Liverpool preparing to smash transfer record for £107m Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz as they steal march on Man Utd

But according to Mundo Deportivo, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are front of the queue – and are ready to splash big bucks to land him.

Havertz won a host of admirers last season, netting 17 goals and claiming three assists.

This season hasn’t gone quite as well, he has scored just twice in 14 and bagged one assist.

But clearly Europe’s top clubs still see something special in the German.

Liverpool’s current record signing is Virgil van Dijk, the Reds shelling out £75m to bring him in from Southampton in Jnauary 2018.

He has gone on to become arguably the world’s best defender, finishing as runner up to Lionel Messi in the 2019 Balon d’Or.

If Havertz can get anywhere near that level under Klopp, it could be money well spent by the champions-in-waiting.

SunSport reported how Manchester United reportedly switched their priority signing from Havertz to Bruno Fernandes this transfer window.

And his transfer from Sporting to United could be completed by the end of this week.

He has notched 15 times and provided 13 assists already in just 25 appearances.
