Good Net Project and VNL take home top awards as FIVB continues winning streak in 2020
Paris, France, March 4, 2020 – The FIVB was once again celebrated for its innovative and creative projects in two very different fields, as the Good Net project and Volleyball Nations League (VNL) picked up a total of four awards at the 22nd edition of the TOP/COM Grand Prix Corporate Business 2020 Awards, including the Prix Spécial for Good Net’s impact on the environment.
The awards ceremony, held in Paris, France, recognises only the best and most engaging communications campaigns and projects. Each award is given after rigorous assessment by an independent jury, consisting of world-leading experts in marketing, communications and human resources.
The FIVB’s Good Net project was honoured above all other entries when it was awarded the Prix Spécial TOP/COM Grand Prix Iscom de la RSE, sponsored by the ISCOM Business School. As the ceremony’s top award, the Prix Spécial recognises incredible projects that have had a marked impact in advocating for social and environmental responsibility.
The Good Net Project also took gold in both the ‘Global Design’ and ‘External Event’ categories. This sustainability initiative, which was launched to remove ghost nets from the ocean and repurpose them into volleyball nets, demonstrated that it shows no signs of slowing down in its mission to protect the planet.
Ghost nets pose an extremely deadly and sustained threat to marine life and can remain in the water for centuries. The presence of these nets left in the oceans represents a threat to the entire planet’s ecosystem. Because of this, the FIVB felt it critical to use sport as a tool to take action and teamed up with marine conservation group the Ghost Fishing Foundation (Ghost Fishing) to launch Good Net.
The project was designed to raise global awareness of the issue and, since launching on Copacabana Beach in March 2019, Good Nets have appeared around the world at major events including the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Hamburg, Germany.

In addition, the VNL picked up silver in the “Visual Identity” category. This award is testament to the VNL’s unique branding, which was made in partnership with renowned branding agency Landor. The colours of the court and grid lines inspired the brand design, whilst state-of-the-art motion capture technology was used to reproduce the movement of a volleyball to create the competition’s distinctive ‘VNL’ logo.
“Both the Good Net Project and the VNL have meticulously endeavoured to develop their communications and branding in innovative ways, showcasing how the FIVB continues to develop our dynamic digital strategy into 2020,” FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça Fᵒ said.
“It is always a pleasure to see hard-work and dedication rewarded, and I am proud to lead a federation that is aiming to connect with volleyball and beach volleyball fans around the world, through its initiatives both on and off the court.”
