Chelsea, Man Utd and Tottenham transfer target Cavani available for £26m in January but Atletico favourites to land him

CHELSEA, Tottenham and Manchester United target Edinson Cavani is available for £26million this month but Atletico Madrid are leading the chase for the striker.

With Diego Simeone’s side operating at 100 per cent of their salary cap, Atletico want to sign the striker for just £8million later this month.

However, a deal is yet to be made for Los Rojiblancos as the the reigning Ligue 1 champions are holding out for £26m for the 32-year-old.

Negotiations however, are under way as Atletico CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi reportedly spent 30 minutes discussing the matter at a meeting in Paris on Tuesday.

Al-Khelaifi argued that Cavani would be a key member of their squad in the coming months, despite having little to show for his season so far, making just 10 appearances across all competitions.

Discussions between Atletico and PSG started in Paris as early as January 2 and it is clear both Atletico and Cavani want this deal to materialise.

Reluctant to sell their club’s all-time record goal scorer to a potential Champions League rival, PSG have be deliberating on the decision to release Cavani for quite some time.

In an attempt to speed up the process, Cavani is refusing to travel with the team until his situation is resolved.

As for Atletico, time is equally of the essence with the transfer window closing on January 31 and striker Diego Costa out of action until the end of February at the earliest.

With a deal not being reached, a move to London could still be on the cards.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United are among many of the Premier League clubs interested in Cavani.

With Jose Mourinho said to be concerned Harry Kane could be out for the rest of the season, Tottenham are looking to recruit a striker this month.

Whilst under-pressure Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told the Manchester United board they have to buy a new striker in this transfer window.

Having lost Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to Inter Milan in the summer and relying on just Marcus Rashford to provide goals, United need to reinforce their threat in front of goal.

As for Chelsea, Frank Lampard is in the market to strengthen his forward line. Cavani has what it takes to challenge Tammy Abraham for a starting position in the Blues side, scoring an incredible 198 goals in 291 games during his time at PSG.

However, rising interest from alternative clubs has said to have accelerated Atletico’s conversations the French club.

What can we expect? For the confirmation of a move to come down to the wire.
