Hasim Rahman Jr to STILL weigh in on Friday despite Jake Paul fight cancellation in bid to prove he could make 205lb

HASIM RAHMAN JR plans to STILL weigh in on Friday despite his fight with Jake Paul being cancelled – bidding to prove he can make 205lb. The pair were due to headline at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden on the weekend.

But following a weight disagreement between the two, the entire pay-per-view event was axed.
Rahman signed to fight at the 14st 4lb cruiserweight limit of 200lb, despite being 16 stone in his last fight in April.
So the New York State Athletic Commission wanted to track his weight cut.
And after Rahman struggled to drop the pounds, the fight weight was changed to 205lb.

But Paul claimed his opponent demanded it be at no lower than 215lb, which prompted the YouTube star to scrap the whole event.
Rahman has now insisted he was willing to fight at 205lb and will prove it by hitting the scales on Friday, their scheduled weigh-in day.
He said: “We can fight at 205lb that is no problem to me, we can get it on.
“I’m definitely highly interested in hurting this man and it would not be at a detriment to me to do it at 205lb.

“I am ready to do that I will make 205lb on Friday.”
After the fight weight change, a fresh contract had to be signed, but Rahman claimed the bout was cancelled before he could agree terms.
In a statement by Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions company, they say the son of former heavyweight champ Rahman Sr wanted to fight no less than 215lb.
MVP said: “Upon receiving this new contract Saturday morning, Rahman’s camp indicated for the very first time that he planned to weigh 215lb at the official weigh-in and would not agree to weigh in at 205lb and informing Most Valuable Promotions that they are pulling out of the fight unless the fight was agreed to at 215lb.”

British heavyweight Joe Joyce set to fight ex-world champ and Tyson Fury’s good friend Joseph Parker on September 24 PPV

JOE JOYCE and Joseph Parker have made another U-turn with their fight back on. The pair were in negotiations to box each other having come face-to-face at Tyson Fury’s last fight in April.

But suddenly, Parker signed with Boxxer and Sky Sports, seemingly ending hopes of a BT bout against Joyce.
Promoter Frank Warren blasted the former WBO champion for scuppering their deal.
But now the fight is back on and set for September 24 on BT Box Office.
The heavyweights were first due to fight in July but Parker’s trainer Andy Lee was expecting a child, meaning it got scrapped.

And in between negotiating a new date, Sky swooped in to sign the New Zealander.
Joyce, 36, later returned in July, beating Christian Hammer, 34, in four rounds of his keep-busy bout.
Bizarrely, Sky could not find Parker, 30, a worthwhile opponent in their own stable, with rival stars on separate networks.
So the Kiwi has now been sent over enemy lines where he will be the underdog as the away fighter on a Joyce and Warren show.

Londoner Joyce is currently the WBO mandatory challenger for the title held by Oleksandr Usyk, 35.
But the Ukrainian is already tied down to a rematch with Anthony Joshua, 32, on August 20 in Saudi Arabia, following his win last year.
And even after the rematch, the winner is expected to then force Fury, 34, out of retirement for an undisputed decider.
Joyce is therefore left to play the waiting game but appears unwilling to do so against no-named opponents.
Parker won the title in 2017 but lost it to AJ a year later in his first defence.

And Joshua proved he is putting in the hard yards as he ramps up his preparation for fight night.
Decked out in his Under Armour gear, AJ shared the snaps on Instagram.
He was drenched in sweat on the exercise bike then was cooled down by a member of his team squirting water down his neck and then looked a lot fresher as he stretched out at the end of the session.
He captioned the post: “Warm up ➡️ war ➡️ warm down #TheOnlyWayIsThrough.”

Joshua is aiming to win back the WBA, IBF and WBO titles he lost to Usyk at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in September.
The rematch takes place on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – dubbed the Rage on the Red Sea.
And plenty used the comments section to send their encouragement.

Another added: “Can’t wait for you to become three-time heavyweight champion.”
Joshua is already in Saudi after heading out on a private jet to train in the country and get fully prepared for Usyk.
His gym set-up was done by Ringcraft and includes a ring for sparring, punchbags, speedballs, treadmills, bikes, weights and an air-conditioning unit to ensure he keeps cool.
The 24-2 fighter has brought in Robert Garcia and Angel Fernandez to train him, having parted ways with Rob McCracken after his first defeat to Usyk.

Former world champ David Haye told AJ he must rough his opponent up so much that he risks disqualification after he was outclassed in North London.
The Hayemaker told Gareth A. Davies: “I’m going to go with Anthony Joshua again.
“He applied probably the worst tactics you could do against a southpaw. Gave him range, was respectful inside, in close.
“There were no warnings from the ref about deducting points because he never imposed himself.
“He should be this close to getting a point deducted or disqualified, that’s how physical he needs to be because he’s a specimen like no other in the heavyweight division.

“He is physically the supreme heavyweight right now.
“He just needs to apply that into a style that’s useful and last time round it wasn’t very useful at all and this time around he really has to do it. And I believe he will do it.”

Tyson Fury’s comeback fight plans revealed with Brit wanting to take on Game of Thrones star or a Derek Chisora trilogy

TYSON FURY has a couple of crazy ideas for his boxing comeback. The 33-year-old WBC Gypsy King signed off on his April 23 knockout of Dillian Whyte by teasing a cross-sport showdown with UFC heavyweight champ Francis Ngannou.

But the Cameroonian giant – who was in the Wembley ring after the brilliant uppercut KO – is still recovering from a knee injury.
Game of Thrones actor Hafthor Bjornsson was top of Fury’s hit list for an exhibition bout at Tottenham Stadium.
The giant pair have gone back-and-forth on social media but Fury’s backers understandably remain unsure on how that celebrity spectacle would sell on the turnstiles and pay-per-view television.
Fury’s back-up plan is a third fight with old mate Derek Chisora – who he already has two convincing wins over – but again it looks like a hard sell.

Few fans interested in seeing the undefeated 6ft 9in champ in against a popular but battle-worn 38-year-old.
The British heavyweight pair are firm friends but even started drumming up some faux needle after Del Boy backed Whyte to beat Fury when they finally met on St George’s Day.
Spurs – who hosted Anthony Joshua’s September loss to Oleksandr Usyk – play away at Bournemouth on October 29 and that date and venue is fancied by Team Fury.
The Mexico-based WBC gave the Morecambe mastermind a year to decide on his future because there is no clear mandatory challenger pushing for a shot at Fury’s belt.

No1 contender Deontay Wilder is teasing a comeback, after returning to training this week.
While No3 ranked Joseph Parker and No2 ranked Joe Joyce are trying to arrange a fight between themselves for this autumn.
That leaves Fury free to enjoy his “retirement” while still training like a Trojan and coming up with money-spinning ideas to keep himself in shape.
The WWE is hosting a huge Cardiff show on September 3 – dubbed the Clash at the Castle – and the Gypsy King would be a perfect addition to the show.
But the cash on offer is nothing like the staggering £11million he earned from wrestling in Saudi Arabia for the American brand in 2019.
Everyone in boxing expects Fury to leap out of retirement and face the winner of AJ vs Usyk 2 on August 20, to decide an undisputed heavyweight emperor.

Joshua, 32, would certainly be the more lucrative fight for Fury, the biggest in the history of British sport.
And even if the Watford ace loses again to the Ukraine southpaw, there’s always a chance Fury and his devoted WBC sanctioning body find a way for him to fight Joshua instead of Usyk.

Mike Tyson would KO sparring partners quickly so he could get home in time for Tom and Jerry, says ex-bodyguard

MIKE Tyson would destroy training partners in minutes not for pleasure – but to just get home quickly to watch TV. Tyson often turned a planned five-hour sparring session into less than 60 minutes of destruction because he was desperate to watch cartoons.

That is the insight from Tyson’s confidante, ex bodyguard and chauffeur Rudy Gonzalez, who had a ringside seat at fights and home battles during the New Yorker’s rise to infamy.
Speaking earlier this year, Gonzalez said: “When we trained in Vegas his sparring sessions were from 12 to 5pm.
“He would be the nicest guy beforehand asking the sparring partners: ‘How you doing today, how’s the family?’
“Then he would just knock five guys out so within an hour there was nobody left.

“I saw him punch the heavy bag so hard it broke a few times from the chains and the other boxers would just leave saying: ‘we are not f****** with you today. I do not care how much money you pay me.’
“Anyone who felt they were up for taking him on, he would hit them and they’d snap. Soon after they would pack their bags.
“So one day I asked: ‘Boss I am confused, isn’t this about working on techniques?
“He replied: ‘If I keep it going we will miss Tom and Jerry cartoons.’”

Tyson, who returned to the ring in an eight-round exhibition with Roy Jones Jr in 2020, has retained his love for cartoons, making his own Mike Tyson Mysteries series for Adult Swim.
Gonzalez was by Tyson’s side as he rose from the most terrifying teenage boxer in history to become the youngest heavyweight champion of all time aged 20.
Under the guidance of legendary trainer Cus D’Amato, who became Tyson’s legal guardian after serving time in juvenile prison, he transformed from teen criminal into a street fighting hoodlum and ultimately a polished power punching boxing phenom.
While living with D’Amato at his Catskills home, his training was far more regimented.
D’Amato passed months before Tyson became heavyweight champion in 1986.
    BUILDING A BOXING FRANKENSTEIN
Gonzalez said: “When I first worked with him he had to be home by 9pm, because we were running 10 miles in the morning.
“His manager Jim Jacob and trainer Kevin Rooney along with Cus would make sure I enforced that training schedule.
“Mike was so disciplined. He would sit upstairs in the house studying boxing films for hours, seeing how different fighters moved and hit.
“Cus was injecting him with centuries of training. The peek a boo technique – it felt so clean and natural for him. Cus built a boxing Frankenstein.
“Cus would repeat over and over to Mike from the beginning, ‘Do you know you’re going to be heavyweight champion of the world someday?’
“If you say it enough times, you believe it. And if you believe it, then you’ll have no doubt.”
Gonzalez, whose book about his Tyson experiences – The Inner Ring – is being developed into an animated movie, added that other staff were terrified of Tyson during his training time.
Gonzalez has made headlines in the past with his book about his time with Tyson, pointing the finger at promoter Don King for many of the star’s troubles.
He claims King ‘psychologically broke him’, adding: “Mike’s story would have had a different ending if Cus had lived longer.
“His sister Denise always made me promise to keep Mike away from Don, calling him a clown.”
He claimed that he witnessed ‘deceit, betrayal, and fraud perpetrated’ upon Tyson

After losing his trilogy bout with Tyson Fury, Wilder will be aiming to get himself back in the title picture.
Having snubbed a call out from Derek Chisora, the American is targeting a more high-profile bout.
Former cruiserweight world champion Johnny Nelson revealed that he thinks Wilder won’t fight again after having his “pride hurt” by Fury.
But Wilder’s manager Shelly Finkel reckons that his man will face the winner of Usyk and Joshua.

He told Planet Sport: “Maybe the winner of Usyk and Joshua. I don’t know what Fury is doing?
“Maybe if Joshua wins it’s a huge fight in the UK – there’s so many intangibles so we’re looking to see what happens in that fight [Usyk v Joshua 2].
“I don’t care what Fury says, we’re waiting to see what he really wants to do because if he wants to fight the winner then he’s going to get it. But after that, where are the top guys?
“There’s only four real top guys in the heavyweights right now – Usyk, Joshua, Fury and Deontay.”
Another option would be Andy Ruiz Jr, with Joshua’s former conqueror admitting he would “love” to face Wilder.
Frank Warren, meanwhile, thinks that the 36-year-old will return against Robert Helenius later this year.

But following a weight disagreement between the two, the entire pay-per-view event was axed.
Rahman signed to fight at the 14st 4lb cruiserweight limit of 200lb, despite being 16 stone in his last fight in April.
And he also had to weigh in at 215lb on the morning of the bout with 25 per cent of his purse lost for every 1lb overweight.
It meant if Rahman went just 4lb over, he would have been left with the $5,000 minimum.

A visa issue prevented ex-Love Island star Fury from entering America for that showdown – although Paul is adamant that the WBC champion Tyson Fury’s brother is just “scared” to face him.
However, another one of the YouTuber’s bitter rivals has offered to help him get the fight on in England.
KSI is currently preparing to headline his own event in London against Wassabi – and he is ready to let Paul on the card to battle Fury.
According to TalkSport’s Michael Benson, he said: “Jake should’ve accepted my offer, should’ve fought on my undercard,.
“There’s still time, you can fight Tommy Fury on my undercard.”
KSI and Wassabi will go one-on-one at the O2 Arena on Saturday 27 August.
Paul, who is 5-0 in the ring, had a heated face-off with fellow YouTuber KSI – real name Olajide Olatunji – after winning his professional debut against AnEson Gib in January 2020.
Their staredown came two months after KSI’s controversial split-decision victory over Paul’s older brother Logan in November 2019.
