Ruiz Jr still on holiday and yet to return to training after Anthony Joshua loss as coach admits they could split

ANDY RUIZ JR is still on holiday recovering from his loss to Anthony Joshua as his trainer admits they could part ways.

Ruiz, 30, scored the biggest upset since Mike Tyson was knocked out by Buster Douglas 30-years ago as he stunned Joshua in New York in June.

But six months later, and after putting on over a STONE, the chubby Mexican-American was outfoxed and outboxed in Saudi Arabia against AJ.

As Joshua enjoyed his rematch success with a Barbados holiday, it seems 20st Ruiz is doing the same.

His trainer Manny Robles told Sky Sports the heavyweight is reflecting on his defeat with a vacation, and does not even know whether they will ever be back in the gym together.

Robles said: “I don’t know. That’s for Andy to decide.

“I want to say it is still good. He has gone on vacation and everything seems to be fine.

“We’ll find out in the near future. At some point, we will speak.

“If and when he’s ready to come back to the gym, that’s when my job begins. My job is not to call him every day.

“He’s a man, not a kid, and must be treated as such. You can’t convince someone to want something.”

Ruiz admitted his time between the two world title fights was spent partying with his friends and enjoying too much food.

Despite his calls for a trilogy, fans were less than impressed, and Robles admits the meteoric rise in fame and bank balance was too much for the ex-champion to deal with.

He added: “The game and money has been overwhelming for Andy.

“He’s got to know how to handle it. Maybe after this defeat, the game has humbled him.

“Stay humbled or be humbled.”
