Deontay Wilder wants to fight Anthony Joshua in Africa to find out who is new No1 in huge heavyweight showdown

DEONTAY WILDER has thrown down the gauntlet to Anthony Joshua by calling for a blockbuster showdown in Africa. Wilder, 36, is marking his boxing comeback with a fight against Robert Helenius this weekend a year on from his defeat to heavyweight champ Tyson Fury in Fury vs Wilder III.

And following the bout he wants to face off against Brit Joshua in “the motherland” Africa.
Wilder, who wants to reclaim his title as world champion, told BBC Sport: “I would love to do that fight in Africa.
“It’s still the number one fight in the world for everyone. Everywhere I go, people always talk about me versus Joshua. We both have roots from there.
“I think it would be an amazing place to have it, to go back home.

“To go back to the motherland. A continent full of our people. I can just see that being an amazing fight, win, lose or draw.
“I think we’ll get the respect and love from all the people over there.”
The Bronze Bomber has refused to rule out a fourth fight against Fury, whose own fight talks with Joshua broke down last month.
Oleskandr Usyk is also hopeful of throwing his hat in the ring in a bid to become the unified champion after beating Joshua twice in succession.

As it stands Usyk and Fury look set to throw down for a unified heavyweight title fight so long as Fury completes a hat-trick of wins when his trilogy against Derek Chisora happens on December 3.
But for Wilder to earn a clash with Fury, he would first need to beat former sparring partner Helenius and then Andy Ruiz Jr in a final eliminator.
Africa has played host to some of the most iconic fights in boxing history, such as “The Rumble in the Jungle” between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1974. More

    What has been said?
Slim said: “I feel good, I’m just grateful because honestly an incident like we had could have left me blind in my left eye, I’m just grateful that my eye is good and I get a chance to fight on a much bigger show on Misfits 1 which was the opportunity of a lifetime and I won by knockout.
“I don’t even have to do this fight, but this man is so obsessed with me, during the last fight he was following me around, riling me up and trying to get a reaction out of me.
“I kind of want to bury this, bury him even though he’s kind of already buried because nobody gives a f*** about him, he’s the most hated man on the internet.”
Ryan Taylor added: “I wouldn’t say we had any injuries, I messaged him to say ‘we had a little scuffle, it’s cool, let’s keep it moving’.
“He claims he was injured, this is the internet and we know him, he doesn’t have to live up to this persona.” More

The British boxer mainly signed promotional leaflets, shirts, boxing gloves and several other types of merchandise but there was also a bizarre request.
A student approached the 33-year-old and asked him to put his signature on his laptop.
But Eubank Jr wouldn’t deny him as he happily put pen to – err – plastic.
The fan was heard saying: “It’s my uni laptop, I need it. It’s precious. It’s even more valuable now, though.”

It’s not the first time, however, Eubank Jr agrees to hand out a bizarre autograph.
Last year Next Gen was stopped on the streets of Newcastle by a supporter who wanted him to sign his MICROWAVE and the star athlete wouldn’t deny him.
Eubank Jr was supposed to face Benn in a grudge match last week at The O2.
However, the match was postponed after the Destroyer’s failed drugs test – conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.

Conor Benn breaks silence after Chris Eubank Jr fight axe following positive drugs test and claims his innocence

CONOR BENN has warned his loudest critics to maintain their volume if he is cleared of his doping charge. The 26-year-old welterweight had his catchweight clash with Chris Eubank Jr cancelled on Saturday after it was revealed he had failed a VADA test.

Conor Benn shared a defiant statement on Instagram
While the British Boxing Board of Control and UK anti-doping investigate the traces of female fertility drug clomifene found in his system, Benn has kept a well-advised silence.
Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn, who was made aware of the adverse finding on September 23 but was still pushing for the October 8 fight to go ahead 48 hours out, has urged fans to give Benn and his team time and due process to clear his name.
But the undefeated son of British ring legend Nigel could not resist a social media comment on Wednesday, after it was reported he had failed a second test that would potentially threaten his career.
The father-of-one wrote on Instagram: “I hope the apology is as loud as the disrespect”.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
Hearn is in Australia promoting his latest DAZN broadcast Down Under and he is fighting the accusation that he tried to cover up the scandal and bully the BBBofC into sanctioning the fight.
He also wants one of the brightest stars in his stable to be afforded the chance to investigate the red flag.
Hearn has already dismissed suggestions that opening the VADA B-sample will help clear his man.
And SunSport understands the crux of Benn’s defence will be doubts over the credibility of the test, rather than a justifiable explanation of how the banned substance got in his system.

Hearn said: “It wasn’t kept from anyone, the commission was aware from the get-go and there is information about the testing and the amounts that will come to light.
“You will see from various bits of information that the opponent and the team were willing to move forward with the fight, having seen all of the information.
“We wanted an opportunity for Conor Benn to be heard and have a hearing, he never got that opportunity.
“The board decided not to sanction the fight, we respect that decision, we don’t necessarily think all of the process was right.”

‘I went there to shoot him’ – Deontay Wilder admits he originally intended to KILL internet troll over daughter’s abuse

DEONTAY WILDER admitted he originally intended to KILL the internet troll who abused his daughter online. The former heavyweight champion in 2014 travelled to a gym in Los Angeles to confront renowned troll Charlie Zelenoff.

Zelenoff, who signed a legal waiver assuring that he would not sue for any damages, had attacked Wilder’s daughter online.
And he was later battered around the gym by the Bronze Bomber, who a year later won the WBC world title.
Now eight years on, Wilder, 36, opened up about the incident and revealed he would have shot Zelenoff, had it not been for his cameraman.
He said on the Pivot Podcast: “I really went there to kill him, to shoot him to be honest.

“And the Devil got in me at one point of time because we were in some alleys and my voice changed, cuz was there with me, I brought cuz with me too.
“One point in time my whole demeanour about myself changed, I was like, ‘Come in this alley.’
“I knew what I was gonna do, even cuz will tell you. My whole demeanour, my face changed because I knew what my capabilities were.
“But I knew I couldn’t do it because my cameraman was one of my good friends and I had a vision of him snitching on us and I would’ve had to shoot him too.

“I told him, I said, ‘I couldn’t do it, because I would’ve had to shoot you too. Because I saw you telling on us.’
“And he started, ‘Oh no, D.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I’m serious. I would’ve had to shoot you too.'”
Zelenoff had made a name for himself by picking on strangers at gyms, before trying to fight them, even doing so with Floyd Mayweather’s dad.
But Wilder claimed in a 2014 interview with The Ring Magazine, that he only agreed to confront the troll after being racially attacked.
The American, who returns this weekend against Robert Helenius, was in LA to watch a fight when he taught Zelenoff a lesson.
Wilder said: “I really wanted to do more than what I did, but I’m at a point where I have opportunities and I’m blessed, man. I’m aware of that.
I really went there to kill him, to shoot him to be honest.Deontay Wilder on confronting his internet troll
“But, basically, this dude, man, he’s been harassing me and he’s been sending insulting messages to me where he was threatening me and went overboard.
But the only reason I went this far with it was that he went overboard. He threatened to murder me, and he called me the N-word.
“Then what took it over the top is that he said that he was going to duct tape my daughter’s mouth and when I was reading that, I was picturing that actually happening.
“One way that you can get to me is to talk about my kids in a manner like that. Then, it’s personal and I’m a different guy.
“There’s one part of Deontay Wilder who is the silly guy, the humble guy and the funny guy with a nice smile.
“But there is another part of me that I really don’t want people to see. That’s the part will come and get you.

It will be the American’s first fight since his brutal knockout defeat to Fury in their October 2021 trilogy classic.
The heavyweight rivals shared three fights in their series, firstly ending in a draw with Wilder losing the subsequent rematches.
And Fury, who was floored four times overall by the ex-WBC champion, opened up on Wilder’s famed power in a warning to Helenius.
He told ID Boxing: “I think that Helenius is a good fighter.

“I think that he’s No1-ranked with the WBA or he should be if he’s not.
“I think he did an eliminator with Adam Kownacki and I just think that Wilder is a monster puncher and as soon as he lands on Helenius he’s out.
“I’ve seen Gerald Washington knock Helenius out, and Wilder knocked him out, so.
“He didn’t do much good with Dillian Whyte, Helenius, couldn’t really hurt him and Wilder punches like five times harder than Whyte so, yeah, KO for sure.”

Underdog George Kambosos Jr slept in his GYM away from his family as he went ‘back to the dark’ for Devin Haney rematch

GEORGE KAMBOSOS JR went back to the darkness as an underdog ahead of his rematch with Devin Haney – by sleeping in his GYM. The lightweight rivals do battle on Sunday in Melbourne, only four months after Haney won the undisputed crown.

Kambosos, who became a star overnight last November after beating Teofimo Lopez, conceded the WBA, IBF and WBO belts.
So for his contracted rematch, he stayed away from wife Bec and their three young children in the comfort of his home.
Instead, the Australian slept on a mattress in his gym office upstairs after training, where he stationed himself for the past few months.
Kambosos, 29, told SunSport: “No distractions, that’s what I wanted. My gym is where I do my best work and that’s how I wanted it.
    READ MORE IN BOXING
“I’ve got a nice office upstairs, put the bed in there, got a TV just to study old-school fights and obviously the first fight between me and Haney.
“That’s all I need. I’m a fighter, I could’ve stayed in a fancy place, I could’ve stayed in my house but there were distractions for me.
“For me, staying at my gym, I put in the work, then go upstairs and relax, my mind is focussed on one thing, it’s on a warpath.”
Kambosos shot to fame after upsetting Lopez, 25, a year after the American stunned the great Vasiliy Lomachenko, 34, himself.

And in his first title defence, he welcomed Haney, 23, to the Marvel Stadium with over 40,000 in attendance.
But the task of promoting the bout to an entire nation was among Kambosos’ distractions throughout the summer.
He said: “It’s a lot of work. When you’re champion you’ve got a lot of commitments and you’re focussing on building your brand.
“I had a stadium to sell, Haney was not going to sell the stadium, I was the one that doubled up on everything.
“Ultimately, it took a lot out of me but no excuses, Haney won the first fight but that’s why it was a two-fight deal. There’s two parts to this story.
I know come this Sunday, me at my best, the way I am, the way I’ve prepared this time as the underdog, back in the dark, I will beat this guy. George Kambosos Jr
“You got me the first time, congratulations, you’re a good champion, total respect there but let’s see how you do it now when the kind of Ferocious turns up now without all of them distractions.”
Kambosos opted to exercise his right to an immediate rematch with Haney, opposed to cherry-picking opponents to guarantee himself a win.
He said: “The kind of fighter, the kind of competitor I am, I know my mistakes and what went wrong in preparation and the first camp, the kind of distractions I had.
“As a true competitor, I know come this Sunday, me at my best, the way I am, the way I’ve prepared this time as the underdog, back in the dark, I will beat this guy.
“I’m excited, after the loss I didn’t take it personal, I didn’t get too upset, it’s part of the game.

“Respect me that I fight the best, I didn’t take any tune-up fights.
“Again, why would I take a tune-up fight to try and get my rematch when it’s there on the table?
“I’m a true fighter and I will show that again this Sunday, I will do my talking in the ring.”
