Chelsea and Man Utd send scouts to watch £40m transfer target Moussa Dembele score for Lyon on Wednesday

CHELSEA and Manchester United reportedly scouted Moussa Dembele as he scored for Lyon on Wednesday night.

The striker bagged the opener in a 3-1 win over Brest in the League Cup in front of representatives from the English giants, according to the Mail.

Dembele, 23, now has 13 goals this season after scoring 20 in the last campaign.

And the ex-Fulham and Celtic star could now be heading back to the Premier League as Chelsea and United prepare £40million bids.

Chelsea believe Dembele is the ideal man to challenge Tammy Abraham for a place in Frank Lampard’s starting XI.

Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi look certain to leave Stamford Bridge this month.

And Dembele could be keen on a return to West London before the winter transfer window shuts, with former Blues forward Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink urging all parties to get a deal done.

Meanwhile, United are also keen on securing the Frenchman’s coveted signature.

The Red Devils are lacking options in the final third after allowing Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to join Inter Milan last summer.

Dembele could thrive alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

But Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas insists Dembele will not be leaving this month.

That’s despite reports the Ligue 1 side are in talks with Real Madrid to re-sign Mariano Diaz on loan.

Aulas said: “Moussa will not leave. On one hand, he wants to stay with Lyon. It’s the best way for him to continue to improve his game.

“There have been offers for him and other players, but no one we want to keep will leave in January.”
