DELE ALLI could face a ban after an investigation was reportedly opened by the Football Association over a video where the Tottenham player is seen mocking the Coronavirus.
In the Snapchat clip, the midfielder filmed himself wearing a facemask in an airport lounge while a man of Asian appearance coughs nearby.
Dele Alli was accused of ‘racism’ after posting the clip
The England footballer filmed a man who appeared to be Asian
He posted the footage online with the caption: “Corona whatttttt, please listen with volume.”
The camera then pans around to the man before a bottle of hand sanitiser appears alongside the remark: “This virus gunna have to be quicker than that to catch me.”
Alli has since apologised for the incident.
And now Daily Mail report that the England international has been asked to explain the post to the FA.
Quickly taking the video down, Alli said that he “left himself and the club down” via Chinese social media site Weibo.
The 23-year-old stated: “It wasn’t funny and I realised that immediately and took it down. I let myself down and the club.
“It isn’t something that should be joked about. I’m sending all my love and all my thoughts and prayers to everyone in China.”
Some speculate that the FA may mirror the one-game ban and £50,000 fine dished out to Bernardo Silva following his public joke about Manchester City colleague Benjamin Mendy.
In comparing the defender to the mascot of Spanish brand Conguitos, Silva was found by the FA not to have made a “racist” offence but nonetheless found him guilty of misconduct.
The vast majority of the 910 Coronavirus deaths have occurred on mainland China with over 37,000 infected worldwide.
