Chelsea blow as Callum Hudson-Odoi suffers another hamstring injury setback but Pulisic ‘super close’ to return

CHELSEA have suffered an injury setback with Callum Hudson-Odoi sidelined by another hamstring injury.

The 19-year-old has struggled with injuries since breaking into the first team and Blues boss Frank Lampard confirmed the England star needs a scan.

Hudson-Odoi suffered the injury just after the winter break but aggravated it during training and is set for a longer spell out.

It is unclear how long the winger will be out for.

But there is good injury news for Lampard, who confirmed Christian Pulisic is “super close” to returning to the squad after picking up an abductor muscle injury at the beginning of January.

Pulisic wrote on Instagram: “Very thankful for your support, working so hard and super close to a return.”

The US international has shown glimpses of his potential since joining from Borussia Dortmund last summer but injuries have hampered his career at Stamford Bridge so far.

Willian is struggling to be fit for the clash against Everton after picking up an Achilles problem during the 2-0 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup on Tuesday.

N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic are also missing through injury and Jorginho is out through suspension in the Premier League and the Champions League.

Injuries have not helped Lampard’s side who have struggled for consistency, winning just three of their last nine games in all competitions.

Chelsea host an improved Everton side on Sunday as they aim to keep their place in the top four.

Manchester United and Wolves are just three points behind as the league enters the final ten games of the season.

Should Lampard and his players grab three points, they would cut the gap to third to just two points ahead of Leicester hosting Aston Villa on Monday night.

Chelsea’s home form has been a problem this season, losing eight games at Stamford Bridge in all competitions, and the visit of Everton will provide another tough test.
