      “In America, they still look at you as soon as you walk in their gym but they look right through you and then, when sparring starts, they want to batter the English kid with the silver medal.
      “I sometimes walk in and see guys tapping each other in their spar and, when I get, those same guys are trying to kill me.
      “I like that mindset, it is only going to make me stronger. Being around people who refuse to take it easy on you, or mollycoddle you makes you a stronger fighter.
      “I think getting out of your comfort zone, after leaving the Olympics or the Team GB set-up, is the best thing to do.”

      Whittaker’s recent Sky Sports interviews have a distinct American flavour, full of trash talk and money matters.
      But away from the camera he opens up about missing friends, his own bed and simple trips to Asda for his favourite home comforts.
      The Anthony Joshua-managed ace insists he is not acting up, just getting to grips with his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and hard-earned fighting fame.
      “I have two sides to me,” he explained. “It might be something to do with my ADHD. 
      “Sometimes I get in front of the camera and get a bit excited, because I am not media trained, if I wake up with an idea then I usually come out with it on the stage.
      “But away from boxing I am a very humble guy. I work hard and am just trying to change the lives of all my family.
      “In boxing though, I do sometimes get into a little character and talk some rubbish, there are two sides to me.”

      Tyson recently gave his verdict on who would win in a battle of Britain clash between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
      The Gypsy King has confirmed he will come out of retirement to fight AJ – but only if the bout if put on for FREE.
      And Tyson reckons the undefeated Fury is “too elusive” for Joshua, and would come out on top.

      Smith was gunned down by an unnamed 61-year-old assailant, who later shot himself in the head after the crime and is not expected to survive.
      The former fighter met his would-be killer in a seafood restaurant where he accompanied an alleged girlfriend to talk through divorce proceedings with the man.
      The two parties reportedly spoke for 20 minutes before things turned heated, with the suspect then leaving the restaurant.
      But he returned and shot Smith several times, missing his wife and the other restaurant patrons with the 13 rounds he let off.

      In another, the beauty is surrounded by family in her kitchen – sipping a coffee and laughing.

      Height of luxury
      The Furys don’t skimp when it comes to high-end luxury.
      Tyson practically lives in a set of £390 Versace gowns, while Paris is a huge fan of the Italian fashion brand.
      Paris told us her favourite part of the house was her walk-in wardrobe.

      Paris once described Tyson as ‘a bit of a clean freak’, so you can bet you won’t find a spec of dust anywhere.

      According to land registry records, Fury bought the property for £1.695million in December 2020.
      It was paid for by their firm Tyson Fury Ltd, and is mortage-free.

      The Furys have six children
      They used to live in a £550,000 house that overlooked Morecambe Bay, before moving to a new plot that was once home to a static caravan-style.
      However, the previous owner had it demolished and replaced it with a stone-clad palace – complete with a water fountain on the driveway.
      In terms of security, the property has a castellated front wall, and a wrought-iron black and gold fence. Of course, that boasts its own lavish decor – with lion motifs and four eagle sculptures on the gate posts.
      Unwanted burglars are warned off by signs that reveal the home is guarded by CCTV.
      Tyson Fury has previously boasted about having an expensive property portfolio.
      He once revealed he had bought a mansion in Marbella for £6million, although that was never confirmed.
      While last year, he claimed to have splashed the cash on a home in Las Vegas, which again was never substantiated.
      But Fury’s love affair with Morecambe knows no bounds.
      He recently agreed to sponsor League One side Morecambe FC. And he appeared at the nearby Sultan of Lancaster Experience restaurant where he cut the red ribbon to open the establishment.

      Yet astonishingly McGuigan – inspired by wearing the green vest – showed the fighting qualities that was to later endear him to millions of fans.

      Chatting to Barry this week I asked him – as it was so long ago – if he could remember the name of the opponent he beat in the final.

      “That’s because he hit me with a right hand that nearly took my head off. Nobody throughout my amateur and professional career hit me harder.
      “Anyone who puts down Commonwealth Games boxing as second rate has no idea how tough and competitive it is.
      “My experience and victory in Edmonton made me realise if I trained hard and lived the life I was capable of turning pro with the prospect of a successful career.”
      McGuigan went on to win the world featherweight title and become a legend.

      Conteh was a brilliant 19-year-old middleweight who electrified the crowd when he became the Commonwealth champion.
      Typically my favourite Scouser – when I asked if he could remember who he beat 52 years ago – said: ” I’m 71… if I could remember that I would be asking for my pro licence back!”
