According to The Telegraph, European chiefs are thinking of pushing their international tournament back to the end of the year.
That would allow time for the Premier League and the rest of the domestic competitions – as well as their very own Champions League and Europa League – to be completed when it is safe to resume matches.
On Friday, the FA, Premier League, EFL and WSL agreed to suspend all professional football in England for three weeks.
And with Fifa’s World Cup in 2022 taking place at a similar time in the year, the move back to December could be a possibility for Euro 2020 and shift the footballing calendar for the next few years.
Uefa are meeting on Tuesday with the 55 member associations to discuss the implications of coronavirus and work out how to rearrange the fixtures.
Another option could be to delay the tournament by 12 months.
There are no major men’s competitions scheduled for next summer, meaning a one-year postponement remains the most-feasible solution.
Games were due to be staged across Europe including in Italy, Spain and Denmark which have all seen major restrictions placed on travel due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Scrapping the tournament entirely would surely be a last resort but remains a possibility.
As revealed by The Sun, the London Marathon has been put back to October and the Grand National at Aintree is set to be postponed.
Elsewhere, the PGA Tour and the Masters have been put on hold, as have the tennis, Formula One, Six Nations and cricketing calendars, among others.
