Joe Joyce turns to ex-coach Ismael Salas as he prepares for Daniel Dubois showdown

JOE JOYCE has reunited with former trainer Ismael Salas for his bid to halt the Daniel Dubois steam train.

The 34-year-old split from Surrey-based trainer Adam Booth last week and jetted out to Las Vegas for a month-long camp with the Cuban on Saturday.

The Juggernaut’s fans were concerned he was trying to gel with a new trainer so close to the April 11 clash.

But striking up the old partnership with Salas makes much more sense ahead of this make-or-break O2 fight.

The 2016 Olympic silver winner told SunSport: “For my first two fights I was in Vegas so I have gone full circle.

“I have a lot of respect for Adam and the team, I did some really good work with them, Adam is a great coach.

“But this is such a big fight, of such magnitude, I train better and get a better vibe from training in the sun, in America and Vegas.”

Joyce started his professional career in 2017 under Salas but they split in July 2018 when the padman took a job with the Qatar royal family in Doha.

The Putney powerhouse then worked with Abel Sanchez at his Big Bear gym in California, where he enjoyed three wins with the man who honed Gennady Golovkin’s sensational KO skills.

In April 2019 Joyce moved back to the UK to work with Booth but that partnership is now over after two wins and a return to the US.

Joyce will now do his strength and conditioning training at the UFC performance centre in Sin City, while sparring and training at the private gym of fellow Salas student Jorge Linares.

Ahead of the pay-per-view battle with the 22-year-old starlet, Joyce claimed fans will see the best of his talent now after he is dragged away from his creature comforts.

He said: “I was split when I was in Big Bear but I think being away from home suits me, I have too many home comforts at home.

“Waiting for a fight left me feeling a bit stale so I think taking myself away is a good move for me right now because I have to knuckle down and win this fight.

“I don’t see any of the fun in Vegas, it’s just training camps and I know I will get great sparring.”
