Ex-West Ham ace Reece Oxford set for VVV-Venlo loan just six months after joining Augsburg

REECE OXFORD is on the verge of joining struggling Dutch side VVV Venlo just six months after quitting West Ham to sign for Augsburg.

Oxford was being chased by Manchester United and Manchester City after making a stunning impact as a 16-year-old for the Hammers back in 2015.

Now he is set to make the move to Holland on loan until the end of the season.

The versatile Londoner, who can play in midfield or central defence, had been earmarked as one of the best English talents of his generation after producing a stunning display on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

But he has struggled to kick on since then despite making loan moves to the Bundesliga with Borussia Monchengladbach and Augsburg.

The 21-year-old impressed on a loan last season enough for Augsburg to take him on a permanent basis last summer.

However he has made just eight appearances this campaign.

Now he is being allowed to move on to VVV, third from bottom of the Eredevisie, on an initial loan.

That could include the option of a permanent deal in the summer.

Oxford believes he needs regular first team football to kick-start the development in his game which has stalled over the last few years.
