Tyson Fury vows to make Deontay Wilder quit on his stool despite doubts over his power to KO his rival

TYSON FURY insists he can floor Deontay Wilder and make him quit in their world title showdown next Saturday and anyone who doubts him is an ‘idiot’.

The 6ft 9in Gypsy King is far from renowned for his one-punch knockout power, unlike his venom-fisted American rival.

But he has made bullish rivals like Derek Chisora and Christian Hammer quit on their stools in previous fights.

Unified heavyweight king Anthony Joshua and ex-champ David Haye have dismissed his round-two KO predictions, but Fury has his own plan.

He roared: “I’m looking for a knock-out and that’s what I intend on getting.

“I’m hitting very hard in the gym. I’m 6ft 9ins, 19 stone, I can punch as hard as anyone when I let them go.

“Anyone who thinks Deontay Wilder cannot be knocked out is an idiot.

“This is heavyweight boxing and I’m going to prove on the 22nd how powerful I really am when he’s sitting on the seat of his pants and won’t get up because he’s quit.

“I’m going to make him quit, Deontay Wilder.”

Fury’s former trainer Ben Davison revealed last week that the new plan under new coach SugarHill Steward is a risky one he would not endorse.

But respected Davison fancies his friend to do the job in Las Vegas but his opinion on Fury’s lack of power appears to have cost him his job.

Fury said: “The bigger the risk, the bigger reward. I know this isn’t the strategy Ben would have taken, but that’s why Ben isn’t training me for this fight because I don’t need that strategy. I need the strategy I’ve got today.

“Ben’s right and everyone else is right, it’s very risky walking on to a puncher, but I’m not going to knock a puncher out by dancing round a ring for 12 rounds.

“What I did last time was fantastic and I won the fight, but it wasn’t good enough to get the victory, so it had to be changed.

“I wasn’t going to do the same thing again and lose again because that draw may as well be a loss.

“They took it away from me and gave me a big, old dirty mark on my record, a draw.

“I don’t want that again. I don’t want to go 12 rounds of making him miss and making pay and then not get the decision.

“I’ve got to knock this guy out, as simple as.”

Fury flew out to Sin City at the start of January, by the time he finishes he will have spent almost two months away from his wife and five children.

Since he has been away a fly-on-the-wall doc inside his home has shown him to be a dedicated father and he insists he will punish father-of-four Wilder for keeping him away from his kids.

Sundays are the worst day on the calendar for the recovering drink and drug abuser and he will have faced around nine of them before he is reunited with his loved ones in Morecambe.

“Every Sunday is a disaster”, he said. “I hate Sundays for some reason. It’s the only day I get off. I became a workaholic, a gym junkie, but I take Sundays off.

“It’s a slow, long day for me so I like to keep busy. I get through it on my own. I know Monday is around the corner.

“I put myself through this because I want to give myself the best chance of success.”

Wilder, 34, by contrast has been living at home with his wife and children, enjoying all of life’s creature comforts, the thought brings out a menacing side to the British family man.

Fury said: “Deontay Wilder is training at home with his family, sleeping at night with his wife and kids. He’s living at home in his lovely place looking over a lake.

“I’ve taken myself away to a hole in the desert, away from my family. I’ve not done anything I shouldn’t have, I’ve done everything correct.

“He is fighting a different animal. He’s at home in daddy mode talking to his kids every day and being all nicey nice with his wife. I haven’t.

“I’ve had to put myself through hell and back. It’s going to pay off on the night.”
