Arsenal ratings: Torreira continues to thrive under Arteta but Spaniard must axe liability Xhaka after Sheff Utd draw

ARSENAL dropped points again after another average performance at home left Mikel Arteta with just one win in five.

Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring for the Gunners, before a late John Fleck effort snatched a point for Chris Wilder’s side.

BERND LENO – 6/10

Didn’t have much to do apart from pick the ball out of the net. Had a routine save down his throat towards the end.

He’s back to his solid best after a shocking error against Chelsea a few weeks ago. No problems in the goalkeeper position.

AINSLEY MAITLAND-NILES – 6

For someone being played out of position, it was another decent performance. Got up and down the right and helped Pepe.

He’d be better suited in a further forward position, but is a victim of his own success, with his versatility.

SHKODRAN MUSTAFI – 7

Comes under a lot of criticism, but this was one of his better matches with some lovely last-ditch defending at times.

He still might leave this month during the window, but this was as good parting effort if it was his last match at the Emirates.

DAVID LUIZ – 6

Average at best. Still look shaky at the back when he’s in the team. Not what Arsenal had hoped for when signing him.

The ex-Chelsea man has been better in recent weeks, and had his hands full with Ollie McBurnie up front.

BUKAYO SAKA – 6

Looking like a first-team regular every passing match. Going forward he’s brilliant and he has a wand of a left food.

The 18-year-old’s passing at times was sublime and his clever runs make for an exciting prospect for the future.

LUCAS TORREIRA – 8

Another excellent performance from the Uruguayan midfielder. Won every tackle and picked up every loose ball.

Has come into his own under Arteta after being frozen out under Emery. A bright spark on another disappointing day.

GRANIT XHAKA – 6

A liability at times, especially when taking unneeded risks. Gave the ball away in the second-half which almost cost his team.
Arteta hss to have a real, hard think about whether he is good enough for this team. In my eyes, he’s not up to the standards.

NICOLAS PEPE – 8

The best of Arsenal’s forward line, especially in the first-half when he gave the Sheffield United full-back a torrid time.
Needs to add that bit of end product and live up to his hefty transfer fee. Will take him time and showing promise in his first Premier League season.

MESUT OZIL – 6

Another quiet game for the German playmaker. Failed to take the game by the scruff of the neck when Arteta needed him most.
At £350,000-a-week, Arteta really should be getting more out of him. He fails to deliver time and time again. Not good enough.

GABRIEL MARTINELLI – 7

A natural finisher and someone who will more than likely be first choice at the Emirates from next season. A real poacher’s goal.
Had some other good opportunities, especially a volley in the first-half, but he seems to have a knack of getting in the right positions at the right times.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE – 7

Worked extremely hard by himself up front in the absence of Aubameyang. Didn’t quite have the end product, but proved his worth.
The problem is him getting in goalscoring positions, which is the department the Gunners are lacking in at present.
