The 20-year-old has been rumoured to be leaving Leverkusen for months and Jurgen Klopp has made him his number one transfer target this summer, according to the Express.

Havertz won a host of admirers last season, netting 17 goals and claiming three assists.

And with four goals and two assists to his name in this season’s Bundesliga, he has established himself as a key player in Leverkusen’s side.

Having had a fairly quiet January transfer window with Takumi Minamino and Joe Hardy the only additions, Liverpool will reportedly make a bid in the summer.

And it seems Havertz is open to the idea of a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to Marca before Christmas, Havertz said: “I think I’ve picked up enough international experience at Leverkusen.

“I know the rhythm of these international matches and I’m confident I can go abroad at any moment and play at clubs outside of Germany.

“For the moment I want to have a good season. Afterwards, we’ll see.”

If the Reds are to bring Havertz in, they will face competition from bitter rivals Man Utd who are also said to be “very interested” in the £80million man.

But if the deal for the German international fails, the Anfield side will reportedly move for their former playmaker Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian, 27, is currently on loan at Bayern Munich from Barcelona and could be available for just £77m despite the fact the Catalans paid a whopping £145m for him in 2018.

Having failed to hit the form that saw him land the mega move to the Nou Camp, Barca are now looking to get rid.
