Sander Berge ready to take Sheffield United to next level after sealing club-record £22m transfer

SANDER BERGE is ready to take Sheffield United to the next level after becoming the club’s record signing.

The Blades splashed out £22million on the Norwegian defensive midfielder from Genk, eclipsing the £20m they spent on Oli McBurnie last summer.

Berge, 21, had a number of suitors across Europe but he said there was only ever one club he wanted to join.

After signing a deal until 2024, Berge said: “It’s gone on for some time now but ever since I heard the interest and spoke with people here and the manager I felt this was the right thing.

“It’s always been a dream to play in the Premier League and hopefully we will do even better now.

‘ALREADY FEELS LIKE HOME’

“It’s only been one club for me and this is perfect.

“I felt the love since the first moment and it already feels like home.”

United first showed an interest in Berge last summer.

And Chris Wilder added: “He’s played 20 times for his country, he’s also played Champions League football.

“We’re delighted he has decided to come to Bramall Lane.

“He was a player we highlighted as someone who could come in and really improve us.

“This signing just shows how far we have come in a short space of time, that we are now attracting the likes of Sander to the football club. He fits the bill in so many ways.”
