’s fight with Usyk is yet to be decided, with the heavyweight champion back in his home country.
Usyk returned to Ukraine to take up arms and fight off the Russian invasion.

In the meantime, Joshua is open to a rematch with Fury’s best pal Joseph Parker.
New Zealander Parker, 30, was beaten by AJ in 2018, and has already volunteered to replace Usyk.
