Canelo was looking to win a world title at light-heavyweight for the second time after he beat WBO champion Sergey Kovalev in 2019.
But defeat meant he was unable to extend his 16-fight unbeaten run and failed to win Bivol’s WBA title.
Canelo looked significantly beefier in the photos he took while preparing in the gym.
He movde up from super-middleweight – where he beat Avni Yildirim, Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant last year.

And the seven extra pounds are clearly impacted his frame as he looked bigger during the contest.
Next up for Canelo is the highly anticipated third instalment of his trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin on September 17.
The pair fought to a controversial draw in 2017 – a contest many felt Golovkin won.
They then rematched the following year and Alvarez took the victory by majority decision.

Golovkin, 40, has won four fights since his loss to Alvarez, 32, and the Kazakh’s trainer Joel Diaz accusing Canelo of waiting for his man to get old.
Golovkin’s coach Diaz told Fight Hub TV: “We’ve already seen the first one and the second one.
“If you ask me personally what I think, and you want to hear it without filters, what for? It’s been four years already.

DEONTAY WILDER has claimed an undisputed heavyweight showdown with Anthony Joshua fell through because the Brit’s team were scared he’d lose the fight.A blockbuster unification fight between the pair was on the cards in 2018 when Wilder held the WBC title and Joshua owned the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.

The eagerly-anticipated grudge match, however, failed to come to fruition, with Wilder insisting Joshua’s team scuppered the fight in an attempt to protect him.
The Bronze Bomber said: “Boxing is a business and I’m here to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.
“I have no reason to lie in this gladiator sport but some people are choosing not to believe what I say when I tell the truth.
“Everybody picked me to beat Joshua and that’s the reason why they [Joshua’s team] didn’t want to make the fight before.

“That was the reason why they took me on a six-month rollercoaster because they did everything to avoid the fight.
“They did not want to fight.”
AJ’s promoter Eddie Hearn reached out to Wilder’s representatives last month to gauge their interest in the fight.
Wilder said: “Fast forward years and now we’re seeing it.

    “We’ll see because we ain’t b***********.
“I hate talking about those guys because they put a bad taste in my mouth every time.
“These promoters, managers and s*** like that get in the way of big fights happening because of their greed.”
Wilder, 36, snubbed a lucrative deal to face Joshua in order to rematch Tyson Fury following their controversial draw in December 2018.

In a fiery Twitter rant at The Gypsy King, the American said: “When that fight was a draw, I told you that I would give you a rematch.
“You know I was offered more money to fight Joshua than I was getting to fight you.
“Again being a man of my word, I fought you like I said I would.”

The Mexican-American was dropped in his win over Arreola, and there were concerns about his ideal fighting weight in the aftermath of the fight because of the knockdown.
Ortiz is widely-known for his two fights with Deontay Wilder, who won both fights by knockout.
But Cuban Ortiz gave Wilder an incredibly tough first fight, coming close to stopping the American, before winning every round in the rematch until a 7th-round stoppage.
And since that fight, Ortiz has won both his bouts, one against Alexander Flores and the other against former world champion Charles Martin, who the 43-year-old stopped in six rounds.

When is Ruiz Jr vs Ortiz?

The ring-walks will get underway from 4am BST on Monday, September 5 in the UK.

    What has been said?
Ruiz Jr: “God-willing we get this victory on September 4.
“Of course if [Deontay] Wilder comes out of retirement I’d love to fight him, we’ve gone through the same work with Al Haymon and that would be the fight to make.
“But if not, then we can go through Usyk or Anthony Joshua.
“We can try to make that Joshua trilogy fight that I always wanted, but first I need to focus on Luis Ortiz, a hard-hitting guy.
“This might not go the distance, but I’m prepared to go all 12 rounds.
“We’re going to get this victory no matter what on September 4.” More

McIntyre later accused Fury of stalking him on social media so it is possible they could finally come face to face in the ring at the Principality Stadium.
But it is believed Fury will not get physical as he wants to avoid injury ahead of a return to boxing.

With no constraints on who he can or can’t pit his wits against after losing his world titles, Hearn aims for Joshua to rebuild himself in a number of countries.
Joshua, 32, has fought just three times outside of the United Kingdom since turning professional in 2013.
He was knocked out by Andy Ruiz on US soil in June 2019, before winning back the WBA, WBO and IBF titles in Saudi Arabia six months later.
And after two successive fights in England, Joshua was then outpointed by Usyk earlier this month in the Gulf country.

Speaking on iFL TV, Hearn spoke of all the things that Joshua can do now that he no longer holds any world titles.
He said: “The amount of times we had mandatories put on us and not being able to make fights we wanted to make or the dates we wanted to make.
“And now that’s the most exciting thing about moving forward, now he can be in charge of his own career, his own destiny.
“We can fight who we want, where we want, when we want. Be as active as we want, whilst building up to get AJ a shot at the heavyweight title again.

“And that should be the most exciting thing for his career now, a chance to actually be active and build a schedule.
“I want to build a world tour. I want to see AJ fight in London, in Beijing, in Australia, in the Middle East, in America.
“And it’s going to be a lot of fun. I think he’s really going to fall in love with the sport again.”
Hearn was then pressed on who he would like Joshua to face soon, where he stated he would love a rematch with Dillian Whyte following their December 2015 epic.
AJ knocked out his British compatriot in the seventh round with a huge uppercut after being rocked by a left hook from the Body Snatcher earlier in the fight.
He remarked: “The fight that I want, the fight that he wants, is Dillian Whyte.
