Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua backed to ‘shatter all PPV records’ and overshadow any ‘World Cup glory’ for England

TYSON FURY and Anthony Joshua have been backed to “shatter all pay-per-view records” and overshadow any “World Cup glory” in the process. The heavyweight pair are in the closing stages of tying up a shock deal to fight on December 3 at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

Promoter Frank Warren, who has sent a contract to AJ, believes it will sell 2million PPVs, breaking the UK record currently set at 1.5m.
And depending on how England fare in their World Cup group stage, they could play on the same weekend as the proposed Battle of Britain.
Warren told the Daily Star: “For years we’ve wanted this to happen and we were close before but now seems to be the time it will finally happen.
“What a treat for British fight fans that it will take place on these shores, too.

“They deserve it for supporting Tyson – and Joshua for that matter – for years and we hope once it is all signed and sealed as many as possible can get their hands on tickets.
“It will shatter all pay-per-view records and will be one of the sporting occasions of the year.
“That’s saying something considering England will also be out in Qatar at the same time going for World Cup glory.
“But we believe this fight will be just as big as that and the whole of the UK will stop to watch it.

“In fact, I think it will capture the imagination of the world too.”
England kick off their World Cup campaign on November 21 in an opening day match against Iran.
If Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions finish as runners-up in their group, they will play at 3pm UK time, just hours before Fury and AJ’s ringwalk.
But if England top the table, they will play a day later, creating an almighty sporting weekend for fans.
Joshua, 32, looked set for a comeback trail following back-to-back losses to Olekandr Usyk, 35, most recently in Saudi Arabia last month.

🥊 When will Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua take place? All you need to know on blockbuster bout
And Usyk ruled himself out of action until next year after returning to his war-torn home of Ukraine after months away in training.
That meant hope of Fury, 34, unifying the titles were put on ice and ultimately led to AJ being handed a shock WBC title shot.
Joshua has since conceded terms to a 60/40 split, and Warren claimed paperwork has now been sent his way.
He said: “The contracts have been sent to Anthony Joshua’s team. They will have arrived on Friday morning.
“Now we wait for them to go through them and sign so we can get one of British boxing’s biggest events on.
“Since the passing of the Queen, Tyson has been respectful and kept his counsel while we work on the deal behind the scenes.

“The next step was sending over the contracts which we promised Joshua would arrive soon.

And according to No Smoke Boxing, Fury and Woodley are being lined up for a spot on the Middle East undercard.
It is claimed discussions are progressing for a catchweight clash in the region of 185lb.
Woodley, 40, has lost his only two boxing bouts since leaving the UFC with both coming against Jake Paul, 25.
The first was over eight rounds in August 2021 before Woodley replaced an injured Fury, 23, four months later but lost the rematch by KO.

Woodley weighed 190lb for both the defeats, while Fury scaled 176lb for his last win, against Daniel Bocianski, 27, in April.
The 2019 Love Islander pulled out of facing Paul firstly after breaking a rib in training.
They rescheduled for August 6 at New York’s famed Madison Square Garden but Fury was withdrawn amid a US visa issue.
Talk to fight Woodley follow after the news Mayweather, 45, had lined up KSI’s brother Deji, 25, as his next opponent.

The former gamer went on a run of three losses in the ring but secured his first win in August, beating online rival Fousey, 32.
Mayweather meanwhile officially retired in August 2017 after beating ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 34, in ten Las Vegas rounds.
But he has returned to the ring in three exhibitions since and faces MMA fighter Mikuru Asakura, 29, next on September 25 in Japan.
He first came back to the ring in Tokyo in 2018, beating featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, 24, in one farcical round.
Then in June 2021 he went the eight-round distance with YouTuber Logan Paul, 27, giving away TWO STONE in doing so.
And most recently, Mayweather dominated former sparring partner Don Moore in Abu Dhabi.
It was the first fight under his Global Titans Fight Series with Deji expected to be the second opponent under his new banner.

“I don’t anticipate there will be any problems. We all want this fight to happen.”
Both heavyweight stars found themselves in this position last August having agreed an undisputed super-fight in Saudi Arabia.
But Fury, 34, was ordered by a US arbitrator into a trilogy bout with Deontay Wilder, 36, which he won in round 11.
Although by then unification hopes with Joshua, 32, had collapsed following a points loss to Oleksandr Usyk, 35.

The pair rematched in Saudi Arabia last month with Usyk again emerging victorious on the cards.
Fury called to fight the Ukrainian for all four belts but the pound-for-pound star has ruled himself out until next year.
That caused the unpredictable Gypsy King to turn his attention to beaten-and-bruised AJ.
And perhaps willing to try and call a potential bluff, Joshua conceded terms to a 60/40 split.
Fury, seemingly not playing around, then ordered his team to make the unlikely deal a reality, with the fight now closer than ever.
Warren said: “The WBC title will be on the line but this will be as much about the bragging rights between the pair.
“For years we’ve wanted this to happen and we were close before but now seems to be the time it will finally happen.”

The Mexican and Kazakhstan warriors were once friends but are now fierce enemies – although they kept a lid on their bad blood and remained tight-lipped when they came face-to-face at the pre-fight press conference on Thursday.
However, the verbal shots did start as the pair took to the scales last night.
Middleweight champion Triple G, whose belts are not on the line, is stepping up to super middleweight for the first time and weighed in at 167.8lbs.
His foe, who had a huge following in Las Vegas as his legion of fans packed into the plaza in front of the T-Mobile in the red-hot sun to celebrate Mexican Independence weekend, came in lighter at 167.4lbs.

The crowd produced a huge roar and ovation as Mariachi bands played while Canelo was led to the stage by LatinAmerican rappers.
Golovkin was met with jeers as he saluted their patriotic day before throwing out a reference to the controversial score cards from their first two fights – which ended in a draw and a Canelo win.
He said: “Come on. If you’re real boxing fans you know who won those fights.”
Canelo hit back, saying: “He will see what happens in the ring. My aim is to knock him out.”

🥊Canelo vs GGG 3: Start time, TV channel, live stream and undercard for Saturday’s huge fight
The first fight between them in 2017 ended in a draw before Canelo controversially won the second by a majority-decision.
The 40-year-old Golovkin’s titles are not on the line as he steps up to super-middleweight for the first time – although Canelo’s undisputed championship crown in the division is up for grabs.
Canelo’s trainer Eddy Reynoso believes that Golovkin will not be ready for his ever-improving 32-year-old superstar.
He said: “Canelo is better at everything since the last time he fought Triple G.
“I’m not being funny. He has improved with his conditioning, with his technique, with his toughness.
“He has more ways to beat you, and I’m not going to say what they are, but Triple G is probably not going to be ready for some of them.”

The pair began their rivalry in 2017 when their first fight ended in a contentious split draw, with most spectators believing Golovkin to be the worthy winner.
And they had a rematch, which Alvarez won by majority decision, a year later.
That fight was also a close one, and since then, Alvarez has moved up a weight class and since become undisputed champion at super-middleweight.
Golovkin, meanwhile, has unified the titles at middleweight again, but he’ll finally get a third crack at Alvarez later this year, albeit at 40 years old.
He’ll be buoyed by the fact, however, that his Mexican foe just lost to light-heavyweight Dmitry Bivol, and will have to come back down for a huge fight with ‘GGG’.

Had he been the away fighter it is highly likely he would have been stopped on his feet inside the first three minutes after taking a beating.
To his immense credit the super-feather somehow rallied in the second.
But he was dropped violently in the third – after losing his gumshield – and should have been saved by his corner or ref Chas Coakley, when he barely made it to his feet by the count of nine.
Mairena’s trainer made it utterly clear to the referee that the one-sided battering should be stopped but he was ignored.

In the interval before the fourth round, Arnold’s head was bowed and he looked in no fit state to continue.
But his corner sent him out again in the hope he could save his skin with an unlikely KO.
Instead the ruthless Nicaraguan veteran of almost 50 fights unloaded another skull-shuddering blow and sent Arnold worryingly to the canvas.
The knockdown thankfully happened in Mairena’s red corner where the rapid-acting medical staff were sat close by and they leaped into action with an oxygen mask.

Fans feared the worst and a stretcher was rushed out to take Arnold away to hospital.
The staff outside of the ring did a far better job than the people involved inside it, charged firstly with protecting the boxers.
Concerned ringside staff even began dismantling the rings cornerpost in case the they needed a clearer path out of squared circle.
Thankfully there was a York Hall roar when Arnold – a 10 fight novice – regained consciousness.
Slowly the Londoner made it up to a chair and eventually his feet.
Groggily Arnold made his own way out of the ring and was taken to hospital for the standard checks and precautions.
Fans watching the fight were left outraged that it wasn’t stopped earlier.
One wrote on Twitter: “Never, ever in a million years should have still be allowed to continue to be able to take that last KO shot. Should have been stopped. Ref is a shambles.”
Another said: “Shocking on behalf of both referee and coaching team.”
And a third wrote: “F*** me, thought the worst there, thank Christ he got up… awful viewing.”
