CRISTIANO RONALDO says his mum Dolores is “stable and recovering in hospital” following a stroke as he flew to Portugal to be by her bedside.
The Juventus superstar thanked friends and fans “for all your messages of support” after the mum-of-four, 65, was taken to Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital in her native Madeira early this morning.

Dolores had a blood clot removed from an artery while she remains in intensive care.
And Manchester United and Real Madrid legend Ronaldo tweeted tonight: “Thank you for all your messages of support for my mum.
“She is currently stable and recovering in hospital.
“Me and my family would like to thank the medical team looking after her, and kindly ask that we are all given some privacy at this time.”
FLEW IN FROM ITALY
And the hospital said Dolores’ “situation is proceeding as expected” but further developments would be kept private for her family.
They said in a statement: “We can confirm the admission of Dolores Aveiro in the early hours of March 3 with an ischemic stroke with a short evolution time.
“This enabled two vascular recanalization therapies to be carried out, one which was thrombolysis and another which was a thrombectomy.
“These therapies are contributing towards improving the prognosis. So far the evolution of the patient’s clinical situation is proceeding as expected“.
The hospital added: “It should be noted that a stroke, in its acute phase, always has a reserved prognosis.

“In compliance with general data protection regulation, we will not be able to provide any other type of information about this specific case and its evolution as this is a matter that is reserved for family members.
“All clinical information will be made known only and exclusively to the patient’s family, who may make it public or not as is their right.”
Ronaldo was due to arrive at the hospital earlier this evening after reportedly flying in from Italy.
He had been spotted in Madrid on Saturday for Real’s 2-0 El Clasico win over Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Juventus’ Serie A clash with Inter Milan was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
One local TV report this morning said the next 12 hours were “decisive” for Dolores after her “severe” stroke.
It cited a close friend of Ronaldo as saying he was considering travelling to Madeira to be with her.
Just two days ago, Dolores posted a selfie as she enjoyed a day out on her home island.
She looked happy and relaxed in the photo by a monument in Machico, a small city on Madeira’s east coast, which was the island’s first settlement.
