The teen has been earning rave reviews for the Villarreal B team, with many predicting him to step up to the senior side this season.
It is his first season for the B team after moving up this summer from the U19s.
He has played four games so far this season and is a Spain U-19 international.
According to The Telegraph, Morante “has been tipped to eventually play for his country’s senior team” and City “have been monitoring his progress”.
SILVA’S SUCCESSOR?
Guardiola is on the hunt to find David Silva’s long-term successor with the Spaniard leaving the club this summer.
While Phil Foden is considered by many City fans to be the future, bagging the £6m-rated Morante would be seen as somewhat of a coup.
If Morante makes the switch to the Etihad, it could be one in one out.
According to reports, Joao Cancelo could be leaving to join Prem rivals Tottenham.
The Portuguese full-back, 25, only joined Pep Guardiola’s side from Juventus in the summer.
But six months later, he is already being linked with a move away as Jose Mourinho looks to lure his countryman to North London.
According to El Desmarque, Mourinho has personally spoken to Cancelo in an attempt to convince the right-back to join.
It is thought Cancelo is keen to get more minutes under his belt and would be open to the move.
