Generous Liverpool ace Robertson believed to have made huge food bank donation in Scotland


ANDY ROBERTSON is believed to be the big-hearted Scottish footballer behind a massive food bank donation, it has been claimed.

The Times say that a major donation to help keep six food banks in Glasgow and surrounding areas going has been received.

And they report that it is believed the Liverpool left-back, 26, was the mysterious philanthropist.

Glasgow NE Foodbank, near Celtic Park, the ground of Robertson’s first professional club, has provided more than 53,000 meals for locals amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a tweet, the foodbank said: “Thanks to the Scottish footballer who donated a large sum to the food banks, including us.

“Without the support of generous individuals we would struggle.”

It is believed that Champions League winner Robertson also helped out Glasgow SW Foodbank, Glasgow NW Foodbank, Glasgow SE Foodbank, Rutherglen & Cambuslang Foodbank and East Renfrewshire Foodbank.

Glasgow SW Foodbank, in Ibrox, tweeted: “It’s an amazing gift and we are so grateful.”

The Times add that Robertson is “extremely committed in his charity work but prefers not to publicise his activities”.

He recently also made a game-changing donation which will help keep a mental health and suicide prevention charity in business.

Back Onside, a Glasgow-based charity, said Robertson had donated an “extremely generous sum of money”.

Founder Libby Emerson said in a statement: “I would like to give a special mention to Liverpool football player and Scotland captain Andy Robertson who today donated an extremely generous amount of money.”
