But his own uncle Jeff was left stunned that Mayweather did not opt to face his brother, social media sensation, rapper and celebrity boxer KSI.
He told FightHype: “Any fight that Floyd’s in is big.
“But it’s funny because some guy reached out to me on social media and said, ‘You nephew’s fighting Deji.’
“I said, ‘I don’ think so.’ I mean, I was surprised to hear it because I didn’t think Deji was big enough.

“If you’re going to fight Deji, why not fight KSI instead? That makes more sense, that gives you a whole bunch more fans.
“KSI is like the Paul brothers, basically you’re getting one of the ultimate guys in YouTube.”
KSI, 29, trained with Jeff for his rematch win over Logan Paul, 27, in 2019 which came after they drew a year later.
The Londoner returned in August after three years out and beat rapper Swarmz, 25, and Mexican boxer Luis Alcaraz Pineda, 23, on the same night.

On the undercard, Deji, 25, beat American Fousey, 32, which followed on a run of THREE losses.
It has somehow put him in line to face Mayweather, 45, in the Middle East.
Jeff said: “I think Floyd will have to carry Deji for the fight to end with both guys standing on their feet.
“I think if Floyd really goes out there, he’ll be in trouble.”
Mayweather himself returns on the weekend in Japan in a three-round exhibition against MMA star Mikuru Asakura, 30.
It will be his fourth exhibition since retiring professionally in 2017 after beating ex-UFC champion Conor McGregor, 34.

It was in Tokyo in 2018 when the American first returned to the ring, a year after retiring as a professional following victory over Conor McGregor, 34.
Mayweather beat Tenshin Nasukawa, 24, in one round and went on to face YouTuber Logan Paul, 27, and ex-sparring partner Don Moore in further exhibition bouts.
Asakura, 30, is the latest man to welcome the Hall of Famer, 45, back to the ring.
The southpaw has 16 wins, three losses and one no-contest in MMA.

He has two victories on the spin, most recently in December against Yutaka Saito, 34, who was the first man to ever beat Asakura in RIZIN.
But away from the ring, he is a popular YouTuber, with almost 3 MILLION subscribers.
Asakura mixes training videos with daily vlogs and even pranks and unsurprisingly has documented the lead up to his fight with Mayweather.
Like the boxing icon, Asakura also has a love for cars, posing alongside a Bentley and Mercedes on his Instagram.

The former MMA champion is joined in the sport by his younger brother Kai, 28, arguably the bigger name in the Far East.
Kai even posed with Mayweather and RIZIN president Nobuyuki Sakakibara in May, fuelling rumours of a future fight.
But it is brother Mikuru who faces the self-proclaimed Best Ever, and vows to pull of the upset.
He said: “I’m an MMA fighter but, I’m going to use this opportunity, and I’m going to use him to raise my name and value internationally.

How Floyd Mayweather has raked in more than £110MILLION in three exhibition fights ahead of Mikuru Asakura bout

FLOYD MAYWEATHER has lived up to his “Money” nickname even into retirement. The boxing legend officially hung up his gloves as a professional in 2017 after beating UFC legend Conor McGregor, 34, in a farewell fight.

Although, it has since proven that money-spinning night in Las Vegas was not the last time fans saw Mayweather, 45, in the ring.
And they will not have to wait long to see another boxing cameo from the American, who faces MMA star Mikuru Asakura, 29, over the weekend.
Here, SunSport breaks down the amount Mayweather – who claims to have already made £1BILLION – earned through non-sanctioned bouts.
    Tenshin Nasukawa, December 2018
Mayweather first returned in a New Year’s Eve bout against Japanese kickboxing champion Nasukawa, 24, promoted by RIZIN.
But the bout only lasted one round as Nasukawa was floored a hat-trick of times before being stopped and left in tears.
Beforehand, Mayweather boasted of making $9m (£8m) for the spectacle, which only lasted 139 seconds.
He posted online: “What if I told you I was making $9,000,000 for 9 minutes of sparring in Tokyo, Japan — would you do the same if you were me? I like to call it a 9-minute walk thru.”

    Logan Paul, June 2021
Mayweather took his time but was back one again last summer, in perhaps his most daring pay-per-view of all time.
He faced YouTuber Logan Paul – who had only boxed twice but weighed TWO STONE more – in an eight-round exhibition.
And much to the surprise, Paul survived until the final bell in a bout which sold over 1m PPVs at $50, generating $50m (£44m).
Mayweather, who promoted the fight and takes a box office cut, claimed he also made $30m (£26.4m) on his short sponsors alone.
But he claimed before and after the fight that he was earning $100m (£88m) for what he dubbed a “legalised bank robbery”.

    Don Moore, May 2022
With Mayweather already claiming to have made nearly £100m through exhibitions, he took his business to the Middle East this year.
He was set to box ex-sparring partner Don Moore on a hotel HELIPAD in Dubai, although the death of the UAE President saw it axed.
Mayweather instead dominated Moore over eight rounds in Abu Dhabi a week later, in what was his latest fight to date.
Unusually, the Hall of Famer did not disclose his purse, but his coach Gerald Tucker said on Instagram it would at least $10m (£8.8m).

    Mikuru Asakura, September 2022
With his total income from exhibitions totalling almost £110m at this point, according to the man himself, Mayweather is in no mood to let up.
He faces Asakura over three rounds at the Saitama Super Arena, again promoted by RIZIN.
And Mayweather is also confirmed for ANOTHER exhibition on November 13, heading back to Dubai.
He is in talks with YouTuber Deji, commonly known KSI’s brother as well as a rematch with McGregor.

Since then, Mayweather has had three exhibition bouts, not officially sanctioned or affecting his historic 50-0 record.
SunSport first revealed talks for a blockbuster rematch with McGregor and how the rivals were negotiating the terms of a deal.
The amount of rounds and whether the fight would be an exhibition or not were among the sticking points in the potentially billion dollar deal.
And in an interview with the Daily Mail, Mayweather confirmed ongoing discussions with McGregor for a sequel next year.

And then in just two months time he heads back to the Middle East amid talks to face YouTubr Deji, 25, brother to KSI, 29.
Mayweather aimed a dig at McGregor, 34, and the Irishman’s punch power when explaining he decision to box in exhibitions.
He said: “I am not into fights where I am going to take any real punishment.
“So, guys like Conor McGregor and guys that don’t really hit hard such as YouTubers or UFC guys, I don’t really mind colliding with those kinds of individuals but nothing where I am going to put myself in a position where I am going to harm myself or hurt myself.”
Mayweather first returned in December 2018, beating featherweight kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa, 24, in one round.
He then faced YouTuber Logan Paul, 27, in June 2021 and was surprisingly taken the distance.
Mayweather’s most recent bout came against ex-sparring partner Don Moore, which he dominated over eight rounds.
We don’t know if it’s going to be an exhibition of a real fight. But there’s been talks of both. I would prefer an exhibition.Floyd Mayweather on rematching Conor McGregor
Talk of a rematch with McGregor has persisted ever since the pair sold 4.3MILLION pay-per-views and generated over £500m.
Although the Dubliner is yet to box again, despite failed talks with Manny Pacquiao, 43, in early 2021.
McGregor was allowed by the UFC to go out of his contract to face Mayweather.
The MMA organisation received a cut of the earnings and would need to grant the same permission again.
But UFC president Dana White recently spoke out against the rematch, seemingly making his stance clear.
White told GQ: “McGregor-Mayweather 2 is not supposed to happen. Should not happen. Hopefully won’t happen.”
McGregor has two fights left on his current UFC contract, meaning he would be free to fight Mayweather once his deal is up.
Although it remains to be seen whether a loophole could be explored that would allow the ex-UFC champion to box in an exhibition.

McGregor has not fought since July 2021, when he broke his leg in a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier, 33, losing in round one as a result.
