According to GloboEsporte, the 36-year-old is locked in negotiations over a move to the Rio De Janeiro club to become their latest marquee signing.

Botafogo recently announced the arrival of Japan legend Keisuke Honda who was greeted to a hero’s welcome in Brazil.

It is believed that Toure’s deal could be finalised by either today or tomorrow if Botafogo can secure financial assistance from investors.

The former Manchester City man was reportedly earning £230,000-a-week during his peak at the Etihad while also earning a healthy wage in China.

Botafogo want to push ahead with a move after a committee labelled him as a “spectacular African legend.”

Toure is regarded as a legend at City and was a key player to their success last decade.

He won three league titles, an FA Cup and a League Cup over an eight-year spell at the Etihad.

The veteran then spent just three months at Olympiacos where he played twice before having his contract was terminated by mutual consent.
