Inter and AC Milan one step closer to new stadium after ‘positive and constructive’ meeting between Serie A giants

INTER and AC Milan have reportedly moved closer to a new stadium after a “positive and constructive” meeting between the Serie A giants.

Inter and AC have shared the iconic San Siro arena – which seats over 75,000 – since 1947.

But they revealed designs for a new 60,000-seater stadium in September, putting an end to speculation that the San Siro was set to be redeveloped.

It’s reckoned the project will cost a whopping £576million to build, taking around three years.

And Calcio Finanza claims club chiefs met at the San Siro on Friday for “positive and constructive” talks, moving the new stadium build a step further forward.

But despite Inter and AC’s eagerness to continue sharing a home ground, their league form couldn’t be more different.

Inter are six points off leaders Juventus with a game in hand.

Antonio Conte landed the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Diego Godin and Nicolo Barella to kick-start his reign last summer.

And the former Chelsea boss snapped up a number of Premier League aces including Christian Eriksen, Ashley Young and Victor Moses last month to further boost his chances of yet another Serie A title.

However, rivals AC are a massive 22 points behind Juventus and are instead competing with a number of other sides for the fourth and final Champions League spot.

They lost a number of big names in the January window including Suso, Krzysztof Piatek and Ricardo Rodriguez.

But they did manage to lure Zlatan Ibrahimovic back to the club.

Inter and AC will clash for the second time this season next Sunday.

Inter won the first fixture in September 2-0 thanks to strikes from Lukaku and Marcelo Brozovic.

And fans will be sure to make the most of the occasion knowing the San Siro will soon no longer host the world-famous fixture.
