De Vries was forced to retire from the race while Da Costa went on to finish second.

Da Costa said: “I had a couple of weird moments with Nyck De Vries. More like Nyck Debris.

“I was on Attack Mode and on Fan Boost and he still pushed me up to the wall and he broke so late and he took poor Robin out of the race.

“I feel really sorry for Robin.”

Frijns managed to continue but the huge set back led to him finishing out of the points in 12th.

De Vries refused to comment on the incident and wanted to look at the data before pointing the blame at himself or the car.

He said: “I don’t like to comment on it at the moment.

“I don’t want to blame anything and I don’t want to take the blame because at this point it felt very odd to me but we haven’t been able to analyse what happened yet.

“I am happy to take the blame if it was my mistake, I know that Antonio has another opinion but we will analyse what happened.”
