‘It will give him issues’ – Sergio Mora predicts Canelo Alvarez will struggle to deal with Dmitry Bivol’s jab

FORMER boxing world champion Sergio Mora believes Dmitry Bivol will cause Canelo Alvarez issues but says he will have to be special to beat the Mexican.Alvarez, 31, has not lost since he fought all-time great Floyd Mayweather in 2013.

And although WBA Super light-heavyweight champion Bivol is unbeaten in his professional career he has just 19 fights under his belt compared to Alvarez’s 60.
Mora expects Bivol’s jab to trouble Alvarez however, but suggests the Russian will have to show a whole lot more to win the fight.
Mora told Fighthype: “He’s going to have to be special because Bivol is going to have to get out of character in order to beat Canelo.
“That jab [from Bivol] is going to give him issues, and the power and size is going to give Canelo issues. But it’s not going to be enough to win.
“Caleb Plant gave Canelo some issues with the jab, some issues with the movement.
“But he didn’t have the experience, size, or the power to do anything else, and ultimately, he got knocked out in the 11th.

“[Sergey] Kovalev had the size but didn’t have the commitment and got knocked out in the 11th.
“I think Bivol might be in the same boat. He’s going to have to show up and show out.”
Alvarez dispatched Plant quite easily to unify the division in November 2021 and he is now seeking yet another belt to add to his collection.
If he wins the WBA super light heavyweight title there will not be much left for Alvarez to accomplish in boxing so he could give in and grant Kamaru Usman’s wish to fight him. More

The disturbing 14 second clip from an unknown beachside location shows a wannabe coach unleashing shots on defenceless budding fighters.
Clearly under instruction not to fight back or try and defend, three men can be seen allowing the coach to tee off numerous shots without reply.
Noticing the clip, Bellew warned against such dangerous exercises.
The 39-year-old wrote: “Just to be clear this isn’t a training method it’s just STUPIDITY!
“You train and prepare how you fight!
“When do you just stand there and let someone tee off with 4/5 punch combinations? NEVER!

‘He’s the best to do it’ – Anthony Joshua trolls Tyson Fury over fight record after rival announces retirement

ANTHONY JOSHUA has trolled rival Tyson Fury over his fight record after the WBC world heavyweight champion announced his retirement. The former WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO champ is preparing for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk having lost to the Ukrainian last year.

And while he prepares to face Usyk, Joshua has decided to antagonise another rival in Fury.
Joshua responded to a fan who mocked Fury’s plans to retire after his April 23 fight with Dillian Whyte.
The fan said: “Tyson Fury says he’s hanging up as the best to do it with a resume of [Derek] Chisora, [Wladimir] Klitschko, [Otto] Wallin and [Deontay] Wilder three times.”
Joshua quoted the tweet and quipped: “He is the best to do it I can’t disagree.”
A date for Joshua’s fight with Usyk is yet to be decided, with the heavyweight champion back in his home country.
Usyk returned to Ukraine to take up arms and fight off the Russian invasion.

Tommy Fury starts ‘first day of camp’ as Love Island star eyes fight on brother Tyson’s undercard amid Jake Paul talks

TOMMY FURY started his ‘first day of camp’ as he eyes a fight on his brother Tyson’s undercard. The 2019 Love Island star last boxed in August, beating Jake Paul’s sparring partner Anthony Taylor, 32, on his US debut.

Tommy Fury started his ‘first day of camp’ as he eyes a fight on his brother Tyson’s undercard
He then signed to fight YouTube star Paul, 25, but had to pull out of the grudge match after suffering a broken rib and having a chest infection.
But Fury, 22, wants to return the night brother Tyson, 33, fights Dillian Whyte, also 33, on April 23 at Wembley Stadium.
And he appears to be training for a fight as he posted a series of training and diet pictures online, captioning: “First day of camp.”
Paul has recently accused his Fury of faking the injury to avoid risking his reputation in the all-celebrity bout.
So he hit back to deny the claim and insisted he will push ahead with his boxing career – with or without fighting the American.
Fury told EsNEWS: “I think it’s ludicrous, I think he’s using my injury as a play point like, ‘He didn’t want the fight’. When really, it was a genuine injury.

KAMARU USMAN urged Canelo Alvarez to ‘give the world a show’ as he called out the boxer to a Mexican Independence Day fight. The UFC champion wants to face Canelo in September, on the weekend of the landmark holiday.

He told BT Sport: “Mexican Independence Day, I think it’s only right for me and Canelo to give the world a show, give the world the entertainment they so desire.
“You know, I’ve said it before, it can’t be done until someone does do it. I respect him, he’s a great champion, he’s the pound-for-pound best.
“I have to show him that respect but he needs to show me that respect as well.”
Canelo has refused to rule out the crossover fight but claimed Usman is only after a ‘payday’.
He said on the MMA Hour: “Maybe. Why not? You never say no. My trainer told me about it and I said, ‘Well, if you say.’”
Canelo, 31, added: “It’s not really on my mind. I want a really good legacy for my career and we can talk about other things later.”

In 2017, UFC legend Conor McGregor, 33, was given permission to fight boxing icon Floyd Mayweather, 45, but lost in ten rounds.
Usman, the UFC’s No1 rated fighter, eyes a similar bout with Canelo after the door was left open for talks.
He said: “I think he said this week, yeah that’s a fight they brought to him that he’s interested in.
“So yeah, let’s make it happen, if he’s interested, his camp is interested, we’re interested, let’s make it happen.
“Never before have pound-for-pound – in their respected sports – ever got together like this.”
UFC fighters are prohibited from competing outside of the promotion unless given special exemption, like McGregor was.
Usman, 34, admitted talks with the UFC and promoter Dana White are yet to take place but urged his boss to get on board.

He said: “Well, those conversations are still to be had.
“But, you know like I’ve said, this fight will be the greatest and the biggest fight ever in the history of combat sports.
“And that’s because we’ve got to have the biggest and the baddest promoter ever in the history of combat sports, Dana White, behind us.”
Usman’s last fight, a win against Colby Covington, 34, in November fell on the same night Canelo beat Caleb Plant, 29.
White was pictured watching Canelo’s win from cageside and warned Usman against ever fighting the boxing star.
He joked: “I watched the Canelo fight tonight. You don’t want to fight Canelo.
“Come on, man, let’s stop this s***. If Canelo wants to come over here, let’s do it. He don’t want to box Canelo.”

Tyson Fury denies being dropped by Dillian Whyte ahead of fight and claims he used rival as ‘a punching bag’ in sparring

TYSON FURY denied being dropped by Dillian Whyte in sparring and claimed: ‘I used him as a punching bag’. The heavyweight rivals, both 33, climbed the ranks together and were former training partners.

Fury claimed he used Dillian Whyte as ‘a punching bag’ in sparring
But over the years their relationship soured and is due to be settled on April 23 at Wembley.
In the past, Whyte claimed he floored Fury on more than one occasion during one of their now-famed sparring sessions.
He said on Sky Sports: “I don’t like telling sparring stories, but people in the game know. They know about me.
“Well, me and Tyson Fury sparred and I bashed him about and dropped him on multiple occasions. Simple as that.”
But Fury tells a different story, one that includes beating Whyte so badly his cousin Hughie, a teenager at the time, had to replace him.
He told Carl Frampton for BT Sport: “I’ve sparred Dillian Whyte many, many times. And every single time I used him as a punching bag.

“There were times when he couldn’t defend himself and there was a time where we had to stop the sparring and Hughie had to spar him, my cousin Hughie instead.
“Hughie was about 18 at the time and he used to batter him.
“All these stories of him knocking me down 25 times in sparring – highly unlikely anyone believes that rubbish.”
Fury was quick to again refute Whyte’s sparring allegation – but insisted it would not matter even if it was true.
He said: “There’s no substance to it, knocking me down umpteen times and all that.
“Just say he did knock me down eight times in sparring, we all know sparring ain’t fighting, is it?
“How many times have you seen people in the gym get absolutely busted up and then on fight night they boxed like Sugar Ray Leonard?
“Sometimes you don’t have good days in the gym, bad days whatever, but sparring ain’t fighting.
“And just for the record, he never knocked me down once. I’ve never been knocked down in a spar, ever.”

Before the grudge match, he had signed a new contract which made him one of the UFC’s highest-paid stars.
And even after his most heartbreaking of setbacks, Masvidal warned it would not be the last of him.
He tweeted: “Far from over. I will be back.”
Talk soon turned to what could be next for Masvidal, now beaten in his last three fights.
The Cuban-American, 37, was in 2020 linked with a fight against McGregor, having enjoyed a meteoric rise the year before.
But he would instead fight Kamaru Usman, 34, losing by decision in July 2021 before suffering a knockout in their rematch last April.

McGregor, 33, having also lost consecutively to Dustin Poirier, 33, in 2021, was once again raised as a potential opponent for Masvidal.
UFC president Dana White once said the welterweight contender was ‘too big’ for former two-weight champ McGregor.
But Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa shot down any suggestion of a size discrepancy having seen McGregor at a recent Bellator event in Ireland.
Kawa tweeted: “I saw McGregor in Dublin. He’s not small. He looked like he walks around 195-200lbs jacked.”
White admitted he does not know what is next for Masvidal or Covington, 34, who secured bragging rights with a points win.
The UFC chief said: “I don’t know, that’s a good question. We knew tonight, whoever lost, ‘What would be next?’ and ‘Where would they go?’
“And I don’t know, sitting right here, right now, I don’t know. On either one of them, even Colby, who won.”
