Tottenham looking at Fernando Llorente and Ze Luis after pulling out of £28m transfer for AC Milan star Piatek

TOTTENHAM have widened their search for a new striker with a move for Krzysztof Piatek falling down.

Spurs had targeted the Poland international after losing Harry Kane through injury and at one stage had been close to agreeing a £24million deal with AC Milan.

But the London club pulled back from the idea of committing themselves to a permanent transfer and sought to discover if a loan move could happen.

That has fallen on deaf ears and now any chance of Piatek arriving at Spurs during the transfer window look over.

Instead, Spurs have started scouring the market to see if there is any other suitable player who would be available this month to fill the void in the side left by Kane’s hamstring injury.

It appears that Daniel Levy prefers a loan deal rather than any permanent signing, which has limited the marketplace somewhat.

Agent Jorge Mendes has suggested he could be able to put together a deal for Porto forward Ze Luis, one of his clients.

But it appears the Cape Verde international would be unable to secure a work permit to play in the UK and Tottenham have started to consider other options.

One of those on the table is former striker Fernando Llorente, just six months after the left the club to join Napoli.

The Italians have indicated they might be willing to let the 34-year-old return to North London until the end of the season, although the initial offer was knocked back by Spurs.

But Jose Mourinho knows that is a banker that can be kept on the table until later in the window which could be revived if the club are unable to secure the services of anyone else.
