FIVB welcomes host city applications for international age-group events
Lausanne, Switzerland, February 10, 2020 – The FIVB has now launched the bidding process for four upcoming age-specific events that are due to take place in 2021.
The competitions open to prospective host cities are the Girls’ U18 World Championship, the Boys’ U19 World Championship, the Women’s U20 World Championship and the Men’s U21 World Championship.
Each event is hosted every two years and has seen a number of Olympic and World Champions take part on their journey to becoming elite athletes. The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U18 World Championship was held in Egypt across two cities, Ismailia and Cairo, while the Boys’ U19 World Championship was staged in Africa, in Tunis and Radès, Tunisia. The 2019 Volleyball Women’s U20 World Championship was hosted by Aguascalientes City and León in Mexico, and the Men’s U21 World Championship took place in Riffa, Bahrain.
Expressions of interest in bidding for the organisation of the competition should be received by no later than April 30, 2020 and sent to bidding@fivb.com.
FIVB President Dr Ary Graça, said:
“Each event is an important step in the development of these athletes’ careers, on the way to ultimately representing their nation at the biggest events on the planet.
“Not only do these age-group events provide young athletes with opportunities to experience international competition, but it is also a chance for new and developing volleyball nations to host major FIVB events and grow the sport around the world.”
