      Chris Eubank Jr confirms he WILL fight against Conor Benn days after dad demanded he pull out of bout amid safety fears

      CHRIS EUBANK JR has confirmed he WILL fight Conor Benn – just days after his dad demanded the bout be called off amid safety concerns. The pair of next generation stars are set for a 157lb catchweight clash on October 8 at the O2 Arena.

      But the fight for the ages was thrown into doubt after Eubank Sr claimed he wants his son pulled OUT.
      Although Eubank Jr has now taken matters into his own hands to put fans at ease.
      He tweeted: “24 days left until me & Benn scrap for all the marbles.”
      Eubank Jr, 32, is a career 11st 6lb middleweight contender in the 160lb division.

      And he has even campaigned brieifly at 168lb as a super-middleweight.
      Whereas Benn, 25, is a current 10st 7lb welteweight contender.
      So due to the size disparity, the pair have agreed to fight at 157lb, meaning Benn will jump up 10lb.
      But for Eubank Jr, he is faced with cutting to a career-low weight while a limit of what they can weigh the next day is also in place.

      As a result his dad, whose son Sebestian suddenly died aged 29 after a heart attack at sea last year, voiced his concern.
      Eubank Sr said: “This is modern day ‘gladiating’, this is not a play thing for the audience.
      “We have to be strict otherwise lives are put in danger and my son’s life cannot be put in danger. I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again.”

      Despite Sr’s fear, Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed to his Matchroom Boxing channel that the fight is still on.
      Hearn said: “The contract is with Chris Eubank Jr. He has no intention of pulling out of the fight. I think it would cripple his credibility.
      “I think he would have to retire if he did, but he doesn’t want to pull out.
      “He’s getting a massive pay day. He’s very confident about the fight.”

      Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez went from friendly sparring partners to fierce enemies as trilogy bout awaits rivals

      GENNADY GOLOVKIN and Canelo Alvarez were once friendly sparring partners… now they are bitter enemies on the verge of an epic trilogy. The former middleweight opponents have already produced 24 classic rounds together and will renew their rivalry for a third time.

      But their history dates back over a decade, when a 20-year-old Canelo travelled to Big Bear California for sparring with Golovkin, who was 28 at the time.
      Both were world champions, but it was a year before GGG’s Stateside debut and Canelo was still largely unproven.
      Golovkin, now 40, tells SunSport: “We had very good sparring sessions back then. Those were exciting spars to watch.”
      The pair would pose for pictures arm in arm and compliment each other, not knowing they would later share an iconic rivalry.

      But as the years went on, and an inevitable fight grew ever closer, the relationship soured with egos at an all-time high.
      Golovkin recalls: “We had a normal relationship. But he then felt too much of himself.
      “He’s now a big star so the consequences of that was probably a side effect of him shooting to fame.”
      Golovkin never forgave Canelo for vacating the WBC title in 2016 when the Kazakh was mandatory, meaning talks between them collapsed.

      But a year later GGG did get the Mexican in the ring – only to leave it with more frustration.
      Canelo was deemed fortunate to walk away with a disputed draw, setting the scene for a blockbuster rematch 12 months later.
      Again for Golovkin, he felt hard done by after being on the end of a majority points loss, conceding bragging rights to his old gym pal.
      It helped launch Canelo to new heights, the heir to the pound-for-pound throne Floyd Mayweather left in retirement.
      But as the time passed, and with a trilogy not forthcoming, Alvarez’s hate for GGG only grew stronger, despite the win on his record.
      Whereas Golovkin, who controversially lost in the eyes of many ringside, remained indifferent from the animosity.
      Canelo has even said the feud is “personal” – something Triple-G was quick to distance himself from.
      He explains: “I don’t feel any hatred towards him. To me, he’s just an athlete, just another human being. Just a boxer.
      “I guess that’s how he as a human being decided to behave and decided to think of himself, love himself and position himself.”

      Canelo, 32, went on to become a four-division champ after his rematch win over Golovkin, who remained at middleweight.
      But the 160lb legend will move up to super-middleweight for the first time in his career to challenge for Canelo’s undisputed crown.
      The third instalment of their fight collection appears, from the outside at least, to be the most intense.
      But Golovkin insists he acknowledges no difference in the man he has twice gone the distance with – mainly because he chooses not to.
      He says: “I don’t feel like he is any different because I honestly don’t think about him.
      “Too much attention is being placed on him, but he’s not bothering me at all.
      “The way he behaved has shown his true personality, recently.”

      Canelo has vowed to send Golovkin into retirement by putting a brutal beatdown in Las Vegas over the weekend, live on DAZN PPV.
      But ahead of what could be his final fight, GGG quips: “I’m going to retire soon anyway. With his help or without his help.
      “Let’s face it, I’m 40 years old and nearing my retirement.”

      Jake Paul vows to ‘respectfully’ knock out Anderson Silva and says fight with UFC legend will not go past five rounds

      JAKE PAUL has vowed to “respectfully” knock out Anderson Silva next month.The YouTuber turned boxer will look to stretch his unbeaten record in the ring to 6-0 after the ex-UFC star was granted a boxing licence.

      The clash between the much-maligned star and the 48-year-old Brazilian will take place in Phoenix, Arizona on October 29.
      Paul, 25, was originally due to return on August 6 until suffering two fight cancellations.
      The American was twice set to fight Tommy Fury, 23, until the Brit pulled out after suffering an injured rib and due to US visa issues.
      Hasim Rahman Jr, 31, had signed to replace Fury but a weight disagreement with Paul saw their bout cancelled.

      Paul last fought in December, knocking out Fury’s substitute Tyron Woodley, 40, who he had already beaten on points four months earlier.
      That added to KOs over online rival AnEsonGib, ex-NBA player Nate Robinson, 38, and retired UFC welterweight Ben Askren, 38.
      Meanwhile Silva was released by the UFC in 2020 following five losses in six bouts, three of which were on the spin.
      But he has made a successful transition to boxing, having already had a 1-1 record in the ring.

      Silva beat former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, 36, in June 2021 then knocked out ex-UFC champ Tito Ortiz, 47, in September and he will now become Paul’s first opponent with a recognised boxing record.
      The Problem Child admitted at a press conference to promote the fight last night that he grew up idolising Silva.
      He even posed for pictures with his brother Logan and Silva, and one with his upcoming opponent’s mother.
      But he still insists that the bout will not last longer than five rounds as he is going to “respectfully” knock out his idol.
      He said: “Anderson Silva is the nicest guy in the world and we love him. If my opponent is a d***head, I’m gonna treat him like a d***head and beat his f***ing ass, and I think people have seen that side of me. But I respect this man.
      “I’m still gonna knock him out, but respectfully knock him out. It won’t go more than five.” More

      McGregor started well, winning some of the opening rounds before the exhausted ring novice was picked apart by Mayweather, who barely shed a sweat until the finish.
      Mayweather – who claimed he only did push ups and sit ups as training for the fight – is adamant he could have ended the bout whenever he pleased.
      But with the possibility of a lucrative rematch taking place afterwards, the multi-millionaire decided to keep the fight competitive.
      He told Drink Champs: “I took it serious, but I wanted to have some fun in the fight and I wanted to entertain the people.
      “You have to give the people a show, so I gave the people a show.
      “If I wanted to go out there and f*** him up and blaze him right out the gate, I could’ve did that. But my thing is this, if I would’ve did that, then it wouldn’t be probably a part two.”
      After Mayweather’s Las Vegas win, he returned a year later in an exhibition bout against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo.

      He is now set to return to Japan later this month to fight MMA fighter Mikaru Asakura.
      He told FightHype: “I got three more exhibitions this year [2022], could be one fight and two exhibitions.
      “But guess what, you better know it’s at least and this is the lowest I’m talking about $200million.”

      Fury will take 60 per cent of what is expected to be the biggest purse in the history of British boxing.
      The Principality Stadium in Cardiff is the likely venue for the proposed December 3 fight.
      And in another major boost towards getting the Battle of Britain clash confirmed, the WBC placed Joshua at No6 in their rankings making him eligible to face his 34-year-old rival.
      The Mexican sanctioning body have always blanked AJ as he had never fought for any of their heavyweight titles and was the WBA, IBF and WBO boss twice.

      WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman says Joshua has gone straight into their top ten based on merit.
      Joshua also doesn’t have any commitments to other organisations since losing his heavyweight titles to Oleksandr Usyk.
      Speaking to Sky Sports, Sulaiman said: “Joshua entered the rankings [on] his merits and since he does not have any commitment for another organisation.”
      Sulaiman continued: “He was not ranked before because he was champion of other organisations and then he was signed to fight for other organisations.”

      And when asked if Joshua is in good standing to challenge Fury, Sulaiman responded: “Yes, he is.”
      There are also no current mandatory obligations for the WBC title that would stop Fury from meeting Joshua.
      Fury’s last fight, against Dillian White in April at Wembley Stadium, was a mandatory defence.
      A new mandatory challenger for the WBC belt won’t be determined until November at the earliest at the WBC’s convention in Acapulco.
      Fights have been, and will continue to be, taking place ahead of November’s meeting.
      Andy Ruiz Jr could find himself in good standing for the eliminators after beating Luis Ortiz.
      Former dominant WBC champion Deontay Wilder also has an upcoming fight against Robert Helenius in October.
      Wilder, of course, drew once and lost twice to Fury in a thrilling trilogy that ended late last year – with the door open for a FOURTH fight.

      Mayweather, 45, has been involved in three mega-money exhibitions in the ring since to continue boosting his bank balance.
      The first was in 2018 against featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Tokyo which was promoted by RIZIN.
      He marked his return by wiping out Nasukawa, 23, in one round of their mismatch.
      Mayweather then faced YouTuber Logan Paul, 27, in June 2021 and gave away TWO STONE in the spectacle fight.

      It went the full eight-round distance as Paul technically avoided defeat.
      Mayweather’s most recent cameo in the ring came in May against former sparring partner Don Moore and he is now due to face Japanese MMA star Mikuru Asakura on September 25.
      However, The Mirror claims that the American is looking “to add another social media sensation to his list by facing influencer Deji” in Dubai later this year. 
      The report states that he will announce the fight with the Brit shortly after his bout with Asakura.

      The Londoner, who shot to fame as the younger brother of chart-topping rapper KSI, had lost his previous three bouts.

      Taking to Twitter to give his prediction, Lovejoy said: “I’m not even a fan of AJ.
      “But I got him beating Fury, let’s not forget Fury got dropped by (Deontay) Wilder. I also knocked Fury out the ring before.”

      Lovejoy boasts a 20-1 professional record – although his defeat was a humbling second round loss at the hands of Mahmoud Charr last year – while his wins have come against fighters with losing records.
      Giving his version of what went on with Lovejoy, Fury told iFL TV in 2019: “What happened was, there was this big fella, six-foot-five, 20 stone, 18-0, he was highly rated by the WBA.
      “And he was saying all over Las Vegas, all in the heavyweight gyms, ‘I’m going to knock Tyson Fury out. He’s a bum, he’s this, he’s that.’
      “So one of the trainers at the gym said, ‘Oh Tyson, there’s this guy who said he’s gonna knock you out.’ I said, ‘Are you going to knock me out, are you?’

      “He sort of flapped it, didn’t know how to take it. But he left and he came back tomorrow. My cousin said, ‘I want you to drop him with a straight left hand in the first round.’
      “I said, ‘You got it.’ He comes running at me, I just went slip, boom and down he went. All 20 stone of him on the floor.”

      Joshua expects to have a contract to fight Fury in the next couple of days.
      Promoter Eddie Hearn held talks with Frank Warren’s son George last week – conceding a take it or leave it 60-40 financial split on AJ’s instruction.
      A source close to the Gypsy King told SunSport: “Tyson wants to leave win and win in style.
