      Muhammad Ali’s grandson Biaggio Ali Walsh set for MMA debut and reveals mum’s fears over continuing family tradition

      MUHAMMAD ALI’S grandson is primed to make his fighting debut tonight. Biaggio Ali Walsh, 23, will battle it out for the first time on Fusion Fight League’s Rumble Under the Rims.

      But unlike his grandfather, Ali Walsh has not pursued a career in professional boxing.
      Instead he features on the undercard of the FITE MMA event in Montana.
      The coronavirus pandemic has delayed Ali Walsh’s MMA debut, but he has spent the last two years training in anticipation of his first bout.
      And ahead of the fight he has spoken of his pride about continuing the family tradition, despite his mother being “nervous” about him going into combat sport.

      He said: “I want to become a champion. To me, it doesn’t matter the organisation or promotion.
      “I just want to make a name for myself and continue the tradition of fighting in my family.”
      Ali Walsh added about his mother: “She is nervous as any mother would be. But she will support me and be by my side with anything I want to do.”
      After playing American Football at college Ali Walsh spent time modelling, although now he is fully focused on his MMA career.

      He said: “There is no balance between modelling and training because I am rarely ever modelling.
      “My last modelling job was in 2020 so those type of gigs do not happen so often.
      “I am solely focused on finishing college and getting better in the gym.
      “If a paid modelling job were to come up, I want to make sure it works around my school and gym.”
      Hailing from the same family as one of boxing’s greatest ever fighters, Ali Walsh says his striking ability is one of his strong points.
      He revealed: “I would say that growing up in the world of boxing would make me a striker but I do find myself pretty well-rounded.
      “I began training with no specific base and started learning all the disciplines at the same time.
      “I did no previous combat sports before MMA. I was always just a huge fan of martial arts and boxing.”
      Ali-Walsh’s younger brother Nico has also gone into fighting.
      The 21-year-old has followed directly in the footsteps of the great Ali to become a professional boxer, and currently boasts a 5-0 pro record.
      He has the same trainer as Tyson Fury – boxing icon Sugarhill Steward.

      TYSON FURY’S undefeated record almost ended when he was just 22 after he was knocked down by an unknown Canadian.The Gypsy King has been handed numerous tough tests along the way, including in his epic trilogy win over Deontay Wilder.

      One of the most notable came in 2011 when Fury took on little-known Neven Pajkic for the Commonwealth heavyweight title.
      Fury had brushed aside 16 opponents as a professional before his bout with Pajkic but was given a real wake-up call in Manchester in front of his own fans.
      The now 44-year-old is known as the first man to knock Fury down to the canvas when he caught him with a right hook in the second round.
      After the build-up in which Pajkic described Fury as “having an ugly face”, he reminisced to Sky Sports: “I only cracked him with 30 per cent.
      “I didn’t expect him to go down. I practised the right hand, left hook. To my surprise, he fell after the first punch.

      Fury would get back on his feet before getting his revenge in the third round when he knocked out his opponent.
      Pajkic then realised at that moment he was fighting a future champion.
      He added: “He overcame adversity on that night and showed his championship mentality.”
      Fury’s most famous comeback came against Wilder in their first fight when he somehow managed to climb up from the canvas after brutally being floored in round 12 to salvage a controversial draw.

      He would have to wait 14 months to land his rematch with the American before being crowned WBC Champ.
      It was a similar story in their trilogy as in the fourth round Wilder twice dropped Fury, who scored a knockdown the round before, but got to his feet.
      He then floored Wilder in the tenth and 11th, where the fight was won once and for all.
      Pajkic says Fury’s will to get back up and fight separates him from the rest of the division.
      He added: “There is no man that can’t go down. If 250lbs cracks you on the chin, you are going down.
      “Fury keeps his hands down often and drops the left shoulder when he jabs, so he leaves himself exposed more than he should.

      August 13 is understood to be the new working date for the Saudi showdown, which promoter Eddie Hearn hopes to announce soon.
      The Matchroom Boxing told iFL TV: “I’m very confident you’ll have news next week. I know I’ve said that before, but it’s been a long process.

      Bjornsson, 33, stunned the world of boxing when he dismantled strongman rival Hall in March with a confident performance.

      Former super-featherweight champion Garcia never envisaged training a heavyweight contender, telling Little Giant Boxing: “I always thought heavyweights maybe was not a good idea because it’s different.
      “Their way of training is a lot different than a lightweight. We’re used to doing a lot of rounds on mitts, speed work and running a lot more. With heavyweights, it’s a different story.”
      Garcia made two secret trips to the UK to train with AJ before his appointment was confirmed and has been thoroughly impressed by the Brit’s work ethic.

      Since 1951, 28 of the shy youngsters who were voted Best Young Boxer fulfilled their early promise and justified the faith in their ability by winning world titles.

      Sheeraz, 22 nine days ago – who is mature beyond his years – knows he’s got much to live up to and has mapped out and invested in his future with military precision.

      Hamzah who started boxing when he was eight years old explaining why he turned pro at at just 18 said: “I never set sights on being an Olympian or going to world amateur championships. I just didn’t have much interest in it. Winning pro titles is just so much more appealing to me.”
      For more than 100 years the sons of immigrants have always been the backbone of boxing in this country – Ted ‘Kid’ Lewis, Lloyd Honeyghan, Maurice Hope, Conteh, Hamed, Calzaghe and Khan are classic examples.

      I said how refreshing it was that so many kids of Asian descent were now taking up boxing and asked him if it’s because they are inspired by Khan’s illustrious career. He said “That has got something to do with it but mainly it’s the result of a change in parental attitude.
      “Asian parents always emphasised the importance of education because they wanted their sons and daughters to be doctors or lawyers. ”
      “Now they can see their children can benefit their lives through sports like boxing.” But he added “It’s not easy for us South Asians to break through like Amir.”
      It won’t surprise many to know Sheeraz – who lives in Ilford – inevitably has been the victim of racism. Going to his car after a training session he found a threatening note on the windscreen which read “Don’t park here again” along with an obscene racist slur.
      Hamzah said “It wasn’t the best thing to come back to but it takes a lot to break me. I will carry-on spreading positivity and love and try to get these bitter people to understand we all bleed red.”
