Fernando Muñoz will coach the Belgian national team
 

Brussels, Belgium, February 27, 2020 – The Belgian federation has confirmed 49-year-old Fernando Muñoz as the new head coach of the country’s men’s national volleyball team. His contract extends until 2024 with key goals including a strong performance for the Belgian team at the European Championships in 2021 and 2023 and qualification for the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship in 2022.

Muñoz led the Spanish team from 2011 to 2019. In that period his team won medals in the European League and earned consecutive qualifications for the European Championships. As a club coach, Muñoz has won both the Greek League and the Greek Cup (2018 and 2019).
 
Reacting to the appointment, Muñoz said: “For me it’s a great pride to have the opportunity to work with the Belgian Federation and the Red Dragons. I would like to thank  Mr. Jean-Paul De Buysscher and Mr .Koenraad Hoeyberghs for believing

in me and making this project together possible.

The targets in the short, middle and long term are very important, very motivating for each one of us. I’m eager to start and have the first contact with this fantastic group of players. I hope and wish that all our fans will enjoy our volleyball and achieving our goals.”

The first tournament for Muñoz as Belgian head coach will be the European Golden League at the end of May.
