Anthony Joshua in talks with Deontay Wilder over undisputed fight later this year after Tyson Fury rematch

ANTHONY JOSHUA has revealed negotiations have begun for a potential undisputed heavyweight clash against Deontay Wilder.

WBC champ Wilder will put his belt on the line when he rematches against Tyson Fury on February 22 in Las Vegas.

And while the pair already have a third fight in their agreement, Joshua believes he can “throw a curveball in there” and finally tie down Wilder for himself.

Whether it will indeed be an undisputed title fight remains to be seen as Fury could snatch the WBC strap next month.

It will also be reliant on the IBF and the WBO allowing their mandatories, Kubrat Pulev and Oleksandr Usyk respectively, to step aside for Joshua versus Wilder.

Joshua managed to win back his world titles with a wide-margin points win in his rematch against Andy Ruiz in December out in Saudi Arabia.

Wilder has a great right hand, I have a great left hand. It is a great boxing match

He exacted revenge for a shattering KO defeat to the Mexican just six months previous.

SunSport reported last week how AJ had also held discussions with Usyk’s team – but the Wilder scrap remains the ultimate objective.

And Joshua thinks he can get that in the bag BEFORE Wilder vs Fury III – despite years of wrangling over money for the fight to happen.

Speaking to Sky Sports the 30-year-old said: “We’ve had meetings. That same meeting with Usyk’s manager, afterwards we had another meeting to potentially put an offer in to solidify [a fight with Wilder] before they have even had their fight, and before I have my next fight.

“Everyone wants Wilder to win because [a fight with me] is what everyone wants to see.

“Wilder has a great right hand, I have a great left hand. It is a great boxing match.

“We had a meeting about that. It has great potential. I heard [Wilder and Fury] have a third fight lined up towards the end of the year but we have to throw a curveball in there.

“Something that gets Wilder’s attention providing he wins so that he thinks to himself: ‘Even though I have a rematch clause, I’ll see how I can manipulate my contract, get out of it, and fight for the undisputed championship’.”

The boxing world is desperate to see Joshua fight Wilder, but if Fury manages to depose the WBC champ next month it will set up a momentous Battle Of Britain fight for all the belts.
