Conor Benn’s coach reveals why he wants welterweight star to weigh UNDER 157lb catchweight for Chris Eubank Jr fight

CONOR BENN will be instructed to weigh UNDER the 157lb catchweight agreement for his super-fight with Chris Eubank Jr. Benn and Eubank are set for a DAZN pay-per-view blockbuster on October 8 at the O2 Arena, almost 30 years after their dads’ famous rematch.

Due to their size disparity, the born rivals have agreed to meet between weights.
Eubank Jr, 32, will come down from the 160lb middleweight division, while Benn, 25, jumps up 10lb from his usual welterweight limit.
But his coach Tony Sims revealed he wants the unbeaten contender to actually hit the scales 2lb shy of the catchweight maximum.
Sims told SunSport: “You’d like to have done it at 154 in an ideal world but there’s no such thing as an ideal world.

“Eubank’s people came to us with 157, and when I summarised it, he’s got to get down to 157.
“But that only evens it up as Conor’s got to go up to 157. He probably won’t even go up to 157 on the weigh in, he’ll probably be 155.
“So the fight evens out a little bit like that.”
Eubank, who has campaigned as high as 168lb at super-middleweight, will use every last ounce at his disposal.

But Sims wants Benn to focus on his lightning speed and movement.
He said: “I think at 155, his speed and his agility will come into play, especially in this fight.
“I want him to be bang on the money and I feel if he comes in too heavy then it will slow him down a little bit.
“So 155 I feel is a good weight for him. He’s still got to work to get down to 155 as well, he’s probably weighing 170 right now anyway.”
The fighting sons will renew the family feud almost three decades after their dads’ 1993 rematch.
Eubank had won a brutal affair three years earlier but the rematch ended in a controversial draw.
Sims was a sparring partner and close friend of Benn’s at the time and the pair have remained close ever since.

He revealed: “Nigel’s been a friend to me for a long time since them days.
“Not just only training alongside each other, we used to go out clubbing with each other as well.
“He’s been a friend for a long time and he put me in charge of his son and I feel like I’ve done a good job looking after him.
“And if I didn’t feel Conor could win this fight, I wouldn’t be putting him in there.”
Sims insisted the time was right for Benn to fight Eubank Jr, who could be entering the backend of his career.
He said: “I don’t believe that Chris Eubank Jr is the fighter that he was four or five years ago.
“I just don’t think he is and I believe Conor’s coming into his prime within the next year or two, so I think it’s a good fight for him to take at this stage in his career.

“And financially, obviously it’s a hard fight to turn down.
“The British public want to see this fight and you wouldn’t want to see it right at the end of Chris Eubank Jr’s career.
“He’s approaching 33, so you wouldn’t want to see this right at the end of his career. I feel like this is the right time do this fight.”

KSI vs Swarmz: Latest YouTube fight that’s surrounded in controversy with two bouts in one night and ‘neo-Nazi’ tattoo

KSI returns to the ring tonight in a bid to prove he’s the ruler in the YouTube boxing space – but the event has not been without its twists and turns. The British social media, rap and prizefighting star faces TWO opponents on the night of his comeback, this Saturday.
KSI ahead of his boxing comebackCredit: Rex
KSI – real name Olajide Olayinka Williams Olatunji – last boxed in November 2019 against Logan Paul.
They had drawn in a white collar bout a year earlier and then raised eyebrows when Eddie Hearn turned them professional for their rematch.
KSI, 28, ran out a winner by scrappy split-decision after Paul, 27, hit him on the deck and got a two point dedication.
A lot has happened since then, for example KSI and Paul are now friends and even own an energy drink together called Prime.

And KSI took a break from boxing to focus on music, releasing two albums and headlining at Wembley.
This is all while Paul’s brother Jake went 5-0 as a boxer and emerged as the most accomplished celebrity fighter.
It also provided KSI’s main motivation for returning to boxing, eyeing a grudge match with his American nemesis.
He told talkSPORT: “Jake Paul – that’s the main goal, that’s the only reason I came back.”

KSI’s plan appears simple; return to boxing after three years out, brush off some cobwebs and return for a mega-fight with Jake.
And he was not short of rivals offering their services to welcome KSI back to the squared circle.
But, after such a long period out, and a blockbuster bout with Jake on the cards, picking his return fight was a delicate operation.
Initially, KSI was matched with Alex Wassabi, a bout which had legs and made sense.
Wassabi had beaten KSI’s brother Deji in March and he’s advised by Jake, creating a sellable narrative.
But disaster struck just weeks out from the DAZN pay-per-view as Wassabi withdrew, leaving KSI without an opponent.
What followed was an online back-and-forth between KSI and Jake, who had offered to step in on late notice.

Several insults later and KSI appeared to snub the deal and claimed he would fight his arch rival next year at Wembley.
The Brit then announced rapper Swarmz – who in 2020 he collaborated on a song with – would be his shock replacement opponent.
That was baring in mind Swarmz – real name Brandon Scott – has never laced up a pair of gloves.
Although he did once say on Instagram: “I’m going to smoke this guy – watch, I’m a mad man.”
Despite Swarmz’s promise, the backlash from fans was so intense KSI reacted by organising another opponent to fight on the same night.
He announced Bulgarian boxer Ivan Nikolov would fight him later on after Swarmz, an unprecedented move to say the least.
But Nikolov then had to be withdrawn after it emerged he had neo-Nazi tattoos, forcing KSI to even sack his matchmaker.
    Rapper Swarmz will fight KSI
Luis Alcarez Pineda will be KSI’s second opponent of the night
He said: “He’s a white supremacist Ivan isn’t my opponent anymore. He has been removed.
“The matchmaker also got fired for allowing this to happen in the first place. But yes, my new opponent is Luis Alcarez Pineda.”
So out with Nikolov and in with 2-5 Pineda, a Mexican who was in March beaten on points and made his debut at welterweight.
But Pineda will have to jump up in weight to fight KSI at 185lb, which is 10lb off the light-heavyweight limit.
KSI revealed he has spent the last three years training in secret under the guidance of the London Shootfighters team.
A glimpse at his open workout is evidence that his hand speed, punch technique and footwork has improved.
And KSI has also vowed to ditch his wild, erratic style for a more reformed and traditional form of boxing.

So all that has come before, leading up to his return fight, will be put into practise as KSI offers fans two fights for the price of one.
And it is the first step in his mission to overthrow Jake Paul at the top of the YouTube boxing hierarchy.

But the Ukrainian came roaring back in the very next stanza, regaining control and never looking back on his way to victory.
Garcia, 47, believes that Joshua could have won the fight, but that Usyk’s surge in round ten changed everything.
Speaking to IZQUIERDAZO, the American said: “During that ninth round, in the corner [we] were telling ourselves we had the fight.
    “Oleksandr Usyk came back stronger.

“I’ve even thought in these last few days that it was Joshua who mentally defeated himself.
“Joshua was mentally defeated since round ten or 11. Round ten was a big one for Usyk.
“That changed the whole fight, and mentally we were defeated.”
Garcia held onto hope that his man may produce a late knockout, but to no avail.

He added: “At that point, we were relying on a good shot or something like that, because Anthony is a hard puncher, and one shot can change a fight.
“That is what we were hoping for, one shot, because he was dominated at that point of the fight.”
AJ was pictured for the first time since his defeat on Friday, playing chess poolside with right-hand man JC Elite.
Joshua’s pal captioned the picture: “Rest, recover, regroup, we move and go again.”
While AJ licks his wounds, Usyk is set to progress to a mouthwatering unification bout with WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Fury’s second “retirement” announcement saw him vacate Ring Magazine’s heavyweight title – but the WBC opted to give him more time.
Their deadline for his decision was initially today, but this was extended to Friday September 2 following the tragic passing of Fury’s cousin Rico Burton.

WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman tweeted: “The @WBCBoxing acknowledging the tragedy which happened in the Fury family and in respect of their grief has decided to extend one week until Friday September 2 the official decision of @Tyson_Fury regarding his status as heavyweight.”
According to Sky Sports, Fury has already told his team to pass on the message to the WBC that he WILL fight again.

The Gypsy King is expected to target a huge heavyweight unification bout with Oleksandr Usyk.
Anthony Joshua’s conqueror admitted last weekend that Fury is the only fight that he craves.
And the 35-year-old’s promoter Alex Krassyuk has already revealed that the match up is “in the making”.
Fury’s promoter Frank Warren said: “Both fighters want it.

“It will be the biggest heavyweight fight in my time in boxing.”
Usyk is Ring Magazine’s No1 pound-for-pound fighter, overtaking Japanese bantamweight Naoya Inoue after his win over Joshua last weekend.
Fury recently claimed that he wants £500MILLION to fight Usyk.
He wrote on Instagram: “The world’s biggest fight has to be the world’s biggest money if I’m to put it all on the line vs some unknown foreigner.
“Boys, better get that half a billy. If not, keep that little mug.”

Jake Paul claims KSI will ‘NEVER’ fight him as he slams YouTube rival for ‘doing fans dirty’ ahead of ring comeback

JAKE PAUL claims rival KSI will “NEVER” face him inside the boxing ring ahead of the YouTuber’s comeback this weekend.KSI, 29, returns to the squared circle on Saturday for the first time since he outpointed Jake’s brother Logan in November 2019.

Incredibly, KSI will be fighting twice as he takes on rapper Swarmz before pitting his wits against Mexican professional Luis Alcaraz Pineda three hours later.
Both contests will be three-round affairs, but that hasn’t impressed YouTuber-turned-Boxer Paul, who boasts a 5-0 record in the paid ranks.

He blasted on Twitter: “This can’t be real? Each ‘fight’ is 3 rounds? And he gets a 3hr break in between! Hahahahaha.
“It’s way easier than one 6 round fight. KSI & Minions Boxing doing the fans dirty with this fake s***. Mislead after mislead.”

And that sparked a huge Twitter feud, with KSI responding: “Was wondering when you were gonna pipe up. You must be so sad and bored on your a***, having no event happening.
“Still fighting a pro boxer before you, and you had 3 year head start. Plus how you gonna talk when you ain’t fought 2 people in one night?”
To which Paul replied: “You are fighting a nice young man from Mexico in a 3 round exhibition. Be real. No such thing as a 3 round pro fight.”
KSI then clapped back by insisting that at least he is fighting in 2022, with Jake inactive since December following his knockout win over Tyron Woodley.

Paul later messaged: “What you (sic) doing isn’t fighting. It’s an exhibition against a nice young man and your mate you make music with.”
In a follow-up tweet, Jake then said: “KSI will never fight me. That is obvious and I’m ok with it.
“He is trying to hype his exhibition fights.”
Again KSI was quick to comment, as he stated: “When you see me KO both of them, we’ll see if it isn’t ‘fighting’.
“Jake, I get it, you’re mad rn. You’re afraid that my PPVs are about to sit on everything you’ve done in the past 3 years combined.”
Despite having not fought since late last year after a spate of late cancellations, Paul has repeatedly been called out, with Claressa Shields and Amandu Nunes up for the task of beating him. More

And he plans to make up for lost time by extraordinarily fighting TWICE in one night.
He is set to open the DAZN pay-per-view event at the O2 against rapper Swarmz, real name Brandon Scott, 25.
And then he will close the card against little-known Pineda, 23, who was only drafted in on late notice.
Pineda is 2-5 and made his professional debut in 2017, losing but then winning twice after.

Although his form of late has been poor, losing his last four with three coming by knockout.
KSI was initially due to fight Alex Wassabi, 32, the American who beat his brother Deji in March.

But Wassabi was withdrawn amid a concussion scare and later controversially replaced by musician Swarmz.
The backlash was so fierce, due to Swarmz’s inexperience, that KSI made the bold decision to recruit a second opponent.

That was meant to be Ivan Nikolov – although the Bulgarian was seen to be a white supremacist with neo-Nazi tattoos.
So KSI went back to the drawing board, replaced Nikolov with Pineda and the show goes on.
KSI’s comeback has been centred around building up to a grudge match with Jake Paul, 25, who is 5-0 as a prizefighter.
But Paul is yet to face a recognised boxer, something KSI is set to beat his arch rival to.
His manager Mams Taylor said: “I was like, ‘Bro, what if you fight a pro boxer before Jake Paul does’.”

Carl Frampton stuns viewers as he solves maths round on Countdown after BOTH contestants fail in Dictionary Corner stint

FORMER world champion boxer Carl Frampton stunned Countdown viewers by solving an incredibly tough maths round on the show. The 35-year-old, who hung up his gloves last year, was the celebrity guest alongside Susie Dent in dictionary corner for this week’s episodes of the Channel 4 programme.
Frampton won world titles in two weight classes and unified the super-bantamweight divisionCredit: PA:Press Association
It looked like he stunned himself by successfully getting the 698 target
Rachel Riley was left thoroughly impressed by Frampton’s maths skills
And the Northern Irishman stepped up to show his number skills when both contestants had failed to get the target.
    The task was to work out a way of reaching 698 using 75, 7, 8, 10, 4 and 2.

Frampton, a two-weight world champion in the ring, started by multiplying 75 by 10 to get 750.
He then multiplied the 8 and 7 together to make 56 and took that off the 750 – leaving him with 694.

The former fighter then simply added the four to reach the magical 698 without even using the 2.
He appeared to stun himself, everyone in the studio and even those watching from home by reaching the target.
And he received a round of applause for the superb effort.
But Frampton gave no indication that he was skilled at Countdown before the show aired.

Speaking to Belfast Live about how it went, he said: “It was a great experience.
“I’ve done things in TV studios before and there was no audience so maybe that helped, but it wasn’t nerve-wracking or anything, and the fact that I was confident I was going to be helped along made things a wee bit easier for me.
“It was a great day, you do five shows and get them all done in one day, so I’m looking forward to seeing what it actually comes out like and I feel like I didn’t let myself down!”
Revealing he does watch the show at home from time to time, he went on to add: “If I was in the house at that time I would have stuck it on [the TV] because I don’t mind doing wee things like that because I feel like the odd thing like that every now and again keeps your brain active, especially when you’re not doing much with it.
“I’m probably equally as bad [at numbers and letters] but I’d say I’m slightly better with numbers than with letters.” More
